america has not in recent yrs given an aorta of money to help poor caribbean islands such as ours..i mean just visit the USVI... most of the small islands in the english speaking caribbean have a broader based economy than USVIRGIN ISLANDS.. st lucia is def more developed than USVI... the only advantage they have over us is a couple K MARTS..

America does nt have see the OECS or Caricom worth investing their tax dollars in.. except when it comes to their OWN INTERESTS.. like drug trafficking... CHINA has contributed TONNES OF MONEY in the caribbean in the last 10 yrs than america has done in their last 50 yrs ..thats a FACT... also china has even gone to great lengths in even funding our banks as a share holder even if this allows chinese companies to bid for contracts and projects in the region... its high time america shows a little more concern to us .. and not only give us a few handouts after a severe hurricane..THE CBEAN DIASPORA HAVE DONE ALOT TO CONTRIBUTE TO AMERICA S CULTURE,SOCIAL AND UNDERWAGE EMPLOYMENTS..

Third world countries have always benefit more from the republican administration and their policies

u are right... i wanted to mention that in my long comment.. but felt like although we benefit more when a republican president is in power.. we in the caribbean can not tell or see the dif in my opinion.. i may be wrong so this is not to be taken at face value.. " i heard in the 08 presidential..campaign Obama indicated to the caribbean diaspora.. that if he gets elected he will wipe off ALL DEBTS or SOME .. owed to the UNITED STATES ..BY CARICOM COUNTRIES.. WE STILL WAITING " understandably i must admit ..that no one saw the global recession coming so i will give Obama a pass on his campaign promise ... maybe he can atleast promise a 2nd time around and hold to it this time.. RIGHT ?

Obama's hands are tied with a republican majority in congress and a not too supportive democratic party (don't ask me why). Make your own guess. He has attempted to be bypartisan in his policies and therefore bent backwards to suit the republican agender instead of his own. I hope he is not as Harry Belafonfe had described Collin Powel when he served under Bush. I have a feeling he might go his own way and use his power to pursue his own agenda in a second term since he will have nothing to lose which might benefit Africa and the Caribbean.

a whole article to come and say that despite who wins, St. luica does not stand to benefit. wow! but thanks for the recap on what has been on news every night!

ask yourself, 'why do 3 world contries NEED to rely on assistance like that?' and 'what would our society be like if we never depended on them in the first place?'

We would be considered primitive, but we would be so advanced on many other fronts. We don;t need them st. lucia!!

Looks like the caribbean is between a rock and a hard place.Under the Clinton administration, the banana industry got sabotaged. And, imagin, the republicans wanted to add a non financial foreign aid resolution to their platform at the convention. Of course this absurd resolution was withdrawn, when it was pointed out that the US does not always have the capacity to provide aid in goods and services; for example:HIV/AIDS vacines, which are supplied by Gremany to Africa. The Caribbean has to from alliances elsewhere in the world. It is globalization time, isn't it?

we have more to gain from latin america esp countries like CUBA,VENEZUELA..for now... these two countries are really supportive of our islands.. that is a FACT !!

did our media be it television or print media chose to highlight or give recognition to CHAVEZ or CASTRO when these men come up for elections or if mr. Fidel is ill do we make it a point of concern as we should.. I AM VERY HAPPY THAT CHAVEZ WON AGAIN.. WE ALL WILL BENEFIT I ONLY WISH CARIBBEAN islands stop giving priority to certain countries that hardly ever gives them anything.. not that we should be getting handouts every decade..but we are still developing and we do help boost economies small as it is in those wealthy countries..most times accepting low paying wages.. much like the mexicans who are tremendously hard working latino ppl ... and they are over worked in america and elsewhere ..we are no dif to them..caribbean wake up OK!!

We are hardly recgnised because we are not in their best INTEREST except for the few with natural resources. It's a give and take world out there.
