Very deep article MG. You are on point about the stupidity of those party hacks. What the country needs now is a complete shake up. We need to round up all these so called politicians in the country, and dump them into the ocean. We need a fresh start and if we as St Lucians love our country, we will not be voting recycled politicians and political parties.

Well said Mr. George. Maybe you have been reading my comments over the past 6 months on exactly the same topic.

In one previous blog I noted that at least 95% of our potential voters either do not vote or vote for either the UWP or SLP irrespective of their performance level. As I put it - the SLP will vote for their nominated mop, the UWP will vote for their nominated broomstick !

The media have also been no better.
They have conducted their role in the affairs of this country based on personality not policy or agenda.

Who jump over King, what colour is Chastanet, is Anthony an Anthony or a Barnard. Journaists sprout maypuis and roro as the main arrow of their quiver of journalistic weapons. One particular talk show host thinks that his greatest addition to St. Lucia's development is his ability to find out as much dirt on a person and announce it to the world. For that he is being "Straight Up"!

When will journalists ask politicians pertinent questions and not simple fall all over themselves to report " You know that I know what you know". Politicians in this country are a sorry lot and does not say much for our society.

The SLP failed miserably between 1997 -2006 except for the work of maybe Mario Michell and Sarah Flood Beaubrun yet journalists will not examine why we the citizenry should return a failed Minister of Finance Kenny Anthony, to power.

Why is there not a call for Mario to return? And I say this not as a supporter of the SLP.

This article of yours is a start for better journlism in this country. Ask questions of BOTH the UWP and SLP and show the people that at least one practisioner of the art of journalism has a sense of responsibility.

I would suggest though you clean up the generalizations and watch the language and you could make people take journalism seriously once again.

You won't see the hacks gravitating towards this article. It's too much for them to chew on. LOL

So now what, MG?
What do we do, MG?
Do we shoot ourselves in the head?

From your point of view, Lucians are not capable of deciding (en mass) in making the right choices to administer the affairs of the country and to move Saint Lucia forward.
This reminds me of a bajan joke that ends: "When the state is at rest and the government is foopin the working class, the future of the country bound to be in a mess".

For example, I cannot believe that in the House, it took the government 4years and 2 months to presented 32 amendments to the labour code, some of which were struck down and others made no sense; a child from the Anglican Infant School could do a better job in less than 4 hours, given the opportunity.

These guys are jokers!

And so was and is Kenny! The biggest political joker alive!

In as much as we want to talk about "jokers", then I rather see a big joker that makes me laugh and get results than this current joker who is a clueless clown and has no answer to the country woes.

That person who said the SLP failed miserably between 1997 and 2006, that is 9 years. I want to ask that person to describe the 30 years of the UWP and the current 4 years of the present UWP. I wander if that person is blind, because i cannot imagine how St Lucia would been, without enough schools to get an education for our children, after 30 years of the UWP. When Trinidad has achieved universal university education. SLP provided us with Universal Primary and secondary education.

After 30 years, our mental hospital was like a Pig Pen. We had a Prison also like Pig-style . Most Police Stations were the same way. Our Fire stations were in a deplorable condition. We did not have enough Health Centers, and those we had were in a state of disrepair. All there facilities were not fit for humans to be in much-less to work in. Our main general Hospital was inadequate and out dated. SLP built new facilities in all these areas.

We had no international sporting grounds when most of the other islands, who we all claimed to be better off than, have an international ground, now we have two. We also have a mini stadium in Soufriere and many up graded grounds. Thanks to the SLP

After 30 years our road network was deplorable, now we have two roads which is upgraded to a highways by the SLP, and many roads were also upgraded.

Many hotels and guest house were built or encouraged to be built by the SLP.

SLP had the beach patrol to discourage crime against the tourist, that worked fine. UWP dismantles that as soon as they return to office. Now there is so much crime against the tourist, a cruise ship had to pull out from St Lucia.

The SLP implemented the STEP program to keep the country clean, beautiful and help with the unemployment problem. The UWP stopped the program, now we have the problem of Rat disease in the country. SLP provided employment through a tour guides for the tourist, on resuming office, UWP fired these people.

For crime SLP built the prison, they increased the numbers in the police force, they provided them with more equipment and transports, that is cars and bikes. They built a forensic lab to solve crime. They brought in the British policemen to help. etc. That didi not stop crime but it was work in progress. After 4 years in office the UWP has done nothing. Now crime has escalated out of proportion, they want to look good so they have sent the police, who is shooting on site because election is near.

After 30 years we did not have enough parking for our cars, and enough office space. SLP build a new Car Park and two new office blocks.

I could go on and on, if that person see so much development in just 9 years, and they could say the SLP failed miserable, then i wander if that person have ever lived in St Lucia. We have never seen so much development in St Lucia in our history as we saw in 1997- 2006

The MOST FUNDAMENTAL QUESTION to ask of any of the THREE MAJOR PARTIES contesting the next election is to ask this question: Which party ... on the basis of the programme of action PLANNED ... appears BEST ABLE to put Saint Lucians of ALL ages back to work ... GROW the GDP with the PARTICIPATION OF ALL those seeking employment ... young ... old ... male ... female ... currently unemployed ... and those who cannot find jobs because they have no skills that anyone wants to pay for?

The DEVIL will always finds work for idle hands ... and minds. We see his handiwork in the GRAVEYARD and in GRASS STREET, and we see his handiwork with the DRUG BARONS ... the two-timing charlatans ... the CABINET Cheats... The liars under oath ... and the jailbirds ALL in the current ADMINISTRATION.

Thanks Mr. George for one of the most objective and even-handed piece of writing to grace the pages of ANY of our local media.

Two thumbs up!

What are some advocating? From UWP to SLP and SLP to UWP and UWP to SLP and SLP to UWP and UWp TO SLP and I am getting Dizzy and so is the rest of St Lucia.

Anonymous said...

I could not have said it better. Although I have much more to say. What must happen however, is to allow St. Lucia to get like Haiti, Guyana and Jamaica, and maybe then some good sense might prevail. You mut allow the country to go rock bottom, let the idiots suffer mucho, mucho, and check to see if they got some sense.

I am Lucian but really don'tcare to see it in any great hurry.

We must really stop and think before we go further down the road of stupidity that this administration in particular has placed us.

Some people I must add are making great personal and financial sacrifices in attempting to leave their comfort zones in Canada, the US and the Caribbean striving to give us an alternative to the wreckage that has been the main parties. Will we attempt to give Fair Helen a real chance to move away from a fate and future of economic, political and social disaster like what is now Haiti? Will we escape this impending disaster?

These LPM guys have been saying this from the start. But will St. Lucians listen while there is still time to change course for the better?

Anonymous said...

Alluding to the fact that the LPM supporters are from overseas as though that is the answer is a non starter.
Yes they have something to contribute with their experience overseas but who are they?
Why will they be any different ?
Nothing about their cut and pasting on a computer tells us they have the quality of CHARACTER to be leaders in St. Lucia.
Nothing we have seen about Prudent or McDonald show that they are a cut above the rest.

So far they just seem to be some other Lucians living in Brooklyn , having not achieved anything exceptional who want to be in power in St. Lucia.

They have presented themselves on TV in St. Lucia and McDonald made a fool of himself. He came across as arrogant and simple minded.
Prudent seems like a nice guy but that does not a leader make.

I would honestly like them to be successful and offer something to the mix but it has not happened as yet.
Having been in local politics in the thick of things I can tell you they are a minimal distraction in the local political field except for some blogs on the internet.

What nonsense am I hearing that the UWP is loooking for help from the New York Police Department through the 67th Precinct.

The 67th Precinct is in Flatbush, Brooklyn.

What incompetence for a soverign country to look for law enforcement help at that level.

This is like the St. Vincent Government looking for help from St. Lucia and going to the Dennery Police Station !

What fool in New York is doing this and which incompetent in St. Lucia is listening to that fool and clearly low level operative or incompetent high level official operating at his level of ineptitude.

If you want help from US law enforcement you go to the Ambassador in Barbados , to the State Department and get their advise on whether or not you go to the FBI or CIA or whichever organization.

I cannot beleive this !

The person who spoke about going from UWP to SLP, SLP to UWP etc, etc. I want to ask that person to give us an alternative. He might advocate the LPM, but people will only take a chance with the LPM, because nobody know how will the LPM perform in government. Some people do not even know the LPM. We all know the SLP is a working party, and they will continue to develop the country as they have started. We also know the UWP is a confused, incompetent, corrupt, scandalous party not fit to govern, they have brought our country backwards and have regressed all the development started by the SLP. So far our best option is the SLP.

If our best option is SLP then St Lucia isn't going anywhere. What's wrong with LPM or any other party. Didn't we see Kenny give away free money to foreigners. Did't we see Kenny's arrogance in those years? What is so new about Kenny? Are we about to give the country a BRAND NEW SECOUND HAND? iS THIS WHAT KENNY IS?
