Another exercise in mis-education. When we waste so much of the available resources especially time, how much is left to be devoted to educating our people for occupations that will bring a stream of income in gainful employment?

This society needs some serious leadership for a change! People wake up and stop the crap that we are wading through knee deep!!!!

Blogger #1, it appears that your negative experiences, lack-of-education in the arts, and possibly yourtotal incapacity to comprehend the arts - or at least what you think are the arts - have seriously distorted your judgement. Numerous research studies have categorically proven quite the opposite to your opinion.

On the other hand, if your response is based on some of the very poor standards that are currently passing for art-education, then your overall impression and response is most understandable.

However, if we consider the examplary music-centered education program that is so successfully being used in Venezuela, then St Lucia could do no better than to decide to apply exactly this 'System' in our own schools.

Furthermore, it is a statistical fact that university students with extensive backgrounds in the arts, especially classical music, continually score the highest grade-point averages throughout their college years as well as greater success throughout their careers of choice. Among the reasons for these positive results are that:
(1) the arts help the mind access and develop all the different areas of the brain and personality, and(2) when properly taught, the arts teach profound self-disciplines and self-knowledge: both essential skills for developing a good character.

What St Lucia needs right away is a first-class education system: more disciplined, more challenging, totally comprehensive, and with top-notch teachers throughout - after-school programs AND OUR OWN UNIVERSITY!

Standards, standards, and more standards. We need higher standards IN ALL SPHERES!
Then, and only then will we produce our own good leaders.

Tragically, the real picture is that St Lucians show little interest in education; and without a doubt, it's the thing we need the most to save this island.
