Are parents aiding and abetting crime?

I cannot agree more with this piece. It is imperative that parents take action now. Gone are the days when the neighbour could correct one's child. It's a shame. I don't believe that the parenting ways of the old days were always effective; however I do believe that young parents especially, can learn a few parenting skills from the older generation. The youth are the future of this country. If they continue in the path that they're heading, I definitely do not want to be a senior citizen in the years they'll be leading our country. It's already despicable enough with our present leaders- for crying out loud.
great article. too many parents shouldn't be parents because all they do is breed. they think of nothing about 'bringing up' the child.
I would start making the parents jointly liable for any criminal act committed by a minor. it's the only way to sharpen a few minds who need to look after their children properly.
Interesting article. A lot of us parents teach our kids to break rules. Little things have big effects. I remember going to watch a movie that was rated R at the cinema and parents were coming in with kids under 17, as far as they were concerned they were accompanying their kids, but what they were actually saying to their kids is that WE CAN BREAK RULES. The list can go on as to similar circumstances where parents allow children to do as they please simply because its easier than for them to correct the child. Sometimes I believe that as a nation we STAND FOR NOTHING, and TOLERATE ANYTHING. No wonder we have so much crime back home. Parents, our role is to parent our children, not just feed them, clothe them and send them off to school. That's the easy stuff.
Parents have to step up, parenting is a God given job but very tough to accomplish effectively. Too many parents tolerate wrongful behaviour and hide their children's misdeeds!!

Excellent piece! A former principal Mrs. Rene always told us at assemblies that bank robbers started by stealing pencils at school.
