Customer Service or Dis-service - Are we ready for a service based economy?

Your article is a timely one that needs to be shouted loud to all concern. However I must point out that service is not just that of tourism but the general economy which includes government, banking, the supermarket, Castries market etc.
The failure of the politicians, teachers, nurses, preachers, the market vendor to realise we all are part of a service lead economy is a fundamental flaw why we have not seen the need for ensuring our customers are satisfied. We focus on the dollar and cents of the day and not the future repeat business that comes from satisfied customers.
Please do not use Barbados as a bench mark asbfrom mt experience they are no bettervthan what I received in St. Lucia. Look beyond the Caribbean shores if we are to set standards.
I await with baited breath to see if ant politician will seek to champion this idea of high service standards across all sections of the economy in the interest to further development the country and increase the national income.

Better service in the private sector comes from competition and not from the goodness of the heart or because it is something good to do. More than this we have had monopolies from since we were born. Clarkes for drugs. That was taken over by M&C. We all know where that one went.

Supermarkets? Big joke. We had Super Price Gouge without super service.

When it comes to government, since it is a matter of laws and regulations, service is just personal whim. All the government departments are monopolies. You can not go anywhere else for the services they provide. You have a captive (enslaved) customer base. For service, you either take or you leave it. Turnaround merry-go-round is the norm. If you are a business person, of course, with all this foolishness, your costs will go up. Who pays in the final analysis? The consumer of course!
