St. Lucians BASICALLY lack political sophistication. They display little or no political savvy other than to attend blokos, get rum and some chicken for a part of a day and suffer the effects of their stupidity for nearly five long years after.
We now need a coalition of the best candidates ... with some coming from abroad even to rescue the country from this abyss that this, idiotic, Ali Baba, drug and gun-toting gang-supported predatory pirates of the UWP.
We need a coalition of independent candidates and the programme and people of the LPM.
Every now and again a great and sensible article is published in the newspapers, and I must agree that this is one of those. Let us hope that the voters all read this and put country before politicians. I would have loved to congratulate the person who wrote this, but sadly I have no clue who that person is.

PS: Sorry my name was supposed to be on this article, but I seemed to have done it wrong...Jeff "Pe'lay" Elva
What a great article, brilliant thought, this is why I will never give up on my country because I know we have great thinkers and we can be innovative.
By now we have dissected the political problems very well, all we have to do is to put a prescription in place and that is to look forward/engineer a coalition government next time around.
I can assure you there will be some credible Independent Candidates making themselves available at the next General Elections. All we have to do is to vote for approximately five or so of them and they will form a Coalition with the better party. From there on the independents will serve as a check and balance to keep the Government honest and stop the haemorrhaging as the Coalition Government will focus on the national interest.
Not everyone has access to computers so we all must start discussing this idea with our friends and colleagues in all nooks and crannies of the country. This could be a powerful movement and will save St. Lucia.
Jeff great thought, I have always known you to be a patriotic St. Lucian. I know there are many people with similar thoughts, all that has to be done is let's keep the ideas flowing and I am sure along the way we will find a way to synchronize for great effect.
The citizens of a country have to be ready to accept potential Members of Parliament on the basis of qualification. Aside from the hardwired tendancy to vote for the party of choice instead of a viable candidate I also think that St. Lucia is confused about right and wrong so are incapable of making correct decisions at this stage of our development.
As a country we have rejected many of the principles that make a civilization great. Indecipline is rampant in St. Lucia, our moral compass is gone, our leaders themselves are no better so have no way of giving directions to our citizens, we worship money instead of any of the values necessary for a great nation.
Not even our upper class or middle class are of any help. Like the upper class of all the islands they only wrap themselves in their monied cocoons and provide no political leadership or even moral leadership. The academic and political class is no better and have offered no solutions since Independence. There is no outrage at the clear breaches of fiscal rules in government or behavious of politicians. It started with the SLP Administration of Dr. Anthony and continues today.
I fully agree with the above blogger's comments. All of st. lucia's mess, commenced with john compton, the faustin affair and the one-man commission of henry giraudy, the un scandal etc. etc.then continued with all the others since compton including vaughn lewis, and kenny anthony. we need a new set of credible independents to create a coalition government in st. lucia. any uwp or slp in its party form, is complete destruction and decadence for st. lucia. we must save st. lucia.
The old parties and the party faithfuls have done their darn best -- they have brought the country to its knees. Gangs, drugs, theft, malfeasance, disrespect for law and order. you name it. They do it. They have done it.
And today, they keep on blaming each other that the other group has done it too. So they are happy to be wrong doers too. Little infants don't offer better arguments than that.
Give them the boot, people. Time for entirely new people who are not beholden to the chastenets, the Butch Stewarts, and the Carascos with Fox 5 -- sorry -- the Star newspaper columns in their corner.
Independents, like Didier, the new LPM people should be sent to parliament. They have no axes to grind, and no need to give jobs to the legal fraternity like Kenny loves to do, as commissions of Inquiries.
Clean out the House people1 Clean up and dress up Fair Helen with new clothes. Let her smile again. Let's give the country renewed hope. Spread the word!
Sorry my friend. Nothing that the LPm has said to date shows that they are anything but the same ole karkie pants.
The LPM are simply operating within the same paradigm. They are simply saying that they will do the same things but are just better stewards. Just like Golding said before he came into power. Just like they said in Antigua, St. Vincent or Dominica when they all came into power.
The LPM also are going to maybe be even worst coming to St. Lucia with their Democratic Yankee solutions that have bankrupted the greatest country on Earth and made African Americans a permanent underclass.
