What are you talking about herb Black is a better artist than all the people you mentioned. These people just start singing, with only a few songs to their name. You must try to get the collection of very great songs that herb black had over the years. All his songs could make it on the international stage. Herb Black could sing both soca and calypso, he won mostly all the crowns in St Lucia last year, three in all, we are proud of him. He writes all his song himself. Jamaica is proud of all their rasta performers, so why not us.

So is Eric Donaldson, but hey, he has a string of great songs to his name. You go Herb!

Too much shallow and negative thinking is really keeping us back in St. Lucia.
We are too caught up in appearance - who pretty, who photogenic, and all that pappyshow and not substance.

Sometimes some of you make me ashamed to be called a St. Lucian.

"If you cannont fond something good to say about somebody, shut the hell up"!!

"It's better to keep your mouth shut and be thought of as a fool, than to open it and put paid to the thought."

Enough!!!!!

"LUCIABOY" I totally agree with you. Lucians like to make every petty thing a problem for them. What's wrong with HERB BLACK? Is it a beauty contest? Why don't you people appreciate what u have and stop complaining about silly things. "ANONYMOUS 1" WHY are u feeling ashame? U should feel ashame of putting that ignorant statement there.... learn to love your people and your country...

I agree with your observation about we Lucians.

Perhaps it is the legacy of slavery that has us hating ourselves as a people (self loathing). If the person is light skinned, belle coolere, have nice coolie hair, have a nice accent from foreign, we like him/her better than the "Herb Blacks".

That is why thess people come to St. Lucia and rip us off, because we trust the foreign born thieves.
Herb Black too local, he too black, he is too country bookie (from Anse-La-Raye).He aint good enough to represent us like that.

We have some hang ups that stand in the way of our progress.

Herb Black is not into totting guns and shooting anyone. He aint weilding knives to maim anyone.
He is quickly becoming a cultral icon.

It was this same lame thinking, and self loathing that cost him the crown when he sang "Calypso Jail" and "One Day's Work".

We were so backward in our thinking: "Can anything good come from Anse-La-Raye. Plasse sepant.

TO ANONYMUS
All his songs could make it on the international stage.

==========================

So why doesn't he make it, after soooo maaaaany years?

Wow.

Because everybody cannot make it on the international stage, for example people with degrees cannot find a job and Stevenson King with a high school education is PM of St Lucia, so it is who gets the break. And also the uppertunity(spelling) one gets. The musical industry is a ticklish one, you must get that break. Look at so many good signers that are coming from American Idol, most of the good singers have been singing in other places like churches or bands before, but they could not make until they got the break on The idol.

Before you, I assume a fellow St Lucian, make such an ignorant remark, please make sure that your English is up to standard. You are the one who is making me, an educated St Lucian, ashamed when I see bad English written on our national paper which can now be seen world wide, thanks to the internet. This remark is directed to Anonymous, July 4th 11:43PM. What is wrong with Herb Black? I am sure that the way you see him is the actual way your personality is and maybe even worse.
