CARICOM died as an infant!

Caricom was stillborn.

He's been writing on its headstone for some time now. His new-found religion appears to be necromancy. If he is not careful, he may well find himself in danger of being charged with the desecration of Caricom's grave. Methinks that it will finally be buried with him.

Interesting take on Caricom's effeteness, even as the decades-old organization advertises several vacant posts. Insularity is not the root cause of Caricom's failure as a trading bloc. The problem lies in our failure to innovate.

Smaller islands refuse to transition from simple growers to manufacturers. Trade benefits most those who transform common natural resources into unique, trail-blazing products. A few years ago, the assortment of tea in SLU was limited to Red Rose and Lipton. A Jamaican company (Caribbean Dreams) now offers a "unique" blend of Honey and Ginger, Lemon Grass, and Green Tea and Mint. This transition is not beyond our scope.

Rather than investing in amateurish logo competitions, the governments of these small islands should be funding national competitions aimed at promoting innovation. What can we do better? How do we go about it? Viable ideas should be justly rewarded.

Jamaica left first, then Trinidad from the WI Federation...there is no trust within CARICOM. The bigger islands are bullies.
