Did you listen to the CSA's reps. as guests on RSL today? Sheldon really tried hard to corner them without success. He was so very defensive of the government's position. But, in my opinion, they presented the CSA's very well and they have my full support. The SLP Government must pay civil servants what they are demanding and no doubt deserve.
CSA: “9.5% or Nothing!”? Give it to them and put an additional 4.5% on the VAT to pay it? These people are on with the same old show, with 'ow' in the word 's-h-o-w' replaced with IT, but not your normal information technology.
I agree 9.5 percent is too much. But hey- to say they don't have the right to agitate and to call them all kinds of sick names is not called for. If the shoes were on the other side even Kenny would have been supporting Ms. Issac.
What is fair is fair. The problem is not Ms. Issac. The problem are the politicians.
I am happy somebody is finally standing up to Kenny and his communist arrogant ass. Don't give up and don't give in to the distractors you make st lucia proud. Finally. ....what happen to the men of this country??? They have no balls!!

The Commission of Inquiry found just that on the ROAD WORKS PROGRAM . It said in short; POOR MANAGEMENT OF THE FINANCES OF THOSE ROAD WORKS PROJECT.
Then we have GRENBERG. As I understand it; no one in the Cabinet of Ministers were even aware of that deal. Only KENNY ANTHONY NEGOTIATED. Now the Country is being sued by GRENBERG for MILLIONS.
Then; we had NATIONAL CONSERVATION AUTHORITY. MILLIONS of DOLLARS DISAPPEARED.
Then we had the HELENITES BUILDING in NEW-YORK; belonging to people of ST. Lucia; that changed OWNERSHIP. The story on this is still not known by many St. Lucians.
Then we have the CANNELLES FIASCO. Millions gone down the drain.
ETC. ETC. ETC.
STEPHENSON KING; also had his fair share of wastage in CONSULTANTS that are really not needed; in much the same way KENNY ANTHONY HAS HIRED EVEN MORE.
Kenny Anthony must now send these so-called CONSULTANTS home. They are doing NADA and adding no worth/no value to the country's situation.
They are merely doing the work that other staff in the Ministries are already being paid to do. The Permanent Secretaries and their Deputies; are being paid to provide;
ADVICE, TO THE GOVERNMENT ON ALL TECHNICAL MATTERS, AND ARE REQUIRED TO MANAGE AND ADMINISTER the Government Departments.
They are required to conduct the necessary research, to promulgate effective Policies, and to implement, manage, administer and provide oversight on the effectiveness of POLICIES. In fact; on all Government Policies.
So KENNY ANTHONY needs to STOP WASTING MONEY. Which is already very scarce.
The CIVIL SERVANTS KNOW AND SEE EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS WITHIN THE COFFERS OF GOVERNMENT. And everyone has a good friend; who has a good friend; who has a good friend....... so NOTHING is really a secret. Some Civil Servants may choose to keep things under wraps/secrets if they wish. But someone knows everything or something that truly goes on in Government.
And people are just pissed-off with what is going on. Because they see and they know. And the worst thing KENNY ANTHONY allowed was for Stephenson King to expose him with the rare truth about the civil servants who had not been paid in over twenty years.
As I see it; KENNY ANTHONY is incapable of leading the country and he should leave. The majority of St. Lucians do not like him; they don't trust him; they just want to see his back. Remember he won on a very slim line. And all that has been happening; where he made St. Lucians believe [falsely] that he would make a big difference; they have come to realize that he was PLAIN TELLING A BIG LIE. It was just not possible. So why should he have attempted to FOOL the people.
In the end it all comes back to hunt him. Now the only thing left; is for him to go. What a disappointment. What a disgrace.
This is not Mary "Carbuncle Face" Isaac. You idiot. She represents the MAJORITY of Civil Servants who know what is going on in Government. They see and witness what is going on everyday.
The CUSTOMS staff see much. They are going to CLOSE this Country DOWN. That is the only real remedy for POLITICIANS like KENNY ANTHONY.

In all seriousness and with all politics and personal demonising aside of the Prime Minister or Ms. Isaac, tell what do these civil servants do on a day to day basis to demand their high salaries when theirs in many instances are much higher than the private sector? they get to show up to work late, leave early, choose to serve the public when and how they please, they take days off when their kids are sick or on holidays or just to do their business without being on vacation. EVERYONE in St. Lucia is facing tough economic times and many do not have the level of steady income civil servants have. Many can't come to work when they want , take long lunch breaks, do little to nothing and then leave. How can they insist on 10% increase? by what standards?
Send them a little signal. Feeze all hiring today. ATTRITION has never been so useful.
You all better behave. It is possible that these people can criple the government. I would not try to beat down on them the way some of you all have. Read that statement above again, just in case you missed the point.
If you make your errors as an independent country and have to come to them for economic support, the prescriptions will be the same.
The decision makers have to understand the dynamics of their own economies. Look. In the recent past, Argentina was the poster child for IMF recommendations.
Their economy imploded following in lock step all the IMF prescriptions.
Perhaps the most bouyant economy in the world, that of the US does NOT Operate with a VAT.
It is the idots in the UWP who selected King who barely understands the fundamentals regarding demand and supply who supported the inevitabl increase in the domestic inflation rate with that last and large public sector salary increase.
The idiots in the SLP made someone who has no real understanding of complex financial matters to lose $45 million, the Black Bay joke for an investment and now has over $260 million in potential liabilities and legal fees for litigation of the Grenberg Affair.
Who the hell do you think pays the cost and the price of those avoidable mistakes? The prime ministers?
We have people who only know how to come to work and straighten out dogs ears with two-hour lunch breaks as an indicator of conscientiousness and productivity. None of them can fashion a program of economic recovery because they don't know how. They never learned even the basics at the university level. They only know what the same Civil Servants tell them.
Do you think that the civil servants are going to put them on track to hurt their own self-interests.
If you don't know the theories, and you don't know the theoretical assumptions behind the advice being given, then you will not ask the right questions. You may as well, as is often the case, base your judgement and decisions on the opinion of the last person, consultant, or confidant you spoke to.
Therefore, we are now paying the huge and painful price for our continued national acceptance of mediocrity and pathetically low-level prime ministerial leadership and management skills.

Those familiar with economic history know that correcting the economic mistakes of economic cretins, with other credentials and worse still, those without can be irksome and very painful and can stretch for as many as 50 years!
A change of leadership is necessary but not sufficient.

I think that the government should be looking for substitutes to re place those arrogant and nonproductive soon to be strickers. Like a previous blogger ask, Where in the world do anyone private or public get such an increase on wages? I would hope that the government, if it were to give in to their demands, would layoff a bunch of these nonessentials and increase the work load of the remainder to make up for the increase in wages. This is actually what is happening presently the world over even without any increases in wages. Those laidoff workers would find themselves without a job as there are none in the private sector, and I would gradually hire them back only if they would accept the 4% they had been offered. My guess is they would gladly accept. Who feels it knows it. Ask the 50% who have been unemployed all their lives. I plead to the government not to be held hostage. Find your way around them.

I specified that they are AWARE of the financial resources that were looted off the Treasury in more ways than one; and hence the reason why they will teach the Government a lesson or two and take them where they ever wanted to take them. For a long, long ride on the back of the IMF Tiger, with St. Lucia in the Tiger's belly; and a big, large GRIN on the tiger's face.

No one has mentioned the fact that the upcoming Budget 2013 should be especially interesting. Can we give credence to it when so many civil servants are in absentia during crunch time - whilst their proposed salary increases hang in the balance? Can we even trust the information provided by disgruntled or skeletal staff?
I hope the Finance Ministry, at the very least, remains fully staffed. Or can we expect an indefinite postponement of the Estimates of Expenditure?
Guesstimates of expenditure you say? These are never accurate anyway. To me, those figures are just window dressing.
In the day of computerization, the strike will most certainly show up the lack of productivity in the service. Show us where to cut, sweetheart.
The kind lady is doing us a very good deed. She needs a national service medal.
It does not matter now that Kenny may be a constant factor in ridiculous level of our national debt with no significant assets to show for it.

9am - Walks into office after dropping kids off at school.
- Chats with co-workers until 9:30am
10am - Leaves office in search of dahl or float and cheese.
- Returns 20 minutes later and munches for another 15 minutes.
12pm - Leaves office in search of lunch.
1:30pm - Returns to office (add a half-hour if immediate supervisor is on vacation.)
2:30pm - Leaves office to pick up kids from school.
3pm - Returns to office.
4pm - Calls it quits and packs up.
*Repeat daily for minimum results.*
Stop voting for half-ass country bookies to parliament. The first step in getting us out of this mess.

Head each one of those by a senior but trusted law enforcement person or reserve.
Move to automate all revenue collection as fast as possible and as far as practicable.
We the people will all have no other choice but to settle down in about THREE WEEKS TIME to adjust to 'the new norm'.
Extend the limited state of emergency to a further 90 DAYS, if more RAPID training is required.
It is a beaucracy that we are dealing with. Unless critical files are hidden or destroyed, the way to proceed is all there in those files for reference. The precedence is all there starting from the 1948 Castries fire.
Please don't have this country face the prospect of ever having to follow in the footsteps seemingly being led by Cyprus today.
