A token of appreciation to Leon Hess is well overdue

Don't forget Hess did build a wing at the Vieux-Fort Senior Sec, I sat my CXCs there in the 80s.

Leon Hess had done so much for St. Lucia. Although it initially used St. Lucia as leverage against St. Croix when it promised to move it's refineries here. That ploy did not work instead we got storage facilities. Apart from that Hess has fullfilled all his promises and is a pillar on the island. Hess has built several schools and has been actually a good for the country. As the article states St. Lucia needs to show appreciation to Leon Hess.

I wholeheartedly agree. Hess's presence in Saint Lucia is testimony to the resoluteness of Sir John who fought tooth and nail to bring and keep the company here in the face of strong opposition from Odlum. Josie, Hunte, Walcott and Co. After Hurricane Allen wiped out several schools,Hess was the first to respond, building first temporary and then permanent structures. While the promise of a refinery has not materialize, the steady income from throughput charges from oil passing through the terminal and the employment generated during its construction and operation has seen Saint Lucia through some lean times.
