The Tuxedo Villas Affair

I had my doubts about this Bonne Terre property, but if Mr. Mondesir has only lived there for brief periods of time and he has rented it out to tourists exclusively, I think the Opposition and the Comptroller of Customs are splitting hairs when they say that the Bonne Terre property was not eligible for concessions.

It is not a stretch of the imagination in any way to see that a person who owns several tourist accommodation properties makes a single application for tax concessions and puts only one name on the application form to cover all properties. In fact, why would a person who owns several properties only apply for concessions on one???

I have now changed my opinion of Terrence Leonard, former Comptroller of Customs, and think that he was politically motivated.

I am with you on this one. I too have change my opinion on that case. When the judge renders his ruling, if it is in favour of Mr. Mondesir, I believe an apology is due to the minister from Dr. Anthony and the SLP.

I will have more to say about that later!

Sorry fells but it's not as strightforward as that. The Court's verdict does not always who's right or who's wrong. It depends on how a case is framed.

Let's check this out. Mondesir says the property has been around for 19 years (1990) and the brochure is 20 years old
(1989). Mondesir has to prove that when he applied for the original concessions in 1993, the villa was included and the SLP has to show it was not. To me that is the case for and against. That's not rocket science. It should be a simple matter to produce the application Mondesir made in 1993 and the Cabinet conclusion. There are people around who were in the Ministry at the time who should be able to throw light on the matter like Eudes Bourne. The law at the time was very specific in requiring applicants to define the property (ies) to which the incentives will apply. And this was done exactly so Customs could track the things that Mondesir bought under these incentives to show they ddidn't end up elsewhere. If Mondesir did not include the villa under the original application, then tha villa should not contain anything bought under the concessions granted under that application. In that case, the Comptroller of Customs did the right thing in bringing charges vs Mondesir. Cabinet is wrong to retroactively apply the concessions of 1993 to the outside villa. We'll see what the court says. But the way I see this is the Government made a boo-boo in the way it handled the matter and the SLP made an even bigger boo-boo in the way it argued the case.

Oh! All of sudden the SLP is saying that once it decides to condemn or judge someone their view or opinion surpasses the ruling or the law of the land?

What arrogance, what sick self-righteous crap. Thank god I have never given the SLP dominion over my right as a citizen of St Lucia. Sackway Taliban! LOL

I thought the concessions were for Cricket World Cup.

In leading nations and territories that we always try to emulate, the rule is simple. Should you be privilege to serve as a minister, senator, or Prime Minister, these duties and responsibility are but your sole priority and require your 24hr devotion, bearing in mind state secrecy, intellectual property knowledge, security matters, political matters, etc. It’s the responsibility of the Leadership and the Integrity commission to regularize this once and for all.

As a result all and any personal commercial activity (s) or any other form must be placed in “Trust” devoid of ones “perceive impute”. I guest in St.Lucia government and the people’s business is not a full time responsibility and other activities are required to make up the time. In the Islands there is always an exception to the rule.

Guy’s stop and take a look in the mirror and make that change. Much is at stake. North America is not my retirement home. I need to return and participate, but such is not helping the cause, nor will I ever live in St.Lucia under an SLP administration, I have never and will not, except for a vacation.

Give us your reasons for not ever living in St Lucia under an slp administration.

Guys and girls, Mondesir is simply up to his old tricks again. I invite you all to STOP just chatting away for a while, and do a little investigative journalism for a few minutes. Rick is too tired these days to investigate, and Micah is not pulling up his socks as much as he could, and I believe that his boss is secretly quite dismayed by this. We DO NOT research enough!! Yet, we TALK TOO MUCH. MY CHALLENGE to you chatters and Micah George, and of course to TIRED OLE RICK if he has the energy: Go and find out WHY Mondesir got into trouble with the people in Saint Kitts (my friend's relatives) who Mondesir was owing TWENTY SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS in rent, and refused to pay up, until a Judge found him guilty in Court and he had to cough up the money or face time among the jailbirds. YES, it was Minister Mondesir!! No one else. GO DO SOME RESEARCH then come back and talk to the readers. HAPPY HUNTING.

It is my understanding that Mondesir applied for the concessions before he became a member of government.

Anonymous said...

So what is your point? We do not need your understanding, we need the facts. OK my dear.

Anonymous said...

Because he applied before, now he is our boss, he could TAKE IT ILLEGALLY. I will tell you the law applies for him also, gone are the days.

My point is that someone said Mondesir's business should have been placed in trust to avoid conflict of interest. When he applied for concessions, he was not in government so his property was not in trust.

The point remains, " MP'S busines must be placed "trust". An what on earth is he associating commercially with the property and making cabinet decisions on his property behalf. Dam fool,, playing the minds of the elecotrate. These days are over, get on with peoples business 24/7. Affordable health care for all, new hospitals with quality services, and equipment. Free medical and RX for seniors. Health insurance.Look, i don't want to provide free consulting services for you. ALLAHU AKBAR meaning God is Great!!1

The concessions were granted by the SLP government for the Cricket World Cup. Mondesir was NOT in Cabinet at that time so he could not have influenced the decision.

"Affordable health care for all, new hospitals with quality services, and equipment, free medical and RX for seniors" all cost money. If god is so great, maybe god can deliver!

I humbly suggest that free consulting services is all that you will ever provide.

Enjoy the rest of your day.
