STRIKE!

Mary Issac's immaturity in Trade Union matters is showing, and she is being led to the slaughter by some elements in the CSA.
Mary Issac should lead the CSA, not the CSA leading her into making a Human Resources blunder. She should provide leadership on the current issue, and not succumb to emotions.
The fact is, the CSA have endured the hard times cushioned by a 14+% increase in salary. The trimester is practically over and everyone is surviving--any reward for this feat should be appreciated and the union can look forward to securing a better pay for the coming trimester.
Mary Issac hinting at 'putting a spoke' in the wheels of the other unions who have seen the logic in moving forward, is bad for the TUF and is hastening the death of the TUF.
Now I see the wisdom in Tyrone not wanting to join the TUF.

Now how in the world can this be good for the country. I am not a civil servant and I would gladly accept a 4% increase at this time.

Liar!

Now is the time to bring in the near 40 per cent unemployed. They can learn much of the work of those on strke in just ONE to TWO WEEKS.

It is not too much to ask the non-striking public to wait for just two weeks to get back to a state of normalcy.

After all, it is CSA which decided to inconvenience the general public and NOT the government.

The government should have anticipated the move taken by the CSA and have an alternative plan of action is place to quell the effects of such action and remain a functioning government. I hope this plan of action would come back to bite the striking members of the CSA. It is time to start hiring the 40% of unemployed.

Yeah yeah yeah . Compton could not do it but Kenny can ? I am here to see that.
Stay here and talk crap and imagine how government can operate with pulling citizens from the streets to carry important responsibilities that they are not train for.

How can a government play corky when half of the people in te country did not vote for them. Aren't you afraid of a snow ball effect? if I was Kenny, with Vat unpopular among the people , very few jobs and countless problems facing the country I would try to quel this thing very quickly with coming across as corky .

TOO MUCH POLITRICKS.
COST OF LIVING HAS GONE UP AND CONTINUES TO GO UP YOU SIMPLY CAN NOT EXPECT THE SERVICE NOT TO WANT MORE MONEY.
I ACCEPT TIMES ARE HARD HOWEVER MARY SAID IT QUITE RIGHTLY. DROP THE BAGGAGE AND PAY YOUR WORKERS MORE.
POLITRICKS.
MORE MONEY PAID TO THE WORKERS BY GOVERNMENT MORE THEY WILL GET BACK AS NO ONE ESCAPES VAT.
ALL THE POSTURING IS NOT GOOD FOR ST.LUCIA BUT I GUESS ITS A WAY TO GET APPROVAL FOR THE 30% INCREASE TO PARLIAMENT. HMMMMMM.
COMING SOON.

Lesson to be learned, did kenny forget that negotiation with the unions is a continuous process irrespective of which government is in power? If things are soo bad in this country why do we have so many counslates and consultant and so many unnecessary appointments? Wouldn't it be a good place to start to show the workers that the country cannot afford at this time to give them what they are asking? Wasn't Kenny the one demonstrating with the same unions when he was in opposition? (Just asking) you see you can fool the people sometime but you can't fool all of the people all the!! What's sweet in goat mouth is sour in the bambam!!!

Its for all your double standards the lord is making yall pay in smart ways. ungrateful morons. History will show or maybe its already showing that King was a better manager than Kenny and i do believe if he had a good core of ministers around him he would have done even better. Better Days are here and it is here to stay. Kenny Ka decambwalay zot soucere kon zot yay

Who gives a damn about Jamaica. Is that a country one can cite as a model? Shame. Jamaica was destroyed by CORRUPTION. The top Senior Public Officials tell you this openly.

Can St. Kitts be any model? Jokers. Kenny and Company. If his Cabinet colleagues were worth anything; the state of affairs brought about by their leader Kenny Anthony; would have propmted them to do exactly like what the Cabinet Ministers did to the Prime Minister Denzil Douglas; they have written to the Governor General indicating that they have no confidence in that Prime Minister.

Anonymous said...

Joker; don't reference Tyrone Maynard. Who the hell is he? An opportunist with multiple agendas. His high-rise apartment building is taking care of his expenses, so he not a damn about any union members. His service as Director at the National Insurance Scheme served him extremely well. So he ain't need no union members.

You fools are just that. Political fools living in a fool's paradise. All singing for their supper. No Principles or values matter. Just as long as their can lick ASS. That's all that matters to those idiots.

The Public Servants saw the NEARLY FORTY THOUSAND DOLLARS TAKEN BY KENNY ANTHONY TO PAY THE POLITICAL APPOINTEE'S MEDICAL EXPENSES IN MARTINIQUE; AND THEY ALSO SAW THE TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND SPENT ON ONE POLICE OFFICER BY STEPHENSON KING; AND THEY KNOW EXACTLY what is going on in the Government; and STRIKE THEY MUST to save the Country from further corruption.

What is the criteria for a civil servant to be helped by the Government.

If the Press Secretary Jadia Jn. Pierre earns eight thousand dollars; plus PER MONTH nearly the same salary as a PERMANENT SECRETARY why does she not her personal insurance for health and sickness.

And worst; the woman appointment is PURELY POLITICAL. So if Kenny can approve such payment from the Government Treasury for HER, JADIA JN.PIERRE. It tells St. Lucians just the kind of don't give one damn Kenny Anthony is; at the expense of our Country.

More than that; he has absolutely no shame; to refer to Stephenson King paying two hundred thousand for one Police Officer; so he thought he could pay for Jadia Jn. Pierre. Do you see the kind of thinking we are exposed to? Do you see the level at which Kenny Anthony is operating ?

Isn't this sad? Bombastic old rat. He came to the electorate saying he will do better than King. But it turns out that we cannot now deduce which is the worst of the two.

Why did he not find it fitting if he found it to be wrong to expose King to the Public. That's our money these scoundrels are "screwing around with".

KENNY ANTHONY WILL HAVE TO GO; SOONER RATHER THAN LATER.

If Kenny dares to increase Parliamentarians salaries there must be riots in St. Lucia.

It is they who come to our doors like DOGS BEGGING US TO VOTE THEM into PUBLIC OFFICE.

So they really should be paid a stipend. Why keep begging us to vote for them.

That should tell us a hell of a lot.

Yes, blogger above I agree. What is sweet in the GOAT's [Kenny Anthony's mouth];

is SOUR in its [Kenny Anthony's] BACKSIDE.

Everyone between the Government and Civil Servants will suffer in these tough global times, and that's 95% of the population...it is so sad.
Perhaps we should give the Island back to England because our little experiment has failed, we are not fit to govern our selves.

Anonymous said...

Even if I agree with your comment up there it does not mean that I don't see the hypocrisy and self serving nature of your comment.

Economically it was rough under flambeau and still is rough under Labour. Think we should not have thought of that when we initiated politics into the 14.5 percent raise.

I wonder if you agreed back then that we should give the country back to England?

England don't have any need for us. Perhaps your time would be better served to love your country before your party.

Anonymous said...

It is time to bring STEP to the CSA.

Anonymous said...

Truth is I'm independent and as history shows, both parties have failed to govern, failed the people and failed the Country over and over again.
I have deduced that there is no one in Saint Lucia qualified enough to govern in a modern world, to move us forward. We're just spinning around and around like a dog trying to catch it's tail.

Anonymous said...

...we also recycle our politicians because we can't find better ones.

I have lived, for the past 35 years, in what many would consider the richest country in the world; and I just received my annual increase: 35 cents more per hour.
Nothing close to a 9.5% increase; yet, no one is talking strike over here.

Anonymous said...

Let us see who will have the last laugh. I do hope the government prevails.

Precisely. What an insight! I wish more and more of us would see it that way. That is the-e-e problem!

Not even Compton had the acumen. Vaughn Lewis appeared to be able to digest the facts. His personal habits got in the way.

The vote getters can win elections. To lead us out of our poverty trap, they have not a clue how. So again and again they STEP step into it, piss in our eyes and call it rain.

ST.LUCIA IS JUST THAT ST.LUCIANS MATTERS

WHY REFERENCE JAMAICA,ST.KITTS ETC ETC. OUR ST LUCIA SITUATION RELATES TO THINGS HERE.

POLITRICKS.YOU CAN FOOL PEOPLE SOME OF THE TIME.

BIG UP MARY AND HER TEAM DONT LET NO ONE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU.

ITS SAD IT HAS TO GO THIS WAY BUT IT SIMPLY CAN NOT BE BUSINESS AS USUAL.

IF THINGS ARE ROUGH THEY NEED TO BE ROUGH FOR ALL NOT ONLY FOR THE POOR MAN.

PLEASE DO AS I SAY BUT NOT AS I DO.

MY NEXT MEDICAL BILL I WILL SEND TO THE GOVERNMENT. YOU MEAN WITH A SALARY OF MORE THAN $8000.00 YOU CAN NOT PAY YOUR BILL.?

WHAT NEXT ?

Anonymous said...

Let's understand the fundamental difference of payment of Jadia's medical bills and police officers who got injured while on duty. In Jadia's appointment letter it may would state: "housing and MEDICAL expenses are not covered" by the government. (I challenge anyone to prove otherwise... except if a corrupt scamp decides to doctor a letter and masquerade). But, on the other hand, by the nature of their work, police officers' medical bills are paid by the State as mandated in the ordinance and contract of service. It also does not matter if the medical treatment is available locally and/or overseas. Government was misusing state fund in Jadia's case.

Anonymous said...

With respect to Government paying any individual's medical bills, this should be clearly enunciated in the new Labour Code or other appropriate forum. It should indicate whether the "employer" is liable for the payment of an employee's medical bills while on or off duty. This should be properly spelled out. In this way, the entire nation and labour force as well as employees would be adequately guided and not await the whim or fancy of an employer. (Government is an employer).

I am really and truly getting tired and sick of the stance taken up by the CSA. This is not a case between the Government and the CSA. It is a situation where the country is currently incapable of meeting the demands of a particular sector of its work force.

Just think of the thousands of retired public servants - those who worked tirelessly and selflessly to build this nation - who have not received an incease of their pension over the years. They too have to pay and meet the several cost of living increases over the past many years. Is any one thinking of them? The increase to cost of living is not just to civil servants but to all of us St. Lucians. If the country succumbs to their request, every St. Lucian should receive similar increses in their salaries/wages. Can the country afford this? For once, CSA members, let's be realistic and pragmatic if you won't be consciencious.

How often or when have we ever seen Civil Servants become more punctual or productive at work after a wage increase? Please don't get me wrong, there are still a few hard working, punctual and consciencious CSA members out there.

In my opinion it is high time that one's wages be not increased across the board after negotiations but be determined upon his/her performance appraisal which should be conducted regularly by an independent private body.

Anonymous said...

But if a numbskull can become a multimillionaire by just being able to vote, don't you think that those who must teach him and tell him what to say so that he can look and sound good must get better paid for this level and type of prostitution?

Anonymous said...

Saint Lucia...34 yrs of ill-governing and LPM also want a piece of the action.
Like I said, my solution to the incompetence (all governments past, present and wannabe) is to just throw in the towel and give Her back to England cuz we're fed-up with mediocrity. BTW, CSA seems to be the party in charge of Saint Lucia as they're holding Her hostage. Heaven help us!!!!

Anonymous said...

Strike! Strike! Strike! Strike! Strike for 16%.

It is about time that we give much more convincing evidence of the bunch of idiots we have in our high places.

John said...

Said it thousand times. Why are Lucian public workers entitled to these increases when ALL governments are tightening their belts. YOU ARE A NATION OF IGNORANT FOOLS. Stop pretending there is a magic money tree. You don't export any goods to pay for the borrowing to keep you afloat. Cut govt expenses and stop giving important jobs to your chums. You are now a laughing stock - cant even pay 35k for the UN votes. Do us all a favour - stay in st Lucia and don't travel to Canada/US//UK. Sort your own problems out.

After all is said and done, the government should organize an internship program to train the unemployed qualified secondary school graduates to do work carried out by essential civil servants so that they can substitute or replace strinking or unproductive civil servants in the future. Iam just sick and tired of them playing the stricking game for ransom. The government should always have a plan B in times like these. The country should not be held hostage at the tax payers' expense.

Anonymous said...

We are a third world country trying to be a first world county.we don't produce anything and import everything. Who or what will have to be taxed to pay for wage increases?

Anonymous said...

Look at the Cyprus case. You can still have a section of your tax return to show with supporting documents where your bank accounts are held. If you don't declare their can be a cell waiting for you at Bordelais.

Guyana converted FX accounts. The list of recapture is growing. Two can play at the same game. Only that government has the power to sit you in a jail cell. Sauve qui peux.

The CSA shouldn't do what our Martiniquais cousins did a couple years ago, because they have France but we only have ourselves. No one will come and bail us out of a financial crisis.

Typical Civil Servant Work Day

9am - Walks into office after dropping kids off at school.
- Chats with co-workers until 9:30am
10am - Leaves office in search of dahl or float and cheese.
- Returns 20 minutes later and munches for another 15 minutes.
12pm - Leaves office in search of lunch.
1:30pm - Returns to office (add a half-hour if immediate supervisor is on vacation.)
2:30pm - Leaves office to pick up kids from school.
3pm - Returns to office.
4pm - Calls it quits and packs up.

*Repeat daily for minimum results.*

Public Servants should realise that they can no longer hold a country to ransom. The fast pace of technology will soon put half or more of them out of a job. Public Sector reform is urgently required and as soon as this is over the government should begin the process. That "entitlement" and "job for life" nonsense MUST stop. The laziest bunch of workers in the country being led by a one eyed queen who is more interested in sprewing emotions and ranting for her own personal reasons have a bunch of Jim Jones followers rallying with her. At the end of the day, I am hoping that good sense will prevail and the Civil Servants will realise what a collossal error they have made

Come on! We need to know where to cut the slack. The dead wood. We might well be able to do without anybody who goes on strike.

Intimidation will not work. I don't agree to them striking but I won't support any political intimidation.

I will pay the UN, OAS, and all other organizational dues but the government needs to fire all every single person on strike... check will be gifted as soon as i see action.

As a visitor to St. Lucia (third time), this came as a shock and I only found out when a very important FedEx package of some crucial items I left at home before I left for my trip did not arrive and I got a notice of a "delivery exception." In trying to find out what happened, I called FedEx who said that the delivery failed because of a strike.

Now I am a union man, myself, and I believe in collective bargaining and strong unions; however, when a strike can cause harm to yourself (by harming your principal industry, tourism), then the strikers have to bear that in mind and retain at least skeletal crews to make sure that important items get through. This is very bad, but could have been (and may be for others) much worse... what if I had been waiting for life-or-death medicine? Who knows what is being held up? YES, take your action; YES, protest and do work slow-downs; but do not create havoc for that portion of your economy that allows your country to grown and thrive.

In solidarity, but very, very concerned. My visit (and indeed, my life for the next several months trying to get everything straightened out) may be ruined and I will be MUCH less likely to return, never mind conduct any business here.

Anonymous said...

Yes, I agree with you blogger above this comment. I support the strike but Customs should maintain skeletal staff to take care of emergencies like key fedex messages from the banks, doctors and so forth.

Anonymous said...

Some Customs officers have it made; paid overtime and even gratis meals. Tardiness, under/overstaffing and task duplication tend to be overlooked when you're at their mercy. Ask the businesspeople in the know whose bottomlines are being gutted monthly by this brat of an entity.

Anonymous said...

Computerize every shit in Customs. Automate everything. Freeze hiring for 5 years!

Anonymous said...

Mr. Prime Minister, call a 90-DAY limited state of emergency. Do rapid training especially for all the revenue collection agencies.

Head each one of those by a senior but trusted law enforcement person or reserve.

Move to automate all revenue collection as fast as possible and as far as practicable.

We the people will all have no other choice but to settle down in about THREE WEEKS TIME to adjust to 'the new norm'.

Extend the limited state of emergency to a further 90 DAYS, if more RAPID training is required.

It is a beaucracy that we are dealing with. Unless critical files are hidden or destroyed, the way to proceed is all there in those files for reference. The precedence is all there starting from the 1948 Castries fire.

Please don't have this country face the prospect of ever having to follow in the footsteps seemingly being led by Cyprus today.

Way to go!

On t.v last night, one lady said she went to a gov't department where some employees were involved in the stike and got her business done a lot faster than before the strike. That says it all. The civil service is bloated!

Anonymous said...

The civil service mentality is to make it harder to get service so as to keep their extra numbers up.

Now we can clearly see the top-heavy and bloated numbers regarding staffing of government departments.

Thanks to the strike an important truth has come home with the HUGE shock that we have unnecessarily large numbers of screw-up rodents stealing from the public purse and giving us nothing back in return.

See why the very large recurrent expenditure can and needs to be seriously and immediately truncated and severed permanently. Cut the waste!
