SAINT Lucia, please

We have a tendency in this country of ours, to adopt the Models of the so-called developed/industrial Nations, copying even their faults/faux-pas contained therein. Even though we are a small and so-called developing nation, we must, once and for all, begin to THINK for ourselves. Use our brains to advance the country and a better way of life for the majority, than the morass that currently, and for sometime now, passes for living in St. Lucia. Supermarket price gouging is turning the middle class in St. Lucia, to the lower class levels. And the lower class levels sinking deeper to the lower than poverty lines. To the indigent lines, I might add.

St. Lucia, notwithstanding its achievements of producing two of the World's NOBEL LAUREATES, one in Economics, and the other in Literature, a great Novelist/ Writer indeed, yet we as a Nation have not taken advantage in any form, to push our country forward using this as a hallmark, for the country. And it started with politicians, and I dare you to say that I am being political. When a politician,a Community so-called leader calls one of our World's Nobel Laureates, a Johnny-Come-Lately, we should have, excuse me, chewed -off his head, I don't mean literally, but gave him a whopping with our criticisms and chastisement, and called for his resignation from Government. But no, we shut our mouths for politics sake. And today, we are reaping that particular whirlwind. We should in the Education sector and in a sense as a form of Public Policy in education, encourage through our schools to exhort our children to excell using our Nobel Laureates as an example. The so-called Nobel Laureate week, smacks of a put-on show, with no depth and sincerity, and hence the reason, the ordinary rank-and-file St. Lucian do not participate. It comes off like a showpiece, not something meant to benefit everyone. We as St. Lucians tend to get envious of persons in our midst, who are endowed with great sharp minds, brains and talents. We do all we can to blind our eyes to this. So today we are paying the high price in the form of violence, drugs, gangasters, murders, etc. etc.I said this, to connect onto the issue in that article.

Just what the heck, anyone means, that if I, as a St. Lucian holds a United States, British or Canadian passport, or any other passport for that matter, then I cannot contribute in a meaningful way to my country? Did someone just fall on his/her head or what? Just thinking this, is absurd. Many Lucians migrate for a better life, away from the scrunting way of life many are subjected to. Whether they go to England, USA, France, Canada, Martinique, or whatever. They go to obtain a better standard of living for themselves and their family. And very often, for sheer survival. So does that mean they were not born here? Does that means someone removed their navel strings from where it was buried in St. Lucia, and threw it overseas? Does that mean all their loved ones left behind in St. Lucia suddenly vanished in thin air? Does that mean that a St. Lucian with a second citizenship suddenly loses his/her love, devotion, concern, sentimental attachment to his/her country? It is some of those same so-called educated jack-asses, who parade as if they have any natural intelligence, planting this crap talk, in the country, and continually causing strife rather than focussing on the critical things needing attention. For example, campaign financing, Big Business and politicians in bed to sell-off St. Lucia, quality of representation at the Constituency level, and governmental level, positions assigned based on a person's ability and not for those who lick-butt.etc. et crap, will certainly pay for instiga including the USA go that way, we don't give one damn. We have good brains as St. Lucians and we can think constructively for ourselves' So I say to those coming with this crap, GET A LIFE. Get serious about your country and advance it, please get off that BACKWARD STEP. We ain't getting worst than we are.

Sorry, towards the end of my comment, some words got left out. I meant to say----We ought to not give one damn whether St. Vincent, Dominica, Grenada, USA or any other go that way. That's not our business. We have good brains here in St. Lucia and we can think for ourselves. So to those who are instigating that crap talk in St. Lucia, I say, look out you will pay for it. If you have lost your way in life, sort yourself out, Get a Life, and get off that crap talk.

The idiots who are fanning that particular flame should know that obtaining citizenship by a St. Lucian in a country where he lives, ascribes rights and priviledges to him/her and their families. As a matter of fact children born to St. Lucian parents should have a right to run for elective politics in St. Lucia if they so choose. So what the hell are those educated-jack-asses talking about. It is those kind of people who believe they are educated, that brings St. Lucia to despair. Go to France! Get back with that.

Great editorial. Tell Kenny to take this one and send it back better to us!

Dr Anthony did not write the constitution of St lucia, so why blame him now? He did not figure this at the back of his head, it is the law of St Lucia.

Anonymous said...

If you are a citizen of another country then it will be a conflict of interest, you can only serve one master at a time, Fair Helen or some other Country.

Anonymous said...

He may not have written it, but has done everything to keep it this way:both during he time in office and now as a struggling and a desperate politician on the opposition benches. Power have a way of making people mad . Kenny in opposition is one of those.

In what way is Dr Anthony struggling? i wish i was struggling like Dr Anthony. How can a man who is making $15000 a month for going to the house a few times a year, and making more money in his law office as a constitutional lawyer, his wife is a lecturer at UWI. He is already qualified for a big pension. We all know it is the poor people of St Lucia who are desperate and struggling because of that corrupt and incompetent flambeau government on their backs. not Dr Anthony. If Dr Anthony had changed the constitution you all would be the same bias ones criticizing him saying he did for his advantage and he is a dictator etc.

Kenny is just another part of the less than 10 percent visionless, parasitic, and khaki-coloured predatory minority that has hoodwinked St. Lucians into believing they will and can represent the views, dreams and aspirations of the remaining 90 percent black population.

People like him and Chastenet do not share the experiences, nor the upbringing, nor the hardships, nor the poverty, nor the deprivation and nor the hunger of the 90 percent black population. Why the heck does he still think that he can still represent the rest of us?

The young people in Castries rejected his poster boy of a candidate, LaCorbs. Kenny still does not get it. There are others in the Labour party who can do a better as PM.

There is no divine right of khaki-coloured people to rule this country. They have their lackeys and Uncle Toms fronting for them as champions of their special interests.

Like Compton before him, during his two terms in government he did ABSOLUTELY nothing to prepare St. Lucians to take charge of economic their lives in a globalised world economy. All he did was to FOLLOW Compton by enlarging the pool of low-skilled, low-paid young people for dead-end menial jobs in the tourism sector.

In the meantime, he and the other Uncle Toms provided an economic atmosphere where St. Lucians would face a future of working all their full lives without ever breaking the back of poverty. Kenny does not understand what are the factors behind the emergence of chronic the working poor in St. Lucia. He does not even understand, why TWO ghettos grew under his very nose under his watch.

This man, like Chatenet is so disconnected from the majority black population, that he even parades his need for whiteness by dumping his black wife.

Kenny has no answers to St. Lucia's unemployment. Therefore he substitutes legal quarrels time after time, to fill in and try to mask his uselessness and gross ineffectiveness.

As was said elsewhere, Kenny has one skill which is the law. Since he graduated to join the legal and Khaki parasitic elite, just a carpenter with one tool, as a hammer, everything and every problem before him is a nail. Hit it with the law.

The electorate is moving to independent candidates and the new LPM party in droves. His solution to this is to make dual citizenship the new nail to be hammered down.

Like Chastenet, Kenny has not yet realised that khaki-coloured people are not any smarter than blacks. With all his acclaimed legal knowledge, he wrote contracts for the construction company which obligingly took 45 million dollars from him. It was just like stealing candy from a baby.

'How great thou art! How great thou art' How smart thou art! How smart thou art!!!!!'

Every time Kenny takes those legal excursions La La Land, he looks more and more desperate and becomes increasingly irrelevant to the problems facing the country.

Sir John George Melvin Compton made the point that Dr. Anthony would have made an excellent Attorney General but that it was highly inappropriate to make him the Prime Minister of St. Lucia.

He turned out to be correct as Dr. Anthony has the MASSA mentality without the managerial ability of his Uncle Dennis Barnard.

He therefore ruled as if it was his given right even when day after day his incompetence was glaringly real for everyone to see.

I find you the writer and Compton who is a foreigner to be very, very, very rude to tell to us St Lucians who we should elect as PM of our country. ONLY in St Lucia can a foreigner can be PM, that could NEVER happen in Barbados, NEVER.
The writer seem to be attacking Dr Anthony who did his best to clean up the MESS Compton left in the country. Can we imagine or picture how the country would have been if the SLP did not came into office and did some development in the country? We would have been one of the most backward island in the caribbean. Try to disprove that? I am waiting.

Under the SLP Administration interest payments on our national debt went from $16 million annually to $65 million annually. From app $1.3 million per MONTH to $1.25 million per WEEK.

Agricultural production dropped precipiteously including for OTHER CROPS (aside from bananas) that fell by 30% under Dr. Anthony.

Murders went from about 10 annually month to 40 annually.

The work permits board was abolished and foreigners were given carte blanche to hire foreigners when locals could fill the post. All because the foreigners were cosy with the SLP Administration.

The foreigners were not required to train locals to fill those posts which would have been the most important requirement for foreigners to get all the perks that they did.

The SLP Administration could only borrow and throw money at problems without solving them. They actually boasted at one point about throwing $150 million at agriculture without any result and they BOASTED about this incompetence and ineptitude.

This is what we want to go back to ?

It is so easy for us to feel inferior because we have tried so long amid the tragic assignments of injustice and oppressions; we recognized that feeling of inferiority often to passivity and fear. The greatest enemy of mankind is the influence of fear, which allows us to lack the needs of boldness and resolve to sustain a movement for change.

When fear rules, progress becomes stunted, justice is deferred and equality proves evasive. The courage that is so essential to significant social advancement can easily fall prey to crippling cowardice. Fear is the greatest enemy of mankind, that would retard the racial progress society so desperately require.

This psychological implication of discrimination is one of the deep-rooted senses of inadequacy, equivalently to a badge of inferiority. This is one of the devastating consequences of slavery, and segregation which explains particular challenge to self-esteem we so often faced.
Let us continue to hope, and pray that in the future we will live to see a warless world, a better distribution of wealth, and a brotherhood that transcends race and color.
