Are we crazy?

A fundamental free enterprise operation like the provision of transportation by individuals now has to be subsidized to the tune of $2,000,000.

When will the Labour Party madness stop ?

Belize just reneged on its debt interest payments, Antigua , Grenada and St. Lucia are borrowing for recurrent expenditure and to pay public servants.

Kenny continues his failed borrowing and spending economic policy like a drunken sailor to pretend the economy is doing well and we are giving out taxpayers money and borrowing on the backs of our CHILDREN to pay for bus drivers and Kenny's profligacy ?

When the brown stuff hits the fan we will have to lay off THOUSANDS of civil servants and cut basic services to our citizens because the financial markets will not lend us anything else.

When are we going to get the memo !!!

Anonymous no.1,are you serious? Free enterprise operation? With all the increases in the cost of operation, do you realise that a driver cannot charge more than what is set by GOVERNMENT. The fisherman can sell his fish for whatever price he wants the businness person can increase their prices to meet the increase in the cost of operation. What choice does the bus driver have?

@@ ABOVE SELL HIS FUC5K33ING BUS AND DRINK OUT THE MONEY.

SIT AND SCRASH HIS ASS ALL DAY
KENNY STOP THAT BULL THIS WILL NOT PAY IN 2016 I AM TELLING U THAT MAN.SELL THE B-U-S, THAT IS HIS BEST CHOICE.

There is no business that minibus drivers will set up that will offset operational costs, and Kenny knows that.

If you care to check, minibus drivers are men who have failed at every type of business; they are mostly otherwise unemployable cause
they are unkind, very unrefined, uncultured, usually stupid.

Minibuses are necessary for public transportation, not a personal favour as the drivers seem to think, so Kenny might help the drivers learn that (if they can learn).

But I guess people must be paid 2 million dollars for their votes.

By world standard, bus-fare in St.Lucia is relatively cheap. $2,000,000 in subsidies is cheaper than the government having to operate a fleet of public transportation.
If the government have to buy and operate its own buses, the price tag would be much, much, much more. So thanks to the minibus operators.

Just can't believe this, paying $2,000 000, to bus drivers, this is crazy, is this the only business which needs to subsidised, this business is a self employed business and the government should have no business interfering in its cost management, let the minibus drivers deal with it, if there is no profit, they adjust whatever has to be adjusted, ok, just like all other businesses, please stop subsidising gasoline for the country. Let the country deal with it, private drivers do suffer the consequences of using their own vehicle to work every day as well so why can't it be done, the only way the government should subsidise fuel for public buses is owning public buses, as a result route fares would be cheaper and let the bus drivers have their fares reasonable to charging but controlling the fare justly.

O.k, so the party hacks have their big jobs, carnival got subsidized, mini bus drivers got theirs, when will the educated, qualified unemployed St. Lucians who are willing to work, get jobs? Jobs, jobs, jobs! Where, where, where?

Honestly I have not and never will i support this
Somebody said there is no business the transport
Board can get in to that will subsidize rhe drivers .

Bus driver burns more fuel. Parts & tires are needed
More often than a private transport .. That's a fact
But like any buisness (public tranportation is a buisness)
a driver ought to know what his monthly expenses are , learn to pay himself. Salary , and ensure his cash Inflow Can meet all expenses . They also should know how many buses are needed on a given route where it don't become saturated . That may justbe case here!
The demand for the service is great . But if it flooded like. In standard buisness where the price would have gone down , with too many busse the cash intakes becomes less ..

the bus drivers need to form associations among themselves.. and make that transport system a profit making venture.. i think its worth at least 20 million or more in st lucia.. no joke its that much ..

barbados has had public gov runned buses since 1960 i have heard .so if they can do that 50 yrs ago .. u mean to tell me st lucia still cannot do that in 2012..AMAZING HUH..
its about time the gov do something about paying bus drivers who dont have any ability to come together and solve their own issues.. if they cannot do it then let the gov solve it for them..WE NEED TO COPY BARBADOS TO A SMALL DEGREE.. HAVE BOTH A GOV RUNNED BIG BUSES AND MINIVAN BUSES BY PRIVATE BUS OWNERS.. THE TWO CAN WORK WELL..

i heard slp sent reps to grenada to check out their bus terminal .. cause they re thinking of building a terminal in v fort.. i am not sure where in castries a suitable terminal can be built..perhaps the old queens Lane M&C..area.

it makes so much sense that all buses ends up in v fort..so customers living either on the EAST or WEST coast WILL TAKE A BUS GOING SOUTH TO V FORT .. so there will be no need to have buses going to bexon or dennery or soufriere ..JUST GO TO ONE BUST TERMINAL WHERE ALL THE BUSES ARE IF U GOIGN TO THE SOUTH JUST BOARD A BUS THAT S IT WEST COAST BUSES AND EAST COAST BUSES.. doesnt that make more sense and a faster system of operation ??

The government has done well to subsidize the Minibus Association in lieu of increased bus fares for the traveling taxpayers. Howwver, unless improvements are made in the island's infra-structure - roads, bus-stops, on-board cargo space = for the convenience of travellers, the prospect of increased bus fares should be tabled and a line-item review should be adopted in considering the status of subsidies disbursed to the Minibus Association.
A thing worth doing, is worth doing well, and for the benefit of all parties. Any enhancement in consideration for the Minibus Association must be predicated on the improvement in commute-infrastructure. C'est la verite.
