Once you clearly explain and it is understood, that a formal business plan is a flexible road map (and not a destination in of or itself), that enables one (in your own personal life and as a manager) to take care of internal and external environmental uncertainty, and especially the "O" or opportunities in your SWOT analysis (your strategic planning), almost all of the misconceptions and controversies tend to disappear.
