Saint Lucia day is celebrated all over the world, you fool...it's about the Saint and since we were named after her then we must celebrate.

December 13th is the feast day of St Lucy, our patron Saint, and from whom St Lucia got it's name.

I guess it became our National [Discovery] Day.

In all fairness, I think our independence on February 22nd should be celebrated with a holiday, over St Lucy's day, which can still be observed, but not with a holiday.

I wonder 100 years from now, whether we would celebrating a bogus independence thrust down our throats by an equally bogus St. Lucian named John Compton.

To me, both dates are bogus. But December 13, has greater credibility. Our very name is after the patron saint of the island.

What would be more convincing would be the renaming of the island after the original inhabitants and observing that day on December 13 each year.

Down with the phonies, excons, drug lords and two-timing UWP politicians!

Used to be St Lucian said...

Earl what makes you think the world is laughing at you all...the world do not give a f*/*# about St Lucia ... when the world wants to laugh they hire clowns. What goes on in St Lucia makes one want to vomit especially in the Justice System

Yes Earl, I tend to agree with you on the fact that Dec 13th should not be celebrated as our discovery day. As a boy at RC I always thought it was. But after getting into secondary school and doing history, I was able to see things more clearly. The way I looked at it is that seeing there were inhabitants on the island when Columbus is alleged to have sighted and named the island,he cannot be considered it discoverer, as these inhabitants were from South America. But, I have asked myself, "Had he not informed the rest of the civilized world that there was an island at this latitude and longitude where we are now, would they know that St. Lucia existed at all?. With this, I have always thought that Columbus should have been called the "FOUNDER" and not the discoverer of St. Lucia, since there were settlements on the island when he is alleged to have sighted it. As far as celebrating the holiday, I believe what should have been done is that our Independence should have been taken on Dec 13th and call that George, but politics screwed this up. Now I must also add that we cannot dispel the logic of Armchair Anonymous.
