I read the article (The Hate and The Quake) by Sir Hilary Beckles of UWI Cave Hill Campus and it just blew me away.

Josie,

The Voice should have made Harris read your piece before he was allowed to lar-gi-git on the paper like a dog.

As usual Josie plays the "victim" card. The same card practiced by the liberals in America that keep our people as mendicants. We refuse to see that we ourselves are responsible for our problems instead of waiting for Massa to come and save us.

Haiti is a horrible story with a culture of poverty more caused by our own selfish people feeding off the most destitute in our countries.

The corruption, mismanagement and inefficiencies have been caused by our own brothers in Haiti and not primarily by "de white man" as apologists like Josie would have us beleive.

There were 10,000 NGOs (made up mostly of white people from the very countries Josie castigates) in Haiti before the earthquake providing relief and you could put another 10,000 in there and it would not make a difference.

Haiti before the earthquake had 10 times more aid going in there than foreign investment.

As long as old time politicians like Josie continue the refrain of blaming othere races for our failings the longer we will remain in servitude.

Haitains now have an opportunity to finally rebuild out of 2 centuries of misery. if they try to do so by blaming every white man or France or the USA as Josie advocates then all will be for nought.

This article again shows that while Mr, Josie can sometimes have good ideas he is philosophically prone to the unfocused infantile nonsense from our educated class that keeps us from gaining the heights we ought to reach as a people.

you cannot be more right than that. Most of Haiti misery is caused by Haitians themselves,do not misread me, i am not saying that some is not cause other wises, like their history etc. When i say Haitians i mean the greedy politicians, if you check Haiti political history you will see that all the politicians do is to fight to get into power, by any means possible to enrich themselves very quickly before the next coup. Most donor countries do not give Haiti government aid any more because the politicians do nothing for the people, they would bank most of the money off shores eg. in Miami. You would see them living in mansions and driving BMW etc. in Florida, when their political career is over in Haiti.

The author blames almost all problems
to France, U.S.A, U.K. en Spain.
I smell quite some racism in this story. Well 200 years of indepence and still a mess. During the reign of "father" Aristide enormous numbers of uncontrolled gangs were looting and killing. He made a mess of it. The population of Haiti consists of more than 95% of people from African origin. Look at most African countries were Afro people exploit their own people. I'm not a racist, but I love animals more than humans. Most humans, black, white, brown or yellow are selfish and ruthless if it's about money and power. We should fight the secret societies that strangle the entire world like Rockefeller and
Rothschild a.o. They are printing the paper money and make every citizen a debt slave, white, black, brown and yellow. Those are the enemies of the human race. Look at www.youtube.com and search for Zeitgeist. That's the true story how it works and how almost everybody remains enslaved by this system.

Anonymous said...

I do not care whether someone is white, black, yellow or brown.
The author blames too much the missery during over 200 years on France, USA, U.K. and Spain. Almost all humans are greedy and selfish.
The Author also commends about God and Voodoo.Anyway god created the world in 6 days and the 7th day he went to rest. What a louzy God. He left a mess in the world. He doesn't care, He is a bad ruler. He should be judged and fired. As long as nobody can prove their is a God or can not prove their is no God, I do not believe in God. I believe in constant evoluation according to Darwin.

Note that Josie’s first detractor in this thread offers no evidence for his/her long diatribe, completely ignores history, where foreigners, notably French, U.S., English, and now the IMF have sucked out Haiti’s economic treasure from after the revolution to present time (over 2 centuries). Completely ignored is the history of economic/political repression by messieurs Liberté, Egalité, et Fraternité, and by Lady Liberty!

What Haiti needs now are reparations for the economic genocide perpetrated by western countries/institutions, and self-determination in its political affairs.

I do not hear this detractor complaining about the so-called Jews who insisted on, and continue to receive reparations for Hitler’s atrocities, which occurred just over 65 years ago.

'At that time, Uncle Sam’s only interest in Haiti was to keep Castro from spreading his brand of revolution east into Haiti.'

If Castro ruled over the Caribbean, today rotten persons like this author would not write what he writes.

It is senseless and a waste of an intellect to discuss Josie's version of history. As expected he is trotting out the usual socialist bile that blames everyone for our failures except our own incompetencies since Independence whether in 1804 or 1979.

Persons like Josie have no respect for the electorate and thinks the answers are all in his head and persons like himself are the ones who will show the way. Exactly like all the rulers of Hait1 since 1804 except L'Ovature.

Anonymous said...

Commenter stated "It is senseless and a waste of an intellect to discuss Josie's version of history," but cannot point out where Josie is in error!

Evidence reveals that the main entity which did not respect the Haitian electorate was the U.S. which was busy spreading its brand of 'democracy' - client dictatorships.

My question is:How can these people live with themselves, with so much on their conscience.the genocide of the Arawaks and Caribs.the genocide ot the Aztec indian.the genocide of the Mayan indians.
The countless slaughter of the original people in south america
The genocide of the Many American indian tribes like th Sioux
the Iroquoix
The genocide of the Black slaves killed at a rate of 50,000 every three months,so that there was need for a continious supply from Africa.
The on going genocide of the unborn via planned parenthood.
The genocide caused by the invented virus which causes AIDS.
The genocide caused by their use of blacks to fight their proxy wars.
the list goes on and on.
Add to this the endless rapes of our slave women and children.
the multiplicity of the human abuse ,torture suffered by our ancestors at the hands of the oppressor
These people have to walk with their haeds bent down in shame.
Whatever a person sows they reap.
Let us keep our distance from such people.

THE SYRIANS
THE ETHIOPIANS

remember in the days of slavery there were no cars ,no street lights, no telephone, no planes.
SAILING SHIPS took three months to cross the atlantic.
communication was slow. The slave owners had horses slaves walked.
The slave owner could do what he liked.when he raped a black female SlAVE,WHERE COULD SHE TURN FOR HELP.WHEN HE HACKED OF A SLAVES ARM WHERE COULD THE INJURED SLAVE GET MEDICAL TREATMENT?
THERE WERE NO ROADS,JUST HORSE TRACKS LEADING TO AND FROM SOME LOST ESTATE DEEP IN THE BUSH.
T was no police no lawyer...the soldiers were from the slave owners country and they would not side with the slaves.
What horror these people have done

Guess which of the writers here will always never climb to the top? The ones who see themselves as the victims instead of as capable of climbing out of their destitution.

Will a Peter Josie ever be capable of leading a country or even being a good minister with that kind of attitude? He has already proven NOT because he has the wrong mindset.

The Irish, the Jews, the Polish, the American Indians in Mexico, the Indians in India, the Chinese, the Vietnamese - these are just some examples of people who have been murdered in the hundreds of thousands and millions, downtrodden and ruled by despots over centuries. Yet they have come back like roaring lions to become some of the most powerful people in the world and made their countries great.

The reason Haiti suffered the way they did was that they had accomplices in Haitains who were always willing to work as surrogates to put down their own people. As long as Haitains had their own people looking after individual interests rather than the good of the country then others will always exploit them.

We support abortion bigtime in the Caribbean when Planned Parenthood was formed by a eugenicist called Margaret Sanger who wanted to kill off black babies because she was a racist who thought blacks were inferior. That is wht black children are killed in disproportionate numbers in the United States by white abortionists who build their hospitals next to black population centers. Yet blacks in America support the Democratic party that is the pro abortionist party.

The reason why you can quote Hillary Beckles is because Beckles is just the kind of liberal elitist that has kept down black people for decades by promoting every evil as being someone else rather than our own fault and something to be fixed. Hillary Beckles and his failed philosophy is just the type of incompetence who has mislead the Caribbean since independence. Our quality of life continues to fall, crime rate goes up, family life is destroyed while the Beckles sit at the top of the pile pontificating like a Lord and Master but giving no direction forward. There is not any object scholarship on Haiti because it has either been written by our own local "ivory tower" apologists or by liberal/socialist white academics who want to show that we are like children who cannot pull ourselves up by the bootstraps. They killing us with pity and sympathy. Name me one difference Beckles has made to our quality of life as Caribbean people?

We do not want to go the HARD ROUTE to greatness as a people. We have a poor work ethic, a poor attitude towards the family with the woman on the side and the "concubine", we want the easy route out. The Jamaicans talk about the "samfi artist', the Lucians talk about the "bobolists."

Start dealing with that instead of about who did what to us.

It will take another revolution a la Toussaint L'Overture before we are eady to move forward.

The BBC is one of the biggest liberal/socialist mouthpieces which has supported the fall of the UK as a great power. England is bankrupt because of liberals/socialists and on the verge of defaulting on its soverign debt and becoming a second world power. All because of its adherence to the Labour Party and the Browns, and Blairs.

The authorities admitt that England is very likely to be hit by Muslim terrorists because of their poor security measures and political correctness promoted by the labour party and liberals.
This is the same people whose political correctness keeps black people in mendicancy in Britain and keep making excuses for he corruption and mismanagement pf place like Haiti.

So please do not quote the BBC to me. Let these white people by your Massa not mine. I am teaching my children not to be victims and to stand on their own two feet and not go on welfare.

TOLERANCE

Tolerance is the pry bar by which the modern liberal moves boundaries.

Robert H. Bork, in his introduction of Slouching Towards Gomorrah (1997), cites the Durkheim Constant: "Emile Durkheim, a founder of sociology, posited that there is a limit to the amount of deviant behavior any community can 'afford to recognize.'" As behavior worsens, the community adjusts standards so that conduct once thought reprehensible is gradually thought to be normal. However, Mr. Bork conjectures that the limits to deviant behavior have expanded in both directions, so that what was deviant is now considered normal, and what was moral is thought puritanical or extremist and therefore irrelevant. Modern liberalism makes every effort to redefine or blur (whichever is more expedient) both boundaries of the acceptable norm and label opponents as "intolerant." Societies continue downward as we promote more and more tolerance instead of adhering to conservative principles.

This tolerance is what the liberal academics promote throughout the Caribbean to the point that a deviant society like Trinidad loves to promote its "tolerance".

So we are tolerant of Haiti's deviant behaviour (and even promote it) we are tolerant of Caribbean "bad bwoy" behaviour, we promote single motherhood in spite of its consequences to our society.

Then we go on to balme everyone else but ourselves because we do not want to do the hard work to pull ourselves up to other culture's levels.

Anonymous said...

Commenter's long upsupported screeds has been a blind to hide one simple truth...he/she is a self-hater and has a serious inferiority complex, viz.:

"...we do not want to do the hard work to pull ourselves up to other culture's levels."

Commenter has given other cultures precedence over ours and is searching for like minds with which to wallow in self-pity. Clearly this individual's cognizance of self is limited by his/her short incurious lifespan, and he/she is completely unaware of the glorious contribution of black peoples to the positive, productive existence of human beings on this planet - Earth!

Keep making those bland, undeveloped comments until you get forgotten like all those less developed persons going before you making excuses for our lack of development. You are indeed part of the feckless past that has led us nowhere.

Keep up the mental mendicancy.

Commenter can safely be ignored as commenter continues to make unsupported assertions and has gone off on a tangent in regard to the discussion at hand. Commenter cannot bring any evidence to show how Josie's relation of history to Haiti's current political/economic plight is inaccurate, hence the reason for the ad hominem attacks on Josie. Commenter cannot see how his/her baseless arguments are further weakened by the stark contradiction of juxtaposing "unfocused infantile nonense" with "educated class". Does this commenter even know what educated means?

I have refrained from reading anything that Peter Josie writes because it is normally slanted towards his one track mind. All of a sudden Josie is a prophet trying to mold Lucian mind with his doctrine. I sometimes wonder why the Voice of St. Lucia, which claims to be the National Newspaper the country could allow this senseless columns week after week.
Josie, In your youthful days you were never a "brain" and todate that statement still stands. How long did it take you to complete the Agricultre course you did in Trinidad? John Compton was patient with all your failures and allowed you to complete your studies. You returned to St. Lucia as a Black Power advocate, a Communist sympathizer and did little or nothing to improve the agriculture situation in St. Lucia. Instead, you and George Odlum completely terrorize the country leaving the town in complete chaos...remember "plywood City." Thanks to Domonica's "Iron Lady" who with the help of President Ronald Reagan stopprd the fiasco in Grenada or we all would have perished.
The Haiti Earthquake has nothing to do with Massa or the neglect of any foreign power. Of all the poor countries in the world Haiti gets the most aid, It's just that they could neverget it together as a people, since Toussain L'Ouverture. What is newsreporting coming to in St. Lucia... We have Marriannna in the Star and Josie in the voice

You've nailed it, Peter Josie.
And judging by some of the responses, the truth still annoys some and hurt others.
Without a proper understanding of history, we all are doomed. For the African diaspora, if we don't pay close attention to Haiti's history, nasty & terrible earthquakes will be the least of our troubles.
Thanks to the internet, this is being circulated among St.Lucians over here: I was able to read Peter Josie's sharp historical review while seating in my office in downtown Dallas, Tx.
I am also glad this was written by a St.Lucian, makes me proud!
God bless you Peter Josie; God bless Haiti!

Anonymous said...

And we all know all about Josie's history. Means we are doomed twice over.

Anonymous said...

It’s very clear that the truth has indeed made some St. Lucians very uncomfortable because it has come from Josie.

Judging by the nasty comments, it does not seem that St. Lucia needs fear outside influences and circumstances to keep it illiterate and poor. For such a small country, with such a small population, tribalism is rife, so the job can be done from within.

Wow...interesting...
Does it matter if he is a wolf in sheep clothing? A cat in a dog’s clothing? Truth is truth...in regards to Haiti's financial and political history...mention in this article.
Just to add more facts to the article...the money the Haitians paid to the French to be acknowledge as an independent Afrikan functioning country...that same money was used to make the statue of liberty for the United States...so when ever you see the lady of liberty standing tall...it came from the blood of Africans... Yes there is corruption in Haiti...truth be told...but most of that is because of neo colonialism… The Westerners took advantage of former slaves mind put them in power and use their blackness as a symbol of victory …as local folks are misled…Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome (PTSD) like many folks suffer from… The rebuilding of Haiti will take 10 yrs the American puppet…sorry I meant leader said…but yet the World Bank will not forgive Haiti of their debt…really?? Why is that? My people before we speak we must know the facts…do some research and back your opinions by facts after analyzing your findings… Stop with the unnecessary criticisms when we are making reference to people’s lives...
Haiti was the first free African nation in the Western Hemisphere… Leaders like Toussaint L’ Ouvertue also influence many Latin American countries to gain their independence…so that shook many European countries that supported or participated in the slave trade… When ever progress is being made in Haiti…some crap happens…hmmm? Or is it just me?…. Anyways I came across an interesting article this morning….this is a small exempt taken from it….food for thought….

Scientists Ginette and Daniel Mathurin indicated that “under Haitian soil it is rich in oil and fuel.” “We have identified 20 oil sites.” said ‘Daniel Mathurin stating that “5 of them are considered of great importance by specialists and politicians.”
“The Central Plateau, including the region of Thomonde, the plain of the Cul-de-Sac and the bay of Port-au-Prince are full of hydrocarbons,”he said adding that “the oil reserves of Haiti are more important than those of Venezuela.” “An Olympic pool compared to a glass of water; that is the comparison to illustrate the importance of Haitian oil compared with those of Venezuela,” he explains.
“Venezuela is one of the world’s largest producers of oil.”

Keep your eyes and minds open folks…
