As usual we act only after the criminals have bolted. Regular security audits should have been done of Bordelais to ensure it became the maximum security prison it was intended to be.

I like the Labour's position on national security. I only hope that can execute it when they get back into government and not get caught up in any corruption.

They were in office, what the hell did they do? How stupid can you be to build a prison by the ocean, where prisoners can easily escape by boat in this vast ocean?

Zeigy said...

Where would you propose we put the damn prison genius? We are surrounded by the ocean on all sides. In the middle of the rain forest?

Zeigy said...

Maybe next time they could trim the thick bush around the prison so that jail breakers have no cover and their accomplices can be seen a mile off.

Where the are guards who should have been posted from the very entrance of the road that leads to the prison? All this arse talk about how good SLP policies were did not bring about a reduction in crime. SLP is still floating a set of failed ideas. St Lucia your country have gone to the doggggs!! Face it none of these politicians have the answer to wait is wrong with your country.

Question! Do we have enough weapons to take on the venezuelan cartel?

Anonymous said...

only way you can take on the venezuelan cartel, is by stationing SSU there.

There are too many in the prisons who are on the take. I hope that there is a big shake down and heads have to roll. Everyone should be a suspect including Hilary Herman. This happened under his watch (or lack thereof) while he was smooching with the press.
I'm just saying.

I AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE correctional system in saint lucia. Firstly, when HILARY HERMAN was appointed back into the the Bordelais Correctional Facility, I recalled saying to a key Saint Lucian, that I was convinced and somehow still is convinced, that the person you recommended this move to the minister for national security, was definitely seeking his utter downfall.

The official records will show if they have not disappeared that HILARY HERMAN IS DOWNRIGHT INCOMPETENT.INCAPABLE of managing anything far less this important Government Institution. The files at the Ministry of the Public Service are clear on this, unless they too have disappeared. There are officials currently in the System who know that this man is completely out of his depth. Kenny Anthony must know that as well. Prvious members of the PRISONS BOARD OF VISITING JUSTICES which had oversight of the Bordelais Correctional Facility know that all too well. STAFF AT THE BCF are well aware of this. This is primarly the reason why there was this PROTEST ACTION by the staff when this Government was bringing HILARY HERMAN back. This is a serious and grave mistake made by the Government which is and will continue to cost much loss to the country.Herman must be relieved of his duties. Save this country. It is my view that there appears to be a deliberate attempt to place the most incompetent misfits in the most serious positions in Saint Lucia, to the detriment, we can see, to the entire country. We as Saint Lucians must examine carefully what is taking place in the country, time is running out, and it may well be too late. Has this Government read the report on the review which was undertaken by the ministry of Home Affairs and internal Security, and the Ministry of the Public Service in 2006? What was discovered? What did HILARY HERMAN accomplish during his tenure since then?
The staff protest at the BCF at the time plans were underway to re-apponint Herman at the BCF should have been a large eye-opener to GUY MAYERS, but instead he allowed himself to be hoodwinked and misled. Did GUY MAYERS seek to get his own discreet survey of the staff's reaction to re-introducing Herman. I doubt that. If he did, and he had the Country at heart, he would have been more circumspect and listen carefully to the staff. But instead he allowed opportunists in the media to hoodwink him.Persons who I am fully aware of Herman's ineptitude, but made it their business to pretend that the staff did not want HERMAN back, because he is a no-nonsense person. HOGWASH! Not even the staff member who served as HERMAN's secretary could say anything credible where he is concerned.I promise you this. There are going to be worst events than this at the BCF under HERMAN's watch. The investigation should begin with reading the above cited REPORT, and then make a request to the British for a full investigation of Sunday's event by Scotland Yard, I am confident that the senior and rank-and-file staff would fully co-operate. Saint Lucians would be shocked to learn what is really going on in Saint Lucia. Then again, for security reasons,Scotland Yard's Report may not be made public, for obvious security reasons, but al least some persons in Government would be made aware. That is , if they don't already know.HILARY HERMAN for the good and safety of the Country must be relieved. I wondered too, was a former National Security Minister with a hidden personal agenda against his colleagues, prompted possibly in cognito, the current Home Affairs Minister to make such a serious and dangerous mistake? The BCF must be carefully examined. Read the files from the Prisons Board of Visiting justices. Review the several correspondence on the infamous CCTV PROJECT that LAGGED on for years under HERMAN's watch. Review clinically what and why the CCTV PROJECT since 2003 is yet to take full shape! WHAT A SORRY STATE SAINT LUCIA IS IN? WILL SAINT LUCIANS EVER LEARN? WHAT A MESS!

We Saint Lucians are relying on the ilk of journalist like Micah George to report to us on the truth of what is going on at the Bordelais Correctional Facility. Given Mr. George's obvious credibility we can be assured that knowing his clear journalistic skills he will get to the bottom of this STINK, and let us know the truth. We trust him as our independent investigator. We are proud of you Mr. George, those of us who live abroad and read your articles and discuss them, feel proud of you as Saint Lucians. I bet Mr. George has already by now, got a good hint on what is going on at Bordelais in reality. KEEP MAKING US LUCIANS OVERSEAS PROUD. YOUR WORK STANDS OUT.

The problem you have with this is that as soon as any issue arises in St. Lucia it immediately becomes a political football. UWP vs SLP.
The facts are that when it comes to law and order the track records of the the present UWP Government AND the previous Kenny Anthony Administration are abysmal. It is clear that neither party has understood what GOVERNANCE is about and what their roles are in improving the lives of our people.

Kenny Anthony had already thrown up his hands in dispair when he asked that criminals give St. Lucians a chance for Christmas. Over 200 St. Lucians were murdered during his administration. He compounded his arrogance in the House when he lied about having said what he did with regard to criminals giving St. Lucians a break during Christmas.

The answers to St. Lucia's problems requires a completely different attitude and set of policies plus a leader courageous enough to tell St. Lucians what they do not want to hear and also to act in a manner to create results to serve St. Lucia and not politicians.

But that is problamatic. Why ? Because when you begin to "talk truth to power" there are too many entrenched individuals who want the status quo to remain and who are quite happy with things as they are because they are on the top of the pile. This includes our politicians and many business leaders and lawyers who all have their "connections" with existing politicians that they do not want to break.

St. Lucia is a failed state continuimg the downward spiral and nothing indicates this will change anytime in the future.

The above comment is accurate. Unless and until, we St. lucians recognise the importance of placing our country before any ploitical party or for that matter any politician, we shall NEVER recover.Mark my word. We can only regress further. The writer is on the button. Neither party did what it should have done for the betterment of the people of the countryu when it came to Law and Order. In my view, Kenny's appointment of Petrus Compton as AG. was the first major error. The entire Caribbean echoed that sentiment when this appointment was made. His record speaks for itself. Again, Herman was appointed under Kenny when Sarah Flood was Minister.I believe what we saw as new police stations and fire stations were not really about the people, but about the monies that flowed from the projects regarding these constructions. The same can be said for Bordelais. The people were never at the heart of these initiatives. The Prison Officers as well as the Police Officers know they were really not the persons in mind, when these Police and Fire stations were built. Why? The many important things for the well-being of these institutions remained as usual. We must move to a new level of governance in the country. There are many infelicities/lapses/malfeasance which have yet to be brought to the attention of the populace arising from both KEnny and now King's time. I really believe that the time is truly opportune for a clean shift away from the SLP/UWP type thing. A clean sweep to a new credible group of persons. This will involve alot of direct discussion with the public, live TV Panel discussions to enlighten Saint Lucians on what has been going on in Government under both Kenny and Stephenson's tenure. As well as Public Community Meetings to name a few. If the average Saint Lucian knew what has been happening in Government, and they are in the majority, St. Lucia would be different. The average majority would put a spanner in the wheel, so to speak, of the few elites-business money-mongrels, lawyers and so forth.
Examine the mess at WASCO. It started under Kenny Anthony. Remember Martin Satney as General Manager, supposed to have re-engineered WASCO? Millions were borrowed in 1998 to fix/clean-up WASCO? We have never once, up to now heard or saw any WASCO Report on that multi-million WASCO clean-up in Parliament. In't this a whole lot of sick jokes taking place in Saint Lucia? Then the next thing we heard,Martin Satney moved from Agricultural Officer to Permanent Secretary. And the "good times" continued at St. Lucia's great expense. Then he sues the Government and gets away. St. Lucians are on a roller-coaster going to no-man's land.

Saint Lucia is indeed a failed State. And is next to go the way of Jamaica, even before Guyana in that sense.

And it will be much precipitated when the USA moves as is being heard to tighten up on the non-immigrant visitor VISA process even more. Many Saint Lucians won't be able to visit the USA.

I will not say why here. But just a hint. Check out the public profiles of the current Cabinet. Examine the recent developments in Saint Lucia, starting with the so-called sickness of John Compton, which was a dark secret from the entire country for weeks. Then Spider Montoute, alledgedly, not allowed to see him at hospital, etc. etc. and henceforth, a spiralling of ugly event, upon ugly event occuring in St. Lucia, none stop, up to today. It just keeps getting from bad, to worse, to worst.Morbid and defunct.Everything has collapsed. The Public service is virtually destroyed, and it began under Kenny's administration.Little wonder the majority do not want either Party. The least that we should seek to do, come election time, is to deliver a HUNG PARLIAMENT, so no-one holds real power. Everyone is kept on tender-hooks. That's the least we should do.

Credibility & Inconsistencies - Who is this Minister?

1000 percent absent from St. Lucia?
Not Credible?
Not Reliable?
Who signed a memorandum based on a private discussion?
Who prepared the invisible note to cabinet?
Which ministry is run like a private enterprise? AND,

Whose's answers were evasive and so outrageous as to be false; because he said he was not at Cabinet meeting on 26th June 2008, when the Minutes recorded him as being present?

Who makes such decisions that are defiance of logic and accepted moral standards that no sensible person who had applied his mind can arrived at.

Who was “involved in a cover up to protect one of their members”?

Who fired 9 hostesses in Soufriere?

The stage is set….Voters, are you ready for the battle?

Those of us who live away from sweet Helen, keep very much up to date with every nook and cranny of sweet Helen. The Bordelais fiasco was a time bomb waiting to happen. Let the TRUTH be known. We say, bring in a BLOM-COOPER type inquiry for BORDELAIS. That may do sweet Helen well.At least, there a still quite a few, you were expecting this still living on sweet Helen, and I suspect chuckling, at the result. For better or for worse?
