Another Life Another March

Vote more of our talented and accomplished women into office. That is a useful start. Our village rams elected to office are just seeking to retain and reinforce the status quo and the status of women in the society.

See what happened in the UWP lately? These blokes in there are supposed to rebuild the shambles called a party, cleaning after its goons and thieves and all these reprobates that formed the last government and cabinet.

Yet, they consciously voted a regional reject, a marketing failure and loose cannon on the bridge in Soufriere, above a PhD. That idiot is out to sea on the matter of constitutional matters and parliamentary democracy.

This failure was given the nod over a woman with a higher level of academic standing, and someone more representative of the make-up of the population.

Our women must DEMAND higher standards of moral behaviour from our males. It is time to put a stop to the acceptance of the practice of males having at least FIVE women all at once, to prove their manhood.

Our women need to stop the acceptance of our men viewing them only as sex objects to score points on how many times, places and positions. Saint Lucians are behaving as if we are in the wild like bonobos.

@ ABOVE WHERE politics come into the picture???

if you want to stop the men from having 5----8 woman, the woman must stop coming into heat or into propagation season around carnival time.

I am a father/ grandfather /great grandfather. I do love my children very much.
where are the fathers at a time like this?
if the women of this country want to stop this nightmare all there have to do is stay at home don't go to work and close the "PU+++SS+y+HO+++**LE" from husbands/boyfriends. and demand that the government start to hung those " MOTHER "F'--CERS: by they balls.
enough is enough we all lucians should come together with one voice and take the law into our own hands. scrub this island clean from all gangs, drug, rapist, murders etc.

OK. The politics: Saying something in public, for public consumption but hiding your true intentions.

Reread the last statement. This describes the basic and common behaviour of most politicians.

This is lost on the most vulnerable in society and ironically, the most gullible in any polity. Saint Lucia, in this regard is not unique.

Then, there is the role of mentoring. This is perhaps the most ill-recognized factor in the development of women everywhere around the world. Saint Lucia, again is not unique.

To put it as simply and as clearly as I can, here it comes:

Unless and until, there is a critical mass of women in the hierarchy of this society -- in all areas -- that will act as role models, share their experiences and act as coaches for the up and coming females, then our women will continue to be relegated to the lower strata of society, regarded as, and reduced to second class citizens.

Males -- generally -- will not help women up, or out to get to the top in most organizations and societies. Reread.

This in part, explains why Dr. Rigobert was not even considered as being worthy of the leadership of the UWP.

Think before your emotions get the best of you.

Up to now, few have seen any benefit in bringing to the forefront, the need to bring in more women -- and not just as tokens, as seems to be the case in the SLP -- but as recognized leaders.

Historically and coming into the 21st century, we have had, Catherine the Great of Russia, Elizabeth (no one wishes to raise just moral issues here), Indira Gandhi, and Angela Merkel gets the nod for some people, just to name a few in the political arena.

The morass that the UWP is now facing regarding scrubbing clean the image of that party, they had a viable candidate and opportunity to rebuild the party with a person not carrying all that past UWP Cabinet and government political baggage.

Beyond being a failure at the regional level, not being able to rescue Air Jamaica plus being rejected twice, once, for what some consider a largely regional ceremonial post, and secondly, in the recent elections domestically, instead, they opted for a very polarizing and very divisive figure.

The marches are fine, but what are we doing so we don't have to keep having these marches? After the march everything goes back to normal till the next homicide of our bright and talented young people.

What are we doing in the schools to promote conflict resolution? What are the churches doing other thna telling us who will go to hell? Where are the mentors for our young people? Everyone has gotten so materialistic, everyone checking for themselves. I won't even get into the politics of this whole thing. This place sucks!

Except for borbol, scam, and the like, where they laugh all the way to the bank, the UWP is a party of losers. To reinforce that, they just selected an international, regional and local loser as their party leader. In so doing, UWP simply got ... the best leader that money can buy.

Women will have to stop being fearful and learn to defend and protect themselves by any means necessary. Sisters will have to start banding together to protect themselves against these heartless individuals and everybody will have to start looking out for each other. While vigilante justice may not be the way forward, it is time for women to put aside fear and start becoming more aggressive when it comes to protecting their own lives and each other. Stop teaching our girls to fear these hooligans...inculcate a spirit of fearlessness and let them stand up and be ready to defend themselves whenever necessary. Another thing is that people need to learn to run to the rescue of others in distress. We need to be aware of our surroundings and who comes into our neighbourhoods. The police cannot be everywhere, but there are always people who know the perpetrators of these crimes. Somebody saw who entered that house and may know who killed that young lady and they need to speak up. There is actually an anonymous police hotline. Please do the correct thing and get that monster off the streets. St Lucia is way too small for such heinous crimes to go unsolved.

Women are now going into combat in different parts of the world. Women have to be therefore their own saviours. They have to help themselves and each other to make it in a male-dominated culture.

Male domination will not allow some males to go the extra mile to protect you if they think like the perpetrators. For many, women are just objects to be subjugated and exploited in whichever way that is possible. It is hard. But true gender equality, in all senses of the word, will not be given on a platter. It has to be won.

Apart from anonymous at Sept. 21, 5:30PM, all the other blogs are nonsense. As for the women-rulers solution, notice that all the recent woman rulers have been warmongers too, e.g., Golda Meir, M. Thatcher, I. Gandhi, etc., and as for those mentioned above, Elizabeth Ist and Catherine the Great (a big-time sexual pervert-plus), both these queens were warmongers too. People read your history books before spouting anymore nonsense! Wars come out of the state of people’s hearts and souls – all of us! The reason for this extraordinary fall of human morality is due to multiple reasons. For example, worldly materialism, big business and its corrupt politicians, greed and jealousy everywhere, too much social competitiveness, too much inequality between the rich and the poor, media brainwashing with immoral values, lack of moral parental supervision, schools and teachers not allowed to teach values and discipline students adequately – THE LIST IS LONG and EVERYONE is to blame! Moreover, the “head of the fish is rotten” i.e., all the ruling powers at the top of all our social structures throughout the Caribbean - and the entire world as well – no longer possess any TRUE MORAL VALUES and ALL set ROTTEN VALUES. In short, this problem would have to be addressed at all levels and in all places before any real changes could ever be possible.

How profound a piece of commentary that is! Wow! How deep! In other words, the solution to all of the world's problem is simply to drop dead.

What about Marcia Jules and the lady from Dominica who lived at Reduit Park and worked at Price Waterhouse Coopers?

Two cold cases?
