Public Service Rocked by ‘Sick’ Employees

I think I have a solution to the problem. If I were the goverment I woul give them the minimum they would accept and layoff a large quantity of them (the laybacks) to the extent it would not make a dent on the budget.

Problem with that idea is that most of them are so lazy and incompetent they would never get a job in the private sector.

Why make the public servants the problem when kenny and his arrogant ass is? He was the one leading the demonstration with Virginiaaa albottt when tuf was looking for 14 percent under king administration, today the shoe is on the other foot he is singing a different song. Lord please deliver my country st lucia from this man like you did for Venezuelian people.

I do not involve my self in the ding dong of their nasty politics. But I believe in saying right when it is right. And wrong; when it is wrong.

I strongly agree with the impression many people felt that Kenny Anthony's posture was one which was smelling of arrogance, conceit, insensitivity and all that was just bad as an image to be projected by a country's leader especially at a time like this.

After all; we are not in Syria, nor Libya or Sudan. This is St. Lucia. We are a very peaceful bunch of people.

What made his address terrible for me; is that this is the very same man who caused so many millions of dollars to be flushed/lost from the Government Treasury; and now don't tell me that we have heard enough about ROCHAMEL. Because this is important to the economic well-being of this Country.

We here cannot forget that more than forty-five million dollars were lost to St. Lucia; because the Minister of Finance was just not versed with the financial transactions which he negotiated on HIS OWN, with no involvement by the requisite officials of Government; and as the story which made the rounds in the business circles; the Bankers were laughing their heads off; and all the way to the bank; having recognized that the Emperor had no clothes; and contrary to the thought that he had new clothes. The Trickidadians were LOL.

Then we had the NCA where loads of Government funds just could not be accounted for. Then the scandal with the Helenites Building in New-York; belonging to us Lucians. Up to now we never heard the true story on this.

Then the GRENBERG Oil Exploration scandal. Even the Law relating to St. Lucia's natural resources was violated. Provisions in that Statute clearly states that it is the Governor General who can authorize any such approval. Again, millions are being flushed from the Treasury and we here in St. Lucia are expected by the Government to SHUT-UP our mouths.

That is one primary reason why the country is struggling. Too many millions have been flushed out of the Treasury.

I even forgot the famous Inquiry relating to the millions of cost over-runs on road-works.

Then that same Minister for Finance openly tells lies about the increase received by Senior Civil servants, but was not honest enough to let the public know that these same civil servants had not received an increase in more than TWENTY YEARS; ten of those years Kenny Anthony was the Minister for Finance; whilst he gave himself and his Cabinet Ministers a huge increase the very few months of his 1996 term in office.

He just turned us really angry with his lies attempting to put the people against the Public Service; but time will tell. Truth will always prevail over lies.

And by the way, he never even told the public in his address than after these civil servants never received an increase in more than twenty years they only received a three percent increase for each of the years approved for that increase. Whilst other rank and file officers got much more then three percent. The inflation rate is much higher than that three percent. So there you have it.

As far as I see it, the Prime Minister is incompetent, incapable of handling the economic and financial concerns of this country and should do the honourable thing and bow out.Too many are losing confidence in this country.

Mr. STEPHENSON KING MAY NOT HAVE A MASTER'S DEGREE OR DOCTORATE; BUT IT IS VERY CLEAR THAN HE HAS MUCH MORE SENSE THAN KENNY ANTHONY.

And more than that; what has been happening these past two weeks clearly show that Mr. King has much more valued qualities as a leader than Kenny Anthony. It is very clear.

The biggest problem with Kenny Anthony is that he always believes he knows what he does not know that he does not know. Therefore, he takes no advice, listens to no one. He hears but does not listen. He is just a complete misfit. Maybe its because of some arrogance or may well be a serious inferiority complex.

Blogger no. 1 the laybacks were hired in the main by Kenny Anthony's administration. Check it out. In fact this data should be made public.

I can understand the PM's position and the state of the economy; what I would like to hear is the measures the PM would like to take to bring the economy back on track; only when this happens he should offer any increase.
So far it seems as though the public servants are twisting his right arm. These servants will suffer later; the meagre increase they may receive will do more harm than good for the economy.

After watching a clip from last night's HTS News, I believe another potential disaster may have been averted. The PM's press secretary attempting to spar with a union leader amidst tense negotiations?! Seriously?!

Not only would that have been a major disservice to the PM, it could've set the talks back several paces. In our haste to defend, let's remember this thing called diplomacy. You catch more flies with honey than by simply attempting to swat the lot. Keep calm and ... don't be a bull in a china shop.

It would probably serve the PM better if his team sounded more erudite/informed on this matter. He should let his experienced, expert advisors speak. Have them present sound, logical arguments in a manner and tone that the nation finds digestible.

Shouting matches will only give the unions more leverage and make the PM appear to be a big bully.

What has just happened in St. Kitts with six Cabinet Ministers going/writing to their Governor General to state emphatically, that they have no confidence in that arrogant DENZIL DOUGLAS must be a wake up call for those Prime Ministers in the Caribbean, and indeed right here in St. Lucia, who believe that everyone must kiss their big toes to get ahead.

Kenny needs a St.Kitts-style No confidence vote and call elections.

Denzil Douglas has been behaving like an idiot for quite sometime, believing that he is operating some slave camp. Treating people very shoddy and disrespectful.

I am very elated at these turn of events. We must demonstrate to those scoundrels that in effect, they really have no power. And that the power lies in our hands, directly from us and secondly, what we give to our Elected Representatives. This is why as far as I am concerned, it maybe a good thing to rid ourselves of those SENATE appointments.

KENNY ANTHONY now needs a St. Kitts style VOTE-OF-NO-CONFIDENCE so that fresh elections can be held, and the Country can move on.

It has got to that point. People generally are getting to hate KENNY. losing confidence in him by the droves, increasingly they see him as a phony and do not want to see him around any longer.

And what a mess this country is in. Thanks to him in great measure.

I for one would have absolutely no problem saying to the public servants NO. Not at this time; but when I remember the mutimillion dollars that went down the drain, like the NCA Scandal, the WASCO millions that Kenny Anthony put there from the Treasury and that's what we have in the WASCO, the inquiry that clearly showed mismanagement resulting in the millions lost on cost over-runs, I say, let the Minister for Finance and the former Minister for Communications and Works be both held accountable, pay back those monies and pay the civil servants what they ask for; because when these monies are paid back, then there will lots of money back in the Treasury to do what is necessary for the country.

We must get into the habit of ceaselessly holding our politicians to account and to be transparent.

My word, I suppose I should be careful what I wish for. So much for suggesting that the government send its economic advisors to the front line.

Watching the PS in the Finance Ministry on The Hot Button Issue is like watching paint dry. Not very convincing. Not only does he speak in generalities, the IMF-trained economist seemed altogether unsure of the figures he was quoting. I doubt words like "I think", "nudged down a little bit", "thereabout", and "maybe" would instill public confidence. If you're going to quote figures be precise, don't guess-timate.

The issue of productivity in the Public Service is nothing new. Circa 2002, the ILO held a series of workshops at Indies discussing this. What happened to the recommendations that were made? Then again, we forget ever so quickly.

Might King's inflated economic growth projections during a Budget address a couple years ago have been attributable to this type of prognostication? If so, Houston, we have a problem.

Blogger of March 06, at 6.25PM. What Permanent Secretary of Finance?

The man cannot stand on his own two feet. He stands on one bent left leg. I keep telling you people accumulating degrees is one thing, but the WISDOM and NATURAL ABILITY to put learned knowledge into practice; and within the proper context; and for the betterment/well-being of the people of a country is a totally different ball-game.

These fellars accumulate degrees that are real fit for filing in the filing Cabinets. So many of them are failures and can't start a business of their own. they must keep running and hiding in Government with little value to add.

What experience in quality decision making did he have at the IMF. Are you aware of the BUREAUCRACY at the IMF?

He should let us see exactly what he was involved in at the IMF with respect to VALUABLE DECISION MAKING.

Many people can analyze economic and financial data if taught.

What valuable work experience did he have even before he went to the IMF as they relate to SERIOUS DECISON MAKING regarding a country's national wellbeing.

Based on his performance; I can safely say NOTHING.

These fellars believe that it is all about collecting some certificate and running to work at the IMF as some analyst; and whoops! they are all ready like Freddy to take serious decisions affecting a country and its people.

Jimmy Fletcher is no different. A round peg in a small hole and a complete waste of taxpayers money. Absolutely no output with real value and meaning to show.

If these guys were worth their salt they should have known that introducing a Value Added Tax System will slowly kill St. Lucia.

Funny a few months before Kenny Anthony won the elections; he had referred to the VAT on the market steps as a very regressive system of taxation. As soon as he got into Office; it was VAT, VAT, VAT from these own lips. Then again might it be that the Kenny and Tony syndrome is still on.

HIS PERFORMANCE WAS A MESS. VERY DISMAL INDEED. WHAT A WASTE OF TAXPAYERS' MONEY.

how hypocritical we are. the very same people crying for the head of the government seem to forget all the dirty "malproptay" that was going on under the previous administration. the super 8, and super 4's, the suspect involvement in shady activities of certain ministers and all the nastiness. as for public servants what work they doing for the pay they demanding?

Anonymous said...

It is one thing to do MAL-PWOP-TAY and everyone can see it and hear.

But when you do SALOP-TAY and MAL-PWOP-TAY and try to hide it at all cost and by any means necessary; through lies, lies and more lies. Deceit, deceit and more deceit. In my view this is a very dangerous person indeed.

In response to the blogger of March 7, 2013 at 2:34 PM, there is great value in education. Access to a sound tertiary education opens doors and presents tremendous opportunities which may otherwise have been locked away.

However, I've seen too many people cheat and connive their way through college to accept any degree at face-value. What's worse, even at an undergraduate level, I could've schooled some of my PhD professors who relied almost exclusively on textbook powerpoints for their lectures.

In fact, a running gag in the Science Department was: What do you call someone who graduates last in his Med class? Yes, you call him "doctor".

I agree that book smarts are one thing, applying them in a Real World context is another. A travesty in the Public Service is that underperformers either lay low and acquire moss, or simply get bounced between ministries. There are no appraisals or other Performance Measure Indicators.

@blogger #1
unfortunatly government will not take your idea but I agree it will solve the problem. (6% more salary against 6% less civil servants employees).
