The Value Added Tax

Now that's more like it.

One word for this to sum it all up: DISCIPLINE.

Jamaicans say 'heavy manners'. Modern societies see the value and virtues of the suggested measures.

However, we can generate more sustainable revenue flows, other than by taxing consumer spending or consumption per se.

There is still a great deal of 'dead capital' (idle land) to bring into productive use.

To its credit, the SLP tried, but was met with some resistance. (A sophisticated land-use policy is a prerequisite; and that's where the SLP fell.)

The avoidance of dead capital is what distinguishes the poor nations of the world, from the more affluent ones.

SLP was on the right track here, but didn't stay there for too long, the last time around.

Kudos! A very useful article, indeed!

From the article
"The letter J on licensed vehicles represents 10x10,000=100,000+10,000 =110,000 licensed vehicles on our roads. Assume 50 percent of these vehicles are parked on the Castries City streets for 260 days per year, at $16.00 per day $4.160.00 per year x 55,000 is $228,800,000.00 per annum Of the remaining 50 percent, .Vieux Fort will attract 15, that 16,500 x $4.160.00 = $66,640,000.00. Soufriere 10, that is 11,000 x 4160.00 =$45,760,000.00 per annum."

He is assuming that 110,000 St. Lucian will each pay $4160 a year to park their vehicles. Does anyone really believe that.
