Public support for athletics in St. Lucia leaves a lot to be desired.
I was fortunate to witness the Jamaican inter secondary schools athletics competition - Champs this year and it was like the whole country was at the stadium.

No wonder Jamaica does so well in the sport. We need to emmulate that in St. Lucia.

We are very quick to criticize young people but very slow to support them in positive endeavours.

My sincere congratulations go out to the winners as well as all the other members of the St. Lucian contingent. Keep up the good work.

Hats off to the organizers and the SLAA. Great job guys and gals.

hey i also saw the jamaica champs and took notice of a packed stadium with well over thirty thousand spectators i think the problem lies with promoting events relating to athletics ...not only carifta but national meets which i always participate in ...so the pressure is on our association to try to get the crowd out there to support our athletes and change will be seen

I am a current athlete in the USA and used to run in St, Lucia. I believe that the presence of spectators at the meets has to do with the quality of competitors. This might sound very disrespectful but St. Lucia is not on the international scene as much as Jamaica is. Athletics in Jamaica is a big thing I assume maybe bigger than football. In St. Lucai its all about boring cricket(in my opinion) and football. Track does not have the glamour and the party atmosphere like those sports. Its long, there are breaks in between. I mean what is there to do?...I have been to many track meets in the US from big to small at different colleges and the turnout consists of athletes and maybe a tiny bit of parents. No one comes to track meets. Thats just the way it is. I don't think there is much the association can do. Needless to say in our small island thinking, Vieux fort ust to far to go to see people run up and down and in a circle. Gas high, bus high. It just not working. I love Track and field and it doesn't take a crowd full of spectators to make you run well. Although it does help if it makes you nervous as crap.(I don't get nervous though sow hatever) Just jump Lenyn and Sandisha and compete makeba, and just run Rolstan. You will get yours if you want it.
