Clean up Castries and St Lucia. It is about time. This is 2009 and certain conditions in St Lucia mirrors 100 years ago and more. I watched all the news on HTS video and was speechless of the garbage in our waters and the land.
I know everyone needs a place to live and prosper, however rules and regulations must be maintained because it creates discipline and order for all.

The Development Control Authority should have been monitoring these situations and others from the very start of their violation to prevent it from happening. That's typical St Lucia these days not like the great and able St Lucia of the past.

Why isn’t there a “functioning bus terminal for all at the useless Gardens, and to make it mandatory that these minibus drivers follow the law?

Why have “minibuses taken all the parking spaces in the city of Castries leaving business people and business without parking?

Why don’t the government build another parking lot at the old “banana growers association building in the heart of Castries to relieve the congestion of an out of control city?

Why did the government sell the people’s heritage of Columbus Square/ Derek Walcott for parking spaces to those of privilege instead of general parking with meters to create revenue?

Why aren’t there any parking meters through out Castries for greater revenue? There are certainly other means and ways to create revenue for Castries and St Lucia just like thousands of civilized and prosperous countries.

Why do all these patrolling policewomen and men who are rude, lazy, indifferent and without any ambassadorship qualities loitering through out the city giving out parking tickets that are never paid because of the mind boggling incompetence of the government? These officers treat the public like trash because they feel that they have the power regarding unavailable parking due to a saturation of undisciplined minibus drivers. These officers who display rude and overbearing tendencies are totally unaware that tourism comes in all colours, status, shapes and sizes.

These officers do very little or nothing to protect the public, curb crime or apprehend criminals who threatens the survival of Castries and the nation as a whole.
The government must make all motorists pay their fines otherwise lose their driving privileges. The same goes for small and large businesses to pay their taxes.
All citizens must pay their income tax under the law (what law?) if it is corrupt and inadequate.
The government should not be giving tax concessions to foreign companies who pay no taxes through out their tenure and changes ownership just before their contract becomes due in order to rob the nation.
All of my observations are absolutely warranted because they can be easily implemented with care and logical thought.

However, the government and the people must change their ways and attitude this millennium for the greater good of the nation.

All governments till now have allowed those ghettos to grow.

Now they looking to clean these places up???. How can you have a ghetto called conway a stones throw away from where the Government buildings and places the tourist visit daily?. How can we have 60 plus year old CDC buildings cracking, not stable, smelling of pee, drug invested, crime invested in the middle of a Countries Capital.... Only in St. Lucia yes. where are the building codes?. You can build a building as wide and as long as you want it doesn't matter. Most countries with limited space have laws that say you have to build higher instead of wider, not in St. Lucia.

It's no wonder St Lucia ranks second in poverty after Haiti. It is more than the poverty, it is also the lifestyle,NASTY.Shame on the LAZY governments (all of them past and present). They would not tolerate such FILTH in their own backyards.Wake up St Lucia, this is 2009, for God's sake.

It was time for the government to clean Conway. There are other places like the CDC that needs to be cleaned too!!!!

It is amazing that in this 21st century, St Lucia's laws and law enforcement are 50 plus years backward!!

The "structures" along the Darling and the old "basketball court" should never have been allowed - PERIOD!!

It is always after the fact, that remedy/redemption seems to come forward.

In the first place, from the time the FIRST STRUCTURE went up the DCA should have put their foot down. NOT NOW!

The departments who should be minding their business are never around, until the deed is done. I sincerely hope the DCA has confronted the CCC on this situation - and that BOTH of them remedy it. They are both to be blamed.

As for the city of Castries ... !! A huge garbage dump! Some kind of city - I am not proud of it all!!

Pretty soon, it seems as though Gros Islet will take over as the capital of St Lucia - it can happen!!

Wise up, Castries.

The capital should be in Vieux- Fort in the first place they putting every thing in Castries and there is no more space. No parking, no housing and poor development.Vieux Fort is flat, has a international airport, good for high rise buildings and much more.Wake up and do the changes now, put more stuff in the south of the island.
