Changing the Basic Skill-sets of the Workforce

Under LPM, a highly responsive and effective Ministry of HRD would seek to create and promote the necessary skills in the workforce to rapidly respond to the training needs of the workforce. It would as well, aim to supply the ever-changing and evolving skill and knowledge required to maintain and produce a highly competitive workforce.

The overarching objective here is to provide the basis on which local and foreign investors alike can rest assured that our people have the absorptive capacity to rapidly learn new skills and the new technologies associated with their lines of business and to meet their production targets.

All of this will not be done in a vacuum. The objective is to increase the earning and productive capacity of the workforce to meet our overarching national goal, which is, the doubling the national standard of living in 10 years.

Therefore, while the necessary institutional developments and infrastructure will be established, the content of our educational courses will combine and reflect the necessary supportive elements to meet our developmental goals (wealth creation and poverty reduction) synergistically.

Each individual will be accorded the opportunity to learn particularly bundled knowledge and skill sets as an education investment. This is in order to excel individually, and to generate legitimate income streams in relation to his or her abilities.

Our Children are our Tomorrows

"If the children are our tomorrows, then we must make their todays, what ever their abilities or disabilities, more enjoyable by giving them a chance to fulfill their potential, no matter how difficult it is to realize."

It has been said repeatedly by different voices and organizations that the children are our future. We the members of the Lucian People’s Movement wholeheartedly believe this to be true; but we are going to do more than simply echo these words. We are going to demonstrate our commitment to the youth of our country no matter their station in life, and no matter what their abilities or disabilities. We intend to do more that stand on platforms at youth rallies and declare we are committed to the youth of our country only to ignore them when we have the opportunity to help them.

It is in keeping with this conviction we wish to highlight in our opening Youth Spot Light section someone who has given time, money, services and most of all hope to a special sector of our youth population and to a cause that we intend to keep in the headlines of the people conscience and in the lead story of the national newscasts – our children with learning disabilities.

The rewards for such dedication is not fame or fortune, it is simply helping the least of our children to live as normal a life with the daily challenges that confront them.

In our Youth Spotlight we are going to honour Dr. Jacqueline Bird for her indefatigable spirit, her dedication and work with the RISE organization and the people who work untiringly with her to keep that Organization functioning.

LPM IS SIMPLY NOT READY AND EQUIPPED TO DEAL WITH THE ISSUES OF THE TIME. LPM'S MAY BE ACHIEVED IN THE FUTURE ONCE IT IS FULLY ESTABLISHED WITH THE RIGHT LEADERS.
