Bravo, Chester! Bravo! You've made an outstanding start as President. Your recommendations are "Bang-on". Hopefully Government will act on them. And perhaps too the Chamber of Commerce will take the lead in implementing some of them. In particular I hope that your call for a realistic minimum wage will be supported by the Chamber's membership.

“We seem to think that correcting the ills of this country is the responsibility of the government only, not so…,” Hinkson said....

To Anonymous #2 ... I don't think you read Mr Hinkson's speech completely - he also asked that WE have OUR part to play in the running of our nation. I beg you to read the article again.

ROCK ON CHESTER!!

BRAVO.....BRAVO....WHAT A SPEECH..LONG OVERDUE..........!!
I AM AN OUTSIDE INVESTOR IN ST. LUCIA AND HAVE REACHED A POINT WHERE I WILL NO LONGER CONTINUE WITH MY INTEREST FOR THE TIME BEING AFTER HAVING MY LIFE THREATENED TWICE IN SO MANY YEARS.
Now, how many people in the audience stood up and appaulded Mr Hinkson ??

Fantastic speech Chester. I wish we could get politicians who would address us like this when they are out campaigning, instead of dishing out "move' lanng" at each other.
One thing though. The gettoes first have to be stopped from development. These start by just one person occupying a government spot of land, and soon the rest follow in droves. The politicians are afraid to stop them, as they want every vote they can get. Another thing that amazes me, is how those people in the gettos are able to get connection from WASCO and LUCELEC. That is the major cause of the gettoes being developed. I had to go through such red tape to get my home connected by WASCO and LUCELEC, and needed to show my deed to the land and house, but it would seem that WASCO and LUCELEC overlooks this in the gettoes. That's where we have to begin to end our getto problems. Our economy cannot support bulding all thoses requirement for every new gettoes that starts up. If the government did this, we would end up with more gettoes than villages.

I have always been impressed by Mr. Hinkson whenever he has seen it fit to address various issues in St. Lucia. This is indeed the best of the lot and he reinforces many of the points I have made here and on other blogs.

In an article I wrote in another nedia (not in St. Lucia) I mentioned the same incident that Mr. Hinkson brought up with regard to St. Croix. The father of a friend of mine had an investment in that country at the time and within 24 hours he was bankrupt. From a multi millionaire to bankrupt in 24 hours - if you think I am joking.

St. Lucia's economy is hanging by a thread because of the situation of violence and it is going to take an extremely strong willed person who fears nothing or no one before it will be bgought under control.

Unfortunately St. Lucians do not want to hear the truth. If Mr. Hinkson were to become PM of our country and implement what he needed to do to get our country on the right path he would soon be called reactionary, racist and told how he "beating our people down", etc.

So what kept him so silent all these years? Better late than never though.

Anonymous said...

Too late!
St Lucia is too scary for tourists and we're going to end up like Trinidad. No tourism. Stop discussing what a good speech it was and do something!!

You sound like the mad-fowl with so much hatred and going like a broken record.

BUT PE'LAY BEFORE WE CAN STOP PEOPLE DEVELOPING ON GOVERNMENT OR UNCLAIMED LAND WE MUST FIRST ADDRESS THE PROBLEM S WHICH THEY FACE.
I BELIEVE THAT A LOT OF GREAT IDEAS EXIST IN THESE SO CALLED GHETTOS,AND THESE IDEAS CAN BE GIVEN AN OUTLET.
A GOOD FIRST STEP WOULD BE TO HAVE SOME SORT OF MEETING,BRAINSTORMING,THINKTANKING ,CALL IT WHAT YOU WILL,WITH PEOPLE IN THE GHETTOS. LET US GET THEIR CONTRIBUTION AND SEE WHICH ARE VIABLE.THEN WE CAN PROVIDE THE ENVIRONMENT WITHIN THE GHETTO FOR THESE IDEAS TO FLOURISH.IN SUCH A STEP BY STEP WAY THE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC ENVIRONMENT OF THE SO CALLED GHETTOS CAN BEGIN TO CHANGE
OF COURSE WE CAN THINK OF MANY OTHER WAYS OF HELPING OUT

What he said on the issue of weed is so true. Just follow many US states, if you have a certain amount you can't be arrested. I hope people listen to his advice.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Hinkson,
after having read this article I can only congratulate you on your impecable, ability to bring to the forefront issues that ail St. Lucia
you're a very focused visionary, with tremendous logic,

now if only St. Lucians and the government would take serious notice of what you said. we'd all be better off,

probably just wishful thinking I'm afraid.

Bravo! Well said.

Please get the hell out of "the cesspool" cuz we don't need your lowlife type. Take your money and shove it as far as possible, we can do without it but you can't because it is your God.

no problem, me getting the hell out, leave you and the rest, to sink in this toilet "st. Lucia,
enjoy the ride down the drain while I continue to prosper.

"rich" is a beautiful thing!!!

Like I said, go shove your money as far as you can. We've survived so far without the likes of you so you and your spawn can go back to hell. Good luck cuz you're gonna need it.

To IBm: I did read the entire article and I understood it fully. I agree we all have our part to play in our coutry's development. I've doing all I can and I'm always looking for ways to do more. So, pardon me if I didn't take Chester's remarks personally.
I do know however that Governments AND the private sector have not done done all they can do to reduce crime. There is still no rehabilatation program in our prison system; institutions like CARE and Upton Gardens that help to give our kids a second chance and steer them away from crime are grossly under-funded and must rely on hand-outs; the laws are not being toughened to discourage people (families and friends) from supporting criminals; the business community stills relies too heavily on the Police to protect their businesses.

Where crime is concerned none of us should run away from our reponsibilities. Hopefully in a few months time Chester can come back and tell us what what part the Chamber will play to reduce crime.

"shove your money"
there's no luck involved in acquiring wealth, just hard work, obviously something you'd know nothing about.

Anonymous said...

It seems you're having trouble shoving your money, perhaps you should roll the bills and shove them until they start coming out of your nose, then and only then you should stop....good riddance and good luck.

Anonymous said...

dear, trouble shoving,
you are quite correct a bank roll of bills this size can't easly be shoved unless you got an A$$ the size of serena williams's.

I'm off to make another bank deposit to pay for my dominca villa project, in the mean time you can stroll over to your piggy bank and make your deposit.

good luck to you friend.

For someone with that much money you sure have lots of time on your hands!! Shouldn't you be busy with your projects?

Chester, just talking, he eh mean shit he say about minimum wage, it is his fraternity that make King and Co. kill the Labour Code. We don't need chamber charity, we want our just dues now, and 2011 we voting for we Labour Code. Make it Law. Chester getting conscience in his old age. Just like Michael Chastanet getting consciene in old age, just talk. Only Rick that not getting a conscience. But wait, you cannot teach old dog new trick. ha ha ha

The chamber of commerce lacks innovation and an open philosophy to business in St.Lucia. The only focus of its members is to monopolise the system and stifle invocation if they are not in the lead or a part of the transaction.

They control the financial system to harness their end-games as part of the Elites boys/girls club which benefits the few. Let’s see the chambers proposals on investments and developments, liberalization of the financial apparatus and institutions, mechanisms and incentives for locals and entrepreneurs, lobbying government, not party on matters of financial legislation, labour relation, financial services, etc, and not bankrolling political party or centralizing power and affluence in the hands of a few.

Anonymous said...

dear, "busy wit de projects."
yes projects aplenty buddy, but none for you in St. Lucia, all villas happening in dominica, "sweet dominica."
getting quality tradesmen is a bit more difficult but well worth the hassle.
