A tragic event, a lesson for parents to ensure that their children are not left to their own devices. Children are meant to have supervision up to 16 years, or at least as a teenager know where to go if they need support or help.
I heard recently that whilst a mother was busy with a man a few miles away the children were left from the evening before until after lunch the next day, they were 3 and 9 years. Why do women have children if sex is more important than the child, shame on you wicked parents. A St. Lucian mentality sadly that needs a big shift, everything is about sex to the neglect of everything else including your children.

A tragedy indeed. My condolences to the family. I agree to with Mr. Constantine that we should rush to judgement in this matter. I'm sure this family is going through a lot and may need some counseling. This is not to say that I condone any form of child neglect, but sometimes tragic things happen that we never expected.

I became alarmed after hearing the statements made by the opportunistic insensitive sanctimonious minister Alvina Reynolds. This shameless politician demonstrated a total lack of empathy towards the grieving family that experienced the loss of an infant under such tragic circumstances. Instead of rendering assistance to alleviate the suffering on the parents from the accidental drowning of the infant, Alvina embarked on a “Law and Order” rhetoric of punishing parents who “neglect children” - disgraceful show-boating!

Where has she been residing? On Jupiter? Certainly not in Saint Lucia, where abuse of children is a religious obligation(Spare the rod....). If this is the definition of progressive leadership, then this Island is stagnated.

There are warning labels on these containers, buckets and bags that cautions adults about exactly what happened to that infant, WHY? Because this tragedy happens! How many times have I found a child playing with a plastic bag? Or playing hide & seek in the trunk of an abandoner automobile?

This is worst than prostitution!

'Abuse of children is a religious obligation' I hope the author is saying this with tongue in cheek! I am amazed at how religion can be used as a reason to do the most horrendous acts against humanity, and children in particular. Remember the bible was used in South Africa to justify Aparthied, as so often is the case people can manipulate words to get what they want or to justify behaviour, or that its 'gods will', implication being that 'man' does not have the mentality to nmake reasonable choices. If a child is abused it is because people want to abuse children. Sexual abuse on the island is rife because there are very few sexual boundaries; this obssession with sex by most adults here is adopted by children as adults are meant to be the role models. A parent who is so ignorant that they can't work out that their behaviour, or asking their young children to 'wind', calling babies 'sexy', dressing them as mini adults, are abusing those children, then they will go to hell. Wake up St. Lucians.
