Micah, it is very clear that you are being mischievors to Dr. Raymond. Why would you connect two totally different stories under one topic; a topic that is connecting Dr. Raymond to the Dennery shooting. I have lost all respect for you as a journalist and even as an individual. Shame on you Micah.

Micah, I listened intently to what Dr. Raymond had to say about his resignation, and I am amazed at how you interpreted the man's decision to a point where you are trying to cast doubt about his ability as an experienced Economist.

I am appalled at how St. Lucian society disses individuals of quality and intellectual substance. I don't know much about your island but one thing is certain (that is, based on what I read)that some individuals including yourself from St. Lucia are very myopic and embraces a significant level of mediocrity in their work and decision making.

Something tells me that you and your government are in for a major disappointment about Dr. Raymond as it relates to his performance as an Economist elsewhere. As an Economist, and colleague of Dr. Raymond in the United States, I must admit that he is a rare quality in the field of Economics who always embraces a challenge in his field. He was encouraged not to return to his country because of the potential of being treated disrespectfully by persons with hidden agendas and ignorance. He refused to accept that this could be a reality given the willingness of his party to embrace educated individuals...boy was he wrong.

Your government's decision to not utilize this man's skill is a serious indictment of hegemonic ideals and blatant discrimination and sheer disrespect for quality education.

Micah, you have shown your true party colour - red. You guys cannot deal with the fact the man has made a personal decision to fully utilize his skill and to futher his career. Why would you fault the man for that decision? Dr. Raymond, I support you all the way.

UB(Dr. Raymond), What's going down there in your small island. I remember you were one of those who couldn't tolerate the idea that your people operates from small island mentalities. Your government and those who criticize you (a man of such integrity and quality)are obviously functioning at base levels. Hope you don't mind me saying this again...all the best man. Your friend always, UF

What the heck is a Phd economist doing in Consumer Affairs? This sounds like a ploy to fustrate the good Doctor. Why not Economic Affairs? Why not Planning and National Development? My neice, who works in the Consumer Affairs unit told me that the unit deals mainly with price control items such as rice, flour, sugar. She new from the onset that Dr. Raymond would not have survived this. My prayers are with you Dr. Raymond.

I will be placing this post on my FB page so your former classmates and colleagues can see (it is definitley bad publicity for St. Lucia but I will do it anyway). This is definitely a sad day for all of us Economists who strive for excellence in our work. Hold on strong man, and make us proud in the TCI even if your government seems bent on trying to destroy your image. We know you and we will vouch for you anytime.

I just wish I had remained in the US after graduating from Grambling University. Most of us graduates studied areas that were on the Priority List and upon returning home we cannot even find a suitable job? Most of us are still unemployed. I had discused that issue with you at Serenity Park about a month ago. I truly understand how you feel. I wish you well.

we have enough of our unemployment issue to deal with in the US. Please stay where u belong. Even our Masters and Phd holders cannot find a job.

Our leaders are notorious for not utilizing skills that are scarce in this country. So Dr. Ubaldus experience is not surprising and istressing. I was once denied a scholarship and approval to study for a masters degree. Reasons given in Cabinet will scare the daylight out of some people. However I studied on my own without kenny's blessing... Later a government advisor played games and refused to give me a letter for the School to indicate that the subject of study for my PhD dissertation was important for Saint Lucia's development.

The good Doctor seems to believe that because of his academic achievements,he should be afforded cabinet membership. The fact he is a political novice is irrelevant. The fact that he lost his seat and is in govrrnment soley at the PMs patronage is olso irrelevant. The fact that he not showing loyalty to the party is irrelevant. The fact that he is being courted by the LPM is olso irrelevant.

Our little island I belive has a disprprtionate number of Phds, just as it has with lawyers. Dr.U maybe a competent economist, but there is little evidence of him being a good politician. He may be an effecient technocrat, but no track record of civic service in St.Lucia.

If this Dr. feels his talent are being under utilised, how must the emminent Dr.Vaugn Lewis feel, the man is a proffessor of proffessors.

Someone alerted me to this link about Dr. Raymond, and man you small island people are so disrespectful to a man of integrity and talent. You who speak ill of him, do you really know who Dr. Raymond is? This man personifies excellence and dedication. Sorry, America and now TCI has given him a chance to prove himself. Hey, UB our doors are still open to welcome you because we in the US value quality...can't say the same for your island St. Lucia that I know you cherish.

St. Lucians have no vision. They are all bent on making sure people stay in their place. Small island mentality that continues to hold us back. After having worked as a professional anywhere else and returning to St. Lucia and seeing how the people operate, even the most patient person will get frustrated. We have no respect, zero professionalism, tremendous attitude of accepting mediocrity and absolutely poor work ethics. In St. Lucia, it's not what you know, it's who you know and how much butt you can kiss.

The headline on this article alone says a lot, what the hell do the two stories have to do with each other? I guess it was too much trouble to put them on separate pages with separate headlines? Mediocrity reigns in Lucia!!!

Before I begin, let me make my political affiliation clear: I have supported the SLP from the womb & I'm a Castries East constituent. That having been established, let me say to the biased detractors in this blog who claim that Dr. Raymond has no political experience: BOTH the former leader John Compton & the 'good' Dr. Anthony, were at one time, political novices; it's not something that one is born with. Need I remind you of the fact that St. Lucia has had a long history of installing political novices in ministerial positions? Has it been that long? .... Tessa Mangal, Allan Chastanet, Guy Mayers, Ausbert d'Auvergne were appointed as ministers less than 6 years ago. Did they ever win any seats? Answer: a resounding NO. By your standards, the following ministers: Lorne Theophilus, Emma Hippolyte, Alvina Reynolds, Dr. Lewis and Mosa JnBaptiste, would be "new-kids-on-the-political-block" or have they somehow racked up political experience that I am not aware of? .....

What's that you said? They won their seats, but Dr. Raymond, did not. True, but presently, La Corbinere, Fletcher & Felix head up ministries but don't represent constituencies (because they never faced the electorate). Am I to infer that it was something other than their abilities to bring home a constituency which made them fit to do so? By any stretch of the imagination, would that 'something" have been proven acumen/ ability/savvy/know-how in their chosen field (law, development, not sure what that would be in Felix's case) which made them ministerial material, because in that case, Dr. Raymond, has certainly more than distinguished himself in his chosen field ....

On another note, I have always held the view that the ability to sweet talk females, hand out a few party T-shirts/$ bills, & buy a few BBQ'ed chicken legs, Piton beers at the local bar in order to amass votes to win at the polls, do not a prolific minister make ..... I cite these recent examples as my empirical evidence: Stephenson King, Keith Mondesir, Marcus Nicholas (Agriculture in 2006), Edmund Estephane, Guy Joseph, Arsene James (these last 2 ought to be have been locked up for the way they repeatedly massacred the English Language. Could you imagine them representing us in an international forum? Whatever would the world think; that English is not our native language?) .... Anyway, I'll stop here, because by now you should have got my point ...

Dr. Raymond, I respect and applaud your sacrificial decision to have returned to the land of your birth in order to attempt to give back; sadly, to your detriment, you and your progressive mind-set are light-years ahead of that of many of your countrymen .... Don't worry about it though; after all, Jesus came unto His own, and they knew it not. I sincerely hope that this time, you've cast your pearls before a more appreciative lot .... May God continue to guide and bless you on the next leg of your journey.

MICAH:
Again ... this, your story, is quite painful to read ... where your grammar is concerned. This story should never have left the proofreader's desk (if there is one!!)

"... Dr. Raymond had already spillED his guts (DELETE "OUT" out ..."
"... I listenED and read carefully ..."

I TRIED to read the story, then give my opinion to your article - but it is so lop-sided, I couldn't continue.

You could do much better than that.

Agreed above - I too tried to read Micah's article, and it is chock full of bad grammar, bad usage of verbs and adjectives, and quite a few "lop-sided" sentences. I had to give up - frazzled the reading nerves.

This is a very annoying article.
I wonder why the Voice keeps Micah George as a reporter. The man shows no class even in an article caption, is totally baren of writing style, and produces nothing that makes sense to a reader.
What does he know about any one, in politics or not, being competent? Micah should return to preschool, and let the Voice hire a journalist who has "skills to be utilized"

Micah, it is not a shameful thing to be highly skilled; it is admirable.
