It seems to me that the implementation of vat was inevitable and that the sooner the better, in order to secure scraps from these mamoth world financial institutions or else face the consequenses. We had to show our willingness to take responsibity for our own financial affairs. We need to go further by limiting the size of Government there by cutting cost. Vat is here to stay whether we like it or not. By implementing vat we will secure a helping hand . King did not take any measure (VAT or NOT) to protect the people as he claimed.
What did you expect from the insult that Compton left us as a prime minister?
That blasted foreigner Compton, with his fisherfolk mentality ... supreme god of the idiots he populated his ministries with ... elevated his errand boy, his messenger, you know to head a country.
That ignoramus was struggling even to read the rehearsed and prepared speeches made for him to read, time and time again!
Few of us, or the more discerning among us, have had little doubt that he understood ... even half of what he managed to read.
If you are not a powerful economy like the US, and decide to join the WTO, as Mr. Putin's Russia has done ... but only recently, a VAT is in your future.
A VAT is the logical replacement for the fall in revenues stemming from the reduction or elimination of import tariffs, which is a staple and becomes part and parcel of any agreement to join the WTO.
We note that government is seeking to impose this punitive tax on exports and not only on imports.
I wonder whether the goodly minister of finance understands, or has given any consideration regarding the ramifications of choking off our export performance?
A significant fall in foreign exchange earnings can not be very far. Sooner than later, with the level of deficit that now obtains, we will be in the hands of the IMF with a standby arrangement.
How man drinks did that bone head lewis had before he came spewing that garbage? Why do these buffoons still thinks that Saint lucia is infested with morons? Mr Lewis deliberating miss stated the IMF report to suit his political agenda. Just cant wait for the end of this inept generation of kenny and people like lewis
It seems to me that Vaughn Lewis has really taken leave of his brains. He, like Springer, the famous Castries drunk who reads but cannot think, now form a senseless duet for the SLP.I think their songs are way out of tune!
