Help with these smaller projects is good but St Lucia particularly needs help with its big money-earning projects such as the HIA improvements, the Castries improvement project, the Soufriere Geothermal-energy project, and now the upcoming construction of the projected north-south East Coast Highway. These are desperately needed for stimulating REAL major development throughout the island which in turn would create REAL job-growth throughout the island.

Iris good. BUT over 70% of our economy depends on tourism. Due to the world crisis people have far lees to spend, especially the British. Airfares are too expensive from Europe, local prices in supermarkets, hotels and restaurants are too expensive. Piles of houses are for sale in the North. Very few buyers if any! St. Lucia is the largest economy of the ECS. We have to look for real trading opportunities within our region. We do not have to focus and Cuba and Venezuela. Focus on Panama!!!! Most of the products we buy from S&S and Hobies are being imported from Panama. A booming country with 4% unemployment.

The East Coast freeway from Cas en Bas southward will be the most important infrastructural improvement St Lucia has seen in many years because it will make communication flow all around the island as it has never done before: good roads are still among the most important infrastructural requirements for rapidly expanding a country’s economy. The Cas en Bas Highway will make it possible to close down George Charles Airport and make Hewanorra’s redevelopment both feasible and profitable; stimulating more tourism growth while attracting many more businesses (local and international) to St Lucia’s shores. Building the ROAD first is someone’s brilliant idea – BRAVO to whoever made that decision! I, for one, hope nothing stops this project from forging straight ahead!!
