The fault and the blame must be laid to rest at feet of the VAT implementation process and the various actors involved.

Government has shown an uncanny indifference and insouciance regarding the impact of the process on consumers.

The degree of callousness and ignorance on display is astounding -- to put it very mildly and very charitably.

There was a lot of hot air about the time table and the readiness for VAT implementation.

That we were not ready is obvious and that in addition, the population was deliberately being lied to by some parties.

We could have taken the time to study the various roll-out steps taken by the better introductions made around the region. We did not.

It is highly irresponsible, displaying a total abdication of duty, accompanied by indiscipline on the part of the VAT implementation group, and also highlighting a singular lack of leadership skills on the part of the political directorate.
