I will start off by saying that I do agree with the writer, however, as a victim of oppession from our society,I find the reward for my unhappiness as a citizen very fitting. I say this cause for too long have the poor of this country been neglected. If the Government dont provide as they should and creat opertunity, then Everyone should suffer. It is easy to say and even easier to do with the work of god and goodness. I dont think it is fair that lifes are taken and persons are hurt. But if I have to suffer because I am not Wealthy with material, then so let it be. I do pray that the persons committing these hidious crimes Do get a chance to redem their souls and Get a better life style. But if that is what they are limited too. Until we all realize the fact. The fact that we need each other in this coutry and until we help each other no matter the curcumstance.

Let's Not Go There

The person who wrote the last comment should be ashamed of him/her self.

First of all anonymous is obviously an idiot under the impression that he's some kinda visionary. Learn to spell before you try to sound intelligent. Too many St. Lucian are dependent on everybody else to better their situation and make no effort whatsoever in that regard. We all know its hard out there, but you cant expect to sit doing nothing to better yourself and expect things to just happen. You have to make things happen, especially in these times. Stop blaming people for your circumstances and make a concerted effort to change them.

I have a different take on Anon's contribution. Granted he/she could not articulate what he/she wanted to say but I was able to glean a few nuggets of truth in there.

He/she posits that the crime situation we are expericing is the result of years of neglect on the part of succesive governments towards the poor and dispossessed of our socitey.

Like Waterfalls, I am a firm believer in personal responsibility and self advancement but that can be better facilitated by the goverment and non government agencies creating opportunities for education, training, employment, and entrepreneurship.

There are also a few people in our society who believe that government should be the provider of everything, but they are in the minority. The majority of the people of St. Lucia are law abiding, and industrious. They do not need a hand out they need a hand up.
