Noticeably missing from Dr. Anthony's "response" is any mention of the millions in concessions given to a builder of his private residence in Rodney Bay.

Stan Bishop, apparently you were at Dr. Anthony's press conference. What did Dr. Anthony say when you questioned him about it?

Anonymous said...

the paper don't the entire excert of the press conference, because i heard Dr Anthony reply

All politicians should be given a lie detector test before taking office, especially Kenny. They are all liars.

I hope lucians learn from this experience. I heard the response from Dr Anthony and in an effort to be objective he fed Mr Ram to the dogs claiming that the concessions were given but the fact that the building was not completed in time and he was elected out of office before the world cup then it is the responsibility of the present authorities to investigate the matter and take the necessary actions. Are we to believe that if the labor party were in power that they would take action against Mr Ram. I wonder what his recent comments has done for Kenny's reputation with the SLISBA members. Maybe Ms Cherry could shed some light on this for us.

Why do we look for excuses and go to the past point out the wrongs or perceived wrongs done by the previous administration when dealing with the present? Those who do that and keep claiming all politicians are they same are the reason why Politicians keep doing these misdeads and get away with it.
When something is wrong it is wrong plain and simple.

When Cabinets grants a concession for duty free on certain concessions, if it is not done under certain conditions and it is the customs Department who should take up the case and ensure compliance and not Cabinet. It was the customs department which asked Mr. Mondesir to comply and indicate he was in breach of the terms of the concessions. The Wrong is the present government tried to cover up the breach by bringing a second conclusion.I do not give a Damn about which party it is. The example we are setting for the young people is you can get away with anything in St. Lucia and we cannot allow this to happen. Whether you like Kenny or not if what he has said is fact. Minister Mondesir, Minister Nicholas Frederick and Minister Richard Frederick should resign. Nicholas Frederick has proven to be an incompetent Attorney General and has attempted to cover up the misdeeds of a Cabinet member both in the Richard Frederck Case and The Keith Mondesir Case.

That has nothing to do with Kenny Anthony and his Cabinet, if duty free concessions were given and the terms breached it is the customs department that has to move in on them.
Mr. Frederick cannot say he will not pursue Mr. Ramjettan, if he breached the terms he should be made to pay the duties plain and simple. It is for this reason people like Mr. Frederick who has put himself in such a position has no moral authority to take mr. Ramjetthan to task. they cannot do it because they are guilty as well.
I have no difficulty in giving concessions as long as people do not breach the terms. the funds foregone is at the expense of some other government project or department

Kenny Anthony and those in office are no different. Same papishow, different day.

I refuse to vote for either.

Anonymous said...

Let them fight each other, that'll be good for the new party.

Are you serious.True it is not a matter of Kenny or cabinet however the point is Kenny took the issue to court and raised the awareness of the case. Right now as many have been saying that he is paid to do what he is doing. Here is a similar case where a breach has occured and look where he stands on the issue. As a matter of fact all the individuals who played host to visitors recieved payment are and under law are they not required to be taxed? What legislation was passed in order to address this issue? I guess you will say give the poor man a chance.

If we are to force the current government out of power are we just supposed to elect Kenny and Co and not take into consideration what happened in the pass. No wonder St Lucia going in circles.
Simply ridiculous

Boy, people will always call St. Lucians stupid!!
One would read those comments and would be justified into believing that we are actually Jack*****!!
Why not get hold of the World Cup Concessions ACT and READ it.
Then, there will be less un-educated inuendos and filth written about people who were afforded concessions under the Act and what happens to their establishment after the World Cup. P...L....E....A...S...E....
Also call a custom's friend etc. Educate yourselves.....Stop the uneducated diatribe everywhere on every online article....

I never said replace them with Kenny and you should not take into account what happen in the past.
I said we should not use the past to justify something that is wrong. what about that you cannot understand
you can elect who the hell you want We seem to believe it is either kenny or King.
since when forcing Mondesir or the others to resign means forcing the government out. office. this is what the SLP wants.

Oh my. Interesting comments going about here. It is through pure haste that we have this situation at hand. Kenny and his cabinet under the guise of the cricket world cup created and opportunity for persons to recieve concessions to build or fix their homes. Friends benefited from it too but no big deal. However the supporting legislation for this project was incomplete and lacked foresight. I would think that if we working with a timeline that some form of documented evidence or a contract even should be presented to ensure that structure would be finished in time for the world cup. After all two years after is a mighty long time after the fact. We must go back on this issue and take a careful look at it as we must be more thorough in our decision making. If I were to apply for the concessions 3 mths before the start of the world cup and I have to build a new structure would I recieve the concessions? I would think that common sense would tell that the structure would not be completed in time. At the same time if the application was made almost an entire year before the world cup then why was it not completed in time? I would like to see all individuals who are in breach of the agreement be taken to task unfortunately we only have evidence of one individual and I hope that he would do the right thing. On the other hand by next week we will soon forget about it and go on the the next hot topic of the day

Yes, there is a pattern here. With the Rochamel deal, cost overruns were guaranteed by the Kenny government, but there was no oversight to verify the cost overruns were justified. Same thing with the Soufriere/Vieux Fort highway. And now we find out that people getting concessions for Cricket World Cup with no oversight to verify accommodations would be ready in time (not that any of it was needed anyway!)

Question: Is Kenny that inept or was he providing the means to transfer money from government to certain people? Whatever your answer, we don't want him back.

Anonymous said...

speak for your self who is we?
you are within your right to not wany him back.
but only an election will determin who gets back in.
you guys either see red or yellow that is the problem. you seem to be seeing yellow now

St.Lucians are not stupid, that's why we are demanding more for our buck, the buck we pay all civil servants especially our politicians.

Remember, we are the ones paying them.

Anonymous said...

They would be stupid however if they re-elect crooked Kenny. The SLP needs new leadership, not Kenny.

Anonymous said...

Please tell us how Kenny is crooked?

Funny how Terrance Leonard arrested Richard Frederick for not paying his estimation of the full duty on two vehicles and then found that Mondesir had not paid $14,000 duty on furniture but never noticed the biggest, most magnificent mansion sitting on two lots of the Rodney Bay Waterfront was not the 6 apartments as described in the concession granted by Kenny.Funny how a businessman can defraud the people of St.Lucia $2.1 million in unpaid duties yet Philip Pierre can come on TV and say that exposing the businessman will drive investors away.
Funny how a man gets shot for a bottle of brandy but Flavia Chery comes on lunchtime news to protect one of her members just exposed for a fraud that represents 10% of our IMF Loan.

Because you UWPees writing on this Board are so taken up with Kenny and the past, you all can't even seem to see what CORRUPTION which is presently going on in this present government. NOTHING is happening and you all still after Kenny.

OK, let's keep this inept and un-educated government in power and re-vote them. A governement laced with convicted criminals and literal Baffoons who can't read or write or generate reports or laws and Life will be better.

The only thing that happened in the past 9 years is Rochamel and Concessions.....Helenites....etc etc.

So let's keep King and his men in there because Kenny think he educated and he got money for his friends and he is corrupt and he is now trying to bring down a good government when he already had his turn.

Soon we can blame Kenny for our dental decays and our extra-marital affairs!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Kenny keeps pointing his index finger all the while forgeting that there are 3 fingers pointing at him.

Anonymous said...

This whole thing between Kenny and the government should make all St Lucians afraid. What is happening here is a group of fellas arguing about who rip the country off the most.

Kenny is no better than the UWP and the UWP is no better than Kenny. Make your pick. Same ole pants fill with caca.

LMAO........

Someone needs to explain to Dr Anthony that people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. That's a no! no! Aboslutely, never throw stones!

Anonymous said...

Dr. Anthony, we the the people of St.Lucia, at least those of us who do not have wool pulled over our eyes and stuffed in our ears are still waiting for a truthful explanation of what went down with that shadey british company Rochamel. Ah yes...that...we haven't forgotten...not a chance. Get over yourself already!

He's hoping that all St.Lucians do have short-term memory.

All the people who is talking about Kenny, Kenny, Kenny, the question i want to ask is, is the country better now or when Kenny was PM, give me an honest answer.

Anonymous said...

Same thing, just a different party.

Helen Richardson said...

Any serious elecorate must aspire to want much more than mere talk of Kenny was better than King.

Under King are receiving a 1/4 pound of representation. Under Kenny was received a 1/2 pound of representation. With a population of 168,000 people. None has proven to have a holistic approach to St Lucia's development.

We don't need a 1/4 or a 1/2 talk of gas. St Lucia needs men and women who are capable of delivering a full tank of gas. For far too long we have lived with mediocrity. St Lucia deserves better than the mediocrity of King and Kenny.

Being better off with 1/2 a tank of gas is not good enough when the journey ahead seems unending.

Anonymous said...

With all that talk of 1/2 tank foolishness, we must remember 1/2 a loaf is much better than no bread. I want the person to tell me which government in the history of this world that have ever give us 100%. PLEASE, PLEASE, identify someone or a party that will EVER give us 100% or full tank as you said.

Dear friends all, did we all actually read the article above? I find it SO INTERESTING that not one commentator so far has made mention of a VERY IMPORTANT matter that was revealed in the article. Richard Frederick applied for Customs duty free concessions for 4 of his houses, AFTER he had already sold 2 of them. People, why are we not addressing this matter? What on God's green earth is wrong with us? Should we not be demanding Richard Frederick's resignation from the government? Didn't we remove the last government so that this one could do the right thing? Why are we not demanding Richard Frederick's resignation, MY PEOPLE, for such a bold-faced act of criminality and robbery of the Custom's revenue? Why my people, RED or YELLOW? Donna

Comments signed by Donna, hit the NAIL right on the head.

No amount of painting Kenny as "crooked" etc. is going to change the fact that Richard Frederick as a Government Minister in the UWP Government sought concessions on not only an expired World Cup Cricket Concessions but for FOUR Villas, TWO of which were already sold at the time he applied for the Concessions.

Let's deal with that!!!!

Jaime said...

Well, well, well, someone, please tell me why was it necessary for this current cabinet to revoke the cabinet conclusions that would grant concessions to Richard Frederick. Doesn't that say something to us? Have we read Richard Frederick's letter to his cabinet colleagues seeking the concessions? Did we notice that he claims that he did not remember that the deadline had passed, though new date was set by the cabinet he is part of.

Are we aware that some villas were already sold when the extension for the concessions was sought? In other word, although he sold the property (presumable for profit) he was still requesting duty and Tax free benefits from his own government.

Are we to accept that type of behavior from our vote-seeking government official?

For crying out loud, some people have to demit office for lesser infractions in other jurisdictions. Are we less civilized/cultured in St.Lucia?

Whether or not we like Kenny's politics, one has to admit that he took the right stance on both Mondesir and Richard. We should only be interested in the truth and not which politician that can grandstand.

It would be difficult for me to say that Kenny acted improperly when his government at that time gave concessions to persons who applied with the relevant documentation. As someone suggested in an earlier comment, we should read the CW Act.

If having received concessions, one has not adhered to the requirement of the Act then it is incumbent on the government/authority of the day to take appropriate action. Plain and simple.
Richard Frederick has fail to show that Kenny acted improperly and I haven't heard of any former minister receiving World Cup concessions.

Lucians, we must demand that offenders of our laws and regulations, especially those we have elected, be subject to the very law they have violated.

I am afraid that we are going down a very dangerous path where even greater degeneration of our society will occur with the epicenter located at the top.

No amount abusive language will get us out this mess. Our preoccupation should be to build a better society and that includes keeping undesirables (unrepentant criminals, drug lords, the incompetent etc.) out of public office.

Anonymous said...

"it is incumbent on the government/authority of the day to take appropriate action"

and the reason the Comptroller of Customs went after Mondesir and not Ramjattan was because .......

jaime said...

Be reasonable! do not see things from a partisan perspective. Why pin this situation to on kenny? why don't you, in the interest of the country, insist that our government through its Customs dept. take action, not just against Ramjattan but all those that in breach of the Act. Richard and Mondesir included. This is not about taking sides it is about the Law of the land being upheld by ALL.

My dear fellow St. Lucian and freind, what make this thing so shameful and distasteful is when our lawmakers, whom we elect, engage in such fraudulent behavior and still occupy comfortable positions in our government. If this does not disturb you or attract condemnation from you, well then, what can I say. Please do some introspection. The idea of this chat is not to vilify but for us to agree to stand for what is right not matter who it offends
