Anonymous, I could not agree with you more. It seems like some people just do not understand what development is about. Why must everything be political. I get confused when some people believe that they are entitled to things that they have not purchased. Personally, I believe it is about time Castries begin to look like a city.

the government could also tear down the slum on the opposite side, and without notices, but with a lot of lashes.

It's the politicians who have been fueling this malaway syndrome. They are the ones who ahve been encouraging people to believe that their right to earn a living or take care of their children takes precedence over the rights of others. Take a look at the disgusting state of Castries with all these sidewalk vendors pushing people onto the streets. Micoud Street has beome a hazardous zone. The street virtually has no sidewalk and no action has been taken by the CCC despite the fact that there are 2 large schools in the area. All of us have a right to live but all of us have a responsibility to obey the law. By encouraging vendors to occupy sidewalks which are meant to preserve the safety of pedestrians the CCC and the Government are breaking the law. As far as I know the laws were not amended to permit this practice and so the CCC has no legal basis for collecting fees from these vendors. This is ridiculous

And then we worry about escalating crime. There is no such thing as a small crime. A crime is a crime.

Castries is a dump. It's time for the private sector and government to develop and improve this once beautiful city.
