I wish that this group would extend their horizons and those pupils and teachers beyond what I would call 'hurricane relief' or 'hurricane rehabilitation' to include 'education outcomes' inclusive of preparing those kids for technology-oriented tertiary education.

St. Lucia is crying out for 'out-of-the-box' approaches to everything that we do from now on.

Tomas gives us a wonderful opportunity to look at the way we have done everything (govern, elect people, teach, learn, educate, and entertain) and create -- at the very deep and personal level -- new creative ways of making POSITIVE enduring and permanent changes in the lives of ALL of St. Lucians for the better.

It is heartening to see this group take on a useful initiative to help correct the damage. However, it would be better if it can develop the courage and gain the insights to lead as no other group has done before -- as a credit and continuation of the work and achievements of our own Sir Arthur Lewis a past leader of UWI.
