I live so far away and yet so close to Helen. I believe a Lucian is a Lucian no matter where he or she lives, I also understand that "tears will dry on it's own."
Where-soever we may roam, we shall love our Island home and Her people.

Grieving in Canada.

Through this unfortunate tragedy My Fair Helen is in Mourning. To the bereaved families I pray that all will find refuge in the healing and consoling power of the Holy Spirit. My condolences to you and your loved ones. And to those who have passed I say;“death where is your victory, death where is your sting? “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” May you all rest in peace and see the glory of God.
From what I can gather, while it is true that the road infrastructure and signage needs improvement, along with traffic laws, motor vehicle safety regulations and enforcement, driver education etc....St. Lucians on the whole must learn to accept more responsibilities in the safety and development of the country. In the words of John F. Kennedy in his inaugural address of January 20, 1961 he said "Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country”. St. Lucians unite, be part of the process and be the good Samaritan, show compassion to your fellow brothers and sisters, don't look the other way, It's everyone's business. Government can do so much the rest lies in your hands, let common sense prevail....
That being said, on the hills of the up-coming General Election, Political parties, politicians and campaigners please take heed. Exercise your God given sense of responsibility and constraint. Do not create or cause the divisiveness of the very fabric that you are to build. It is by your choosing that your platforms divide the country and families. Be all law abiding citizens guided by the fundamental life-giving spirituality and unite our Paradise Isle. Avoid the fundamental dis-ease, the unquenchable fire that renders us incapable and undesirable in this life. Instead, will the one thing we are all sent to do on this earth “to love one another”.
To the electorate I say love your fellow brothers and sisters. We can all disagree to agree but not to divide. Embrace one another no matter which colour that he or she wears. May the right hand of God strike at the heart and soul of my Fair Helen for a safe and fair election. God bless.

My sincere prayers and condolences to the families and friends of those 17 lost souls.

I've said it before, I am going to say it again: SOMEONE'S GOTTA BE BLAMED/TAKE RESPONSIBILITES FOR THE USELESS TAKING AWAY OF SEVENTEEN (17) LIVES.

And I blamed the authorities, the government; past and present.

Reasons being for the following:

The tax payers' monies in the tunes of millions (illegally) they gave AWAY to their friends, namely:

1. The UWP paid $80 million (plus) for an old building - a building which is now the home of stray dogs, bats, and vagrants.

2. Paying $1.6 million annually for posh office space for a convicted criminal.

3. Paying over US$3 million to some airline; because the contract was badly written in favour of the US airline.

4. Paid millions for, yes, BOXING IN ST LUCIA, excetera, ect.

The authorities could have prevented this tragedy if they had taken these monies and invest it in the wellbeing and welfare of all St Lucian by doing the following simple things:

a. Installing proper road signs.
b. Installing reflectors
c. Installing guard rails
d. Installing street lamps/lights
e. Maintaining the condition of the roads for proper usage; a case in point, it is over a year since Hurricane Tomas, yet the Barre D'Isle, the Soufriere Roads are TIME BOMBS; just waiting for a few inches of rain or lesss; to witness another 1948, when the Barre D'Isles hills collapsed and killed everyone in the valley.

Bexon, Marc, some place in Babonneau are all time bombs waiting to happened; yet nothing has being done, meanwhile the UWP government collect millions of dollars from local businesss, persons and donor countries to have rehabilitated these roads, etc.

Someone's gotta take responsibilities for this tragic accident, and personally I BLAME THE PAST AND PRESENT GOVERNMENT.

May the Lord forgive me as I digress from his ways, but why did the UWP government build little side walks here and there, little drains here and there and there are time bombs waiting on the roads ? Check out the large gorges from Barde Ille to Dennery.
Now back to the accident location, What happen to the guard rails.
Who is the Road engineer in St. Lucia.
Or which government made out with the guard rail money ?

To the families and friends of the deceased, my thoughts, prayers and condolences to you...May God reach out his blessings to you at this troubled times.

Now...

What was a 14 seater doing carrying 17 people?...(three people could have been alive today if St Lucia was being guided by the rules of law).

"Detoured to pay respect to the family" all good...but the driver, while paying respect to the family, was he drinking?..(it is common practice in St Lucia to drink and drive...no one, especially the authorities, gives a damn).

Was there speed limits to instruct the driver at what speed he should proceed?...(there is ABSOLUTELY NO SPEED limit signs in St Lucia, except by the CCSS, Sir Ira, SDA Academy, Corinth, the Secondary Schools in G Islet - and the speed limit 50 yds from approaching is 30 mph)...Why isn't there speed limits across the island, and, if so, why is it not enforced?

Why are there no guardrails anywhere on the island but the newly built road from Soufriere to Vfort, the New Millinium Road and the "so called" 2 lane highway (another time bomb waiting to happen)?

Why is there so many potholes on the roads, while government ministers, after just been in office less than 5 years, could afford to purchase $2.2 million dollar house/condo, can their ministerial salary service a loan to purchase said house/condo of such monetary magnitude?

Questions, questions, questions...please someone provide answers for the reasons why they allowed the lost of 17 lives. This accident could have been prevented or the loss of lives could have been minimised - but no, we are too busy passing laws to benefit a few ministers like ourselves, renting office space for criminals costing millions, buying old buildings, etc. ect.

Again, my prayers and condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their loved ones.

I agree with you, #9.

Last year, I witnessed a police officer, in full uniform, at mid-day, drinking ALCOHOL in a bar somewhere in Gros Islet. I brought it to his attention that he is not only drinking while on duties (which could result in an accident and or catastrophe), but also disrespecting his uniform. He instructed me to report him, if his drinking was bothered me - which I did.

Reporting him in itself was a conquest to Mt. Everest. I just gave up as the person I was reporting this police office to, was obviously trying to make me look bad to protect his likes.

RULES OF LAW? ST LUCIA? JOKING?

I read the courts charged a young lady $400 for saying the word "chou"...meanwhile, the government of St Lucia was on thier platform saying the word "ti choix en chou..." to sum and sundry - anyone who would listened; grown up or child, fair game!So who is setting what examples? No problems, courts in full agreement,...double standards!

RIP, the deceased.

This situation is truly sad. It is really heart broken. When I began reading the article, I thought that the accident was on the east coast between Bexon and Dennery. But realized that it was not. The St. Lucia Government ought to be blamed for the road conditions in St. Lucia.
Instead of using the moneys to fixed damaged and dangerous roads, little gutterings and side walks are being built in various little communities lately, just to show that something is being done. WAKE UP ST. nLUCIANS AND SMELL THE COFFEE

Since some of you brought politics in, in this hurtful times, I ask you, wasn't it Kenny who built this road and did not put barriers? Please leave politics out, there is a time and place for it, just not now.

Anonymous said...

Blogger number #12...no, the driver 'DETOURED" from the main road (which Kenny Anthony built WIHT GUARD-RAILS) to pay respect to the family. It was, perhaps, John Compton who built it (without guard-rails) - not Kenny Anthony.

I agree with #11, the government's gotta be blamed for allowing the lost of 17 lives.

Of course politics has to be in it; why, if the government was spending the tax payers money wisely for the benefits of all St Lucian, this would have, perhaps, being avoided - the $1.6 million dollars they are paying annually for high class office space for a jail bird, why didnt they use that money instead to intall road signs, reflectors, street lamps, guardrails; etc? Answer that.

Above, you have no class whatsoever.

Anonymous said...

I may have no class, but I think for myself, I do not want the the crumbs from neither Kenny or King, as God has helped me (not in St Lucia) to fish for myself and depend on my merits for survival - not political affiliation.

Anonymous said...

Okay Ya'll, most of you have brought politics into this tragic event. My prayers goes out to the families of the victims of this tragic accident, however, no one has given thought to the possibility of the driver being intoxicated. Everyone knows what people do at wakes in St.Lucia. It' just a big RUM FETE. Imagine driving on an unfamiliar winding road in the dark while intoxicated....Food for thought.

Stop making excuses and blaming the gov't. The gov't wasn't the one behind the wheel. People drive on that road every day for YEARS and this has NEVER happened.

To the blogger who asked why a 14 seater had 17 people on board. Here's your answer dim whit! There were 3 babies who are considered people being held in the mama's arms.

Oh and by the way, Kenny sounded so fake!!!

•Good-night! good-night! as we so oft have saidBeneath this roof at midnight, in the daysThat are no more, and shall no more return.Thou hast but taken up thy lamp and gone to bed;I stay a little longer, as one staysTo cover up the embers that still burn.~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

It is difficult to express my sorrow over this tragedy. Surely we ought o have a day of morning or a moment of silence for those who perished in that accident, particularly the little ones. I hope their families find strength to cope with their loss. Let us all as Saint Lucians rally behind them and console them in this time of their grief.

To Anonymous Poster about the police officer

I agree with you completely. Never before have I seen more drunkards. They sit in bars around the island DRINKING in their uniforms ALL DAY and the police van is parked outside. It is done BLATANTLY. The police officers in SLU have NO Manners and NO respect for anything. You should see the things some of them say on facebook. JUST DISGUSTING.I don't even bother with some of these police officers in St. Lucia because they are WORTHLESS. That police complaints office is a FARCE. Nothing is ever accomplished because there are police officers in St. Lucia who have said that they are above the law. I know of police officers beating their girlfriends and saying to them "who will you tell, I AM the police" That entire force needs a shake up cus some members of the RSLPF are DISGUSTING.

How do St Lucians who lives at home think of the leadership at these crisis verses st lucians who live overseas.
When you travel and have experience a different taste about how development and leadership suppose to be, You Wonder about our fellow st lucians at home and how they percieve Development, and leadership is all about, No wonder sometimes with the nonsence, and foolishness being written, Doesn't that degrade our intelligence.
I Live overseas and to telll you rhe truth, When it comes to leadership and Development This goverment has to go, Like they say King is Not fit nor ready for taking my Beautifull country to the next level.
By the way my heartfelt Condolenses to the families ofthose who died from this trgic accident.
NowHow about the representative who suppose to have look for the peopleand those who venture in his constituency.
Now for some to say that politics should not invovled, I say yes and no. No in that the people needs to be in the right frame of mind and grieve through this time.
Yes in that it points us to Leadership, Promises made Promises broken, Leadership matters in every aspect of life,
The Kind of leader we have will be a reflection of who we are as a nation, and this sends a message all around, Hence the reason why we need to look deeper and realize our destiny, our future,
Hence also why St lucians who travel and live outside of st lucia sees things differently than those who has never.
