The speech by Mr. Hinkson at the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce Annual meeting indeed deserves much comment.
I also agree with Mr. Josie that there are few politicians (if any)who would be willing to do what it takes to curb the crime situation in St. Lucia.
The only one who I can think of is the former Speaker of the House Sarah Flood Beaubrun who throughout her career was willing to stand up for principle irrespective of the consequences. There are few around with that level of conviction or intestinal fortitide willing to fight for a cause.

On the issue of Mr. Josie's casual remark about the conservative nature of the St. Lucia Chamber following are my comments.

One of the underlying and understated roles of banks and institutions like the Chamber is the stabilizing role they play in the developmental mode. It is significant as it forms a bedrock of stability for any community or society. In the USA the banks removed themselves from that role and with risky gambling almost put the worlds economic system at risk. They strayed aay from their stabilizing role in the financial system.

in that regard the St. Lucia Chamber has been an unseen and underated bedrock of our society.

Aside from that they have been far from conservative in that they have refused to take a proactive role in any conservative issues throughout the years. Either in sociely or economic issues affecting the society. When did you ever hear them say anything about the profligacy of the government in running up a billion dollars national debt or in the ineffectiveness in governments in imporiving our society. As you said they have been the classical rapacious capitalists like the elites of Haiti, just taking their 15% , living in their cacoons and getting their green cards for Canada or the US if things go wrong.

Food for thought.

Chester spoke to the chamber from his heart. His words were manifested in his emotions; it was a patriotic and conscious delivery. It was the "Wish Bowl" that all Lucians would like to acknowledge. Oh, how I wish St. Lucia was free of crime; I wish the government would create some jobs; I wish there was some stability in the economy; I wish the government would be more open (transparent); I wish they would declare their assets upon the oath of office (to determine any criminality in receipt of one million dollars each).
Oh, how I wish some proverbs were never inscribed, such as:
-Lucians, What you reap is what you sow.
-If all wishes were horses, all beggars would ride.
Anyhow, election is around the corner and the foxes have a shrewed way to out-fox and prolong and maintain its prey in a fox-hole.
Save St. Lucia, LABOUR!!!! Say a Prayer, say a prayer.

Josie, what did you do to help curb the criminal activities when you were in power.

Mr Hinkson has not hidden agenda(s), sadly, that cannot be said of you; would you mind just fade further into the background...go away...

I ask you, Josie; what did you do about crime when you were in a position to help curtail it?...

Perhaps you did, but I do not know, please enlightened me, will you.

Your braying week in, week out, will not take you anywhere, as a matter of fact; it makes people to dislike you even more completely and thoroughly than they already are; me being one of those who dislikes you...

St. Lucia changed a lot, but to ask the Government for jobs, is something bad.

Tax concession should be use as leverage an as an incentive to generate economic growth and development and not to increase the bottom line of corporations, for personal gains. The Concession (s) value(s) must be booked by the recipients and re-invested in their business, the economy and the country.
