Thank goodness for Taiwan and China who help the country take the steps that the citizens and governments of St Lucia cannot seem to take. For years Information Technology has been on the priority list for scholarships. Many have gone, many have returned and are employed in areas outside of their expertise. No harm done in giving a gentle nudge. Hopefully this will create some jobs for the many computer programmers standed in St Lucia or were forced to leave because of a lack of employment opportunities.
I am no lover of this corrupt government but I applaud this move if there is any truth to it. Better late than never. Indeed Taiwan and China has made some huge contributions to developing St Lucia. Although both made huge mistakes in the method they used to give that aid, we have to be thankful for the aid nevertheless. Tom Chou must learn that he cannot circumvent the constitution. If he or his country honestly want to help St Lucia, they must abide by our laws. No two ways about it.Now he will surely be deported when SLP comes to power but we can/will still work with Taiwan if they are willing to follow our laws!
"Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Senator the Honourable Rudolph Francis spouted that reasons for some of the delays being experience was not necessarily the fault of the staff of the Registry or its system that records were incorrect, but regarded that some of the blame should be placed on the negative implications of the battle of the French and the English as it concerned the origin, spelling and writing of St. Lucian names"
Why is the battle between the French and the English still an issue for this. This was close to 200 years ago. I doubt that anyone is looking for a birth certificate for someone born in the time of the battle between the French and English.

My fellow lucians we talk about taiwan, Do we no of the problem Between Grenada and taiwan, Do we no That taiwan has the Most legislative conflicts in Asia. Whay do they have to Meddle in the affairs of st lucia, Is it because We do not have a leader But a puppet, Can we trust king to go overseas and bring Meaningfull Representation to st lucia, when he allows taiwan and his cabinet members to do what they want and thus shows no balls.
It is still outrageous that people have to pay $50 to have mistakes corrected. Minister Francis it is disgraceful to put the blame where it does not belong, people have had birth certificates before, they go back for another one and now there is a mistake!!! Is it the ghosts of the french and english that are working in the registry, or is it as most know incompetant civil servants?
I Still Have My Birth Certificate/Baptismal Certificate Which I Got From 1974,Which I Used To Migrate To The Us In 1978,Now I have one That It Is No longer Acceptable. How Can I Upgrade To The Current One?
After reading some of the comments: some for the modern change, some who just do not get it, and the others well - show off their sheer ignorance.
This is a welcome change, regardless of who initiated it and see that it is being carried through. It was long over due.
As for the new cost of $50 - this is a much better cost than paying a crook of a lawyer for your pound of flesh. For those who are against the cost; they have no clue of "business". For every process done, there IS A FEE ATTACHED!!! You buy your butter, you pay for your purchase.
One of my family members did not exist, because of how her birth certificate was registered!! AND - she got an ID card!! Go figure!! We have a good laugh at that every time. (Seriously, no politics involved here.)
In short, be thankful for this long over due, and VERY IMPORTANT service. I have seen too many of my family and friends fall victim to an archaic, and sometimes lethal "suicidal", birth & baptismal system which sometimes bordered on the ridiculous!

They've employed a bunch of idiots to run that department. The issues the dept and applicants are experiencing could have been minimized if careful thought and planning was in place.
This is a case of left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. People should never have to pay a lawyer for fixing errors that are not their fault. The gov't should find a way to get the fee waived.
It's a damn shame that now they have to go to a foreign gov't for help. How stupid SLU looks. They probably think you all are a bunch of RETARDS.
Why did the government had to get Taiwan involved in 'Birth Certificate Reform in St.Lucia? Where has the 'Public Sector Reform' that Caribbean Governments had agreed to adopt. I will not be surprised if they discard the assistance they got from Barbados with their Electoral Reform and use Taiwan's system. Is St.Lucia moving away from CARICOM and going full speed ahead with 'TAIWANCOM.' Lucians, where is your pride , where is your Destiny?
I am just so mad about the lawlessness thats is going on registry so meny encorrect birth certificates after the delays still not correct there is no cosiderration anyone if they have the old one why should it be encorrect i living out of st lucia you think it nice after waiting so long you think it nice to get an encorrect birth cert, no i dont think so, and then what to be corrected by a lawyer. i dont think it,s right for anyone to be going through this, and people who live out of st lucia have to go through this come on.

Any solution to remedy this awful, unnecessary and sometimes expensive process is welcomed.
