And the taxpayers get screwed again, SMH!

Oh our people can be so fooled!

so Kenny and the SLP can quote chapter and verse of what happened with these lands.

so why can we not find out the whole truth and nothing but the truth about Rochamel and Grynsberg ?

Why did it take 10 years and a inquiry to find out only part of the scampnishness behind Rochamel/

Why do we still not know and will not know because the SLP is in power what is happening with Grynsberg ?

Why did the leadership of the SLP enter into these secret agreements at the time and why did they not pay a price ?

So Saint Lucia is buying back and paying for land that it owned previously for which it did not receive one red cent?

Why the hell didn't the taxpayers send that idiot of a PM to school before electing him to parliament?

And they still have another country-bookie idiot in the House? Heaven help us! Sacre couyon!

NO problem. SLP started the ball rolling, the UWP picked it up, and SLP now blaming the UWP for a road they would have ended up walking anyway. You understand why the country can ill afford them fellas.

to anon..2nd..stop being a puppet of news and propaganda, all adminstrations go through ill advised deals whether deliberate or trying to do a noble viable transaction for the sake of their pockets and the country as well.. by bringing up rochamel/grynberg u just showing political colours.. instead of moving forward and dealing with current issues in this current recession...

I for one do not like the idea perhaps do not approve of buying back land worth so much and tax payers has to pay .. the only good thing that could come fromthat is basically the former - that a wealthy investor once again buys back those lands perhaps cheaper than the 58 million most likely and builds a hotel ..so it seems to me a lose -lose situation..just allow the market and investor confidence to return to st lucia and allow teh bank and potential investor to purchase it again..saving us 58 million. the GOV just have to work doubley hard to attract an investor and make this debacle an easy transaction land purchase which is now in the hands of foreign bank adminstrations etc..

when idiots are elected idiotic actions should be expected ...

The fundamental problem here is that too few of us know enough or are trained in Financial Management. The situation gets worse when we elect KNOWN IDIOTS and put them to head ministries where they don't know a fart about managing money. Then these idiots sign away the patrimony with style and damaging ignorance.

Why is St. Lucia paying for land that it owned but has now to buy it back?. Whereas it did not receive any money for the original transfer of ownership. That is the crap we have to swallow now. Who is this dumb-ass genius who started this in the first place?

Who writes and signs these half-ass agreements anyway?

Of course and damn it! It sounds like another Rochamel! Let's face it. The situation is not all that different. Ok, $45 million there and $48 million here. These complete big-headed idiots we have been electing to government have no blasted sense at all, at all, at all.

Exactly "big headed idiots'

and we have them all over the Caribbean providing jobs, perks adn pensions for themselves while they do nothing for our people.

All kind of UWI academics and politicians who supported CARICOM for thirty odd years not saying it it just full of career civil servant types drawing big salaries and pushing for jobs in the OAS or UN or other waste of time global entity.

These people are behaving like this is not real money they're dealing with. They throw around numbers, 58 million here, 40 million there like it's monopoly money. Just spending money and nothing to show for it. What a mess!!

Can anybody hear the toilet flushing? Down goes St Lucia's hopes and dreams.

No wonder youth clever enough to leave never come back. Incompetent yellow and red leadership, this is a downward spiral.

Happily we have the Troubetzkoys and the Barnards, they are the only people who keep this pitiful island going.

It is the kind of issues like this one that Dr. Vaughan Lewis failed to raise in his speech that made it so irrelevant to the real issues facing us as a nation.

From SLP to UWP and UWP back to SLP...what's next???

Stop the distraction kenny and tell us the truth. Tell us about the shaddy clico land deal you were involved in that cost so many stlucians their investment and tell us the truth about the black bay lands. Kenny you are such a wrinkling nincompoop. Wave your magic wand you idiot and let me see you solve the world problems you nutjob

It is issues like these that the half-ass lawyers on the constitution review commission would not raise. Those SOBs talked all the shit they could find and left the backside of the country exposed to idiots we call MPs.

We need a constitutional amendment that makes it illegal to sell lands bordering on the Queen's Chain or to use them as any form of collateral. Such lands must remain unsold or out of any risk of falling into the hands of foreigners for good in any business deal.

Love the land that gave you birth, but you are left with goat hills only. BSing politicians and political parties. Lord we have too many of them already!

Don't blame me. My sister and I voted LPM.

I cannot understand why there are so many jackasses in St. Lucian politics, who know so very little or sweet &^%$ all about how to spend the people's money.

St Lucia and its politicians are not the only ones to blame. What about these big-time investor-sharks? One of the main reasons they come to our little islands is to bleed us dry; so they make unfair deal using their big-time and often dishonest lawyers. They should also have to share some of the responsibilities and COSTS for these investment debacles! There's ALWAYS two sides to every story.

@ above. Don't try to sell us this stupid and ignorant victimhood. Open your eyes to the pattern of continuing stupidity on the part of our so-called smart MPs. They can only win votes and the hearts and minds of some very simple people.

I cannot believe that in the first place the land was acquired and given to the investor company without any exchange of money, just a promise of an insignificant amount of preferred shares? This is a travesty of justice. I would like someone to please explain to me if I got this story correct. Why are our people and the so called learned so dumb! Where are their negotiating skills? They are giving away our birthright for free! Rubbish!

Will one of those learned politicians explain? Please, I am a concerned St. Lucian.

OK if there is no other way to salvage those lands except to pay these huge sums then what about if the gov perhaps sell some of the land out there to service other national projects projected through the annual budgets

so if we do take a loan of $58 million we can at least piggy back on needed projects by putting up for sale goldmine land areas such as faux a chaux, vigie airport lands which are worth many millions ..vigie airport is a waste of time only 12 liat flights a day and a few private jets .. that place is worth tens of millions

if the gov sell portions that they will not need themselves.. boutique hotels can be built directly where the runway is away from the beach, modern conference centres, mall parks etc.. yes paying $58million makes my blood boil but these are different times..so we need innovative ways of keeping the country afloat ..lets put the much talked about VISION PLANS INTO PRESENT TIMES..

one last point ..the country is broke.. many ppl who should be paying property tax dont .. will we hear something about that in upcoming budgets on how to ensure these ppl pay their dues..that in itself is worth many millions into the treasury of our country..

ALSO.. many private citizens and locals rent out their property in terms of lands and especially additional homes they have .WHY CAN'T THE GOV DEMAND AT LEAST 5% OR 10% TAX FEE on those property rental amonts [ if a man rents his downstairs of 2 bedrooms for $400.00EC then the gov gets only $40.00 ]

in other so called democratic and wealthier nations at that would ensure that is done to acquire more financing to run their countries ..WE DO NOT KNOW AS A PPL WHAT IT MEANS TO PAY TAXES like Europe or Japan.. i have never heard of an IDEA like that coming from any NGO or HIGHLY PAID GOV CONSULTANTS.. HAVE U ..? i always say we lack as a country , INNOVATIONS & STANDARDS.. lets put innovative ideas of making some well needed money to help us keep economically afloat in these hard times .

VAT may not cover all the loopholes although it should create a better TAX NET from our stagnant economy..FOOD FOR THOUGHT
