This is a much needed article...very informative. It is unfortunate that we claim to have achieved independence but still depends on a form of colonialism to elect our leader.

There is power in numbers. As such, we need to put our heads together, let's rally together to achieve our democracy from the dictates and standards of the monarchy.

I look forward to the day when we (the people) can elect our prime minister. America may have its flaws but their political system is one that should be modeled in the interest of democracy for all.

Who will galvanize people to elect a group of people who will effectuate this kind of change? Dream on!

If the Labour Party wins without Kenny Anthony, China will have a bigger role in our affairs.

If the UWP wins without King, then Taiwan will have a bigger role in our affairs.

And if the LPM wins without Prudent, China and Taiwan will carve up St.Lucia equally between them.

Blogger #1, we did not achieved independence the way the United States won its independence from England, or the way Haiti won its independence from France; instead, the British bestowed upon us a Quasi-Colonial Arrangement (within its Commonwealth) and we called it independence.

Great article. That day is right around the corner.

Are you hinting that the LPM may want to have it both ways? LOL

I have always thought so. LOL

They may want to bring in the Russians.

We will never be a republic because there are many big sharks like Chavez just waiting to sink their teeth in our young democratic flesh.

If it ain't broke, then don't fix it.

BTW.. you can move to America cuz we love our Monarchy, may God bless The Queen of Saint Lucia and our beloved Governor General.

@#5, you betray a strange tolerance for continuing the pattern set by John Compton. What St. Lucians have been trained to seek is which person from which party is the best international beggar.

Find him and elect his party to office. That's what St. Lucians have been voting for ever since Compton entered local politics and corrupted our political culture.

Isn't this why Compton managed so long with virtual broomsticks as political candidates, while he kicked out competent and capable navel-string-buried St. Lucians like Hunter J. Francois?

Today, St. Lucians are fighting each other like tribes. It does not matter how deeply corrupt the political candidates are, or how ignorant, semi-literate or uneducated the broomstick candidates really are.

If the candidate is from our tribe and we feel that the party leader can beg better than the other party's leader, that's the kind of PM we want. That is the party that is generally voted into office.

As was said earlier, all of what has been advanced above is just plain wishful thinking. With most of the people high on beer or on drugs, and a high percentage just barely or semi-literate, getting people to think clearly about national issues is like whistling in the wind.

I think you are here wasting your time too. How do you counter St. Lucia's grand idea of what passes for public debate?

Talk shows and the debate have gone high-tech. Talk shows are delivered in 3D.

Our very popular talk show hosts on radio and TV verbally score and achieve 'greatness' with what has been called 'daily doses of verbal dander'. What an invaluable contribution to public education this has turned out to be!

Hey u up there.
I know what your problem is. U stuck in an era that no longer exist. Who say talk show and talk host can't discuss issues. In England, US and all, It's no different.

Get a life and stop calling St Lucians names.

#8 up there. Let me remind you that until the UWP wins the next election, that is if they don't establish a state of emergency instead, St. Lucia is NOT Hitler's Germany.

It is NOT Mugabe's Zimbabwe. It is NOT Castro's Cuba. It is NOT Gairy's Mongoose Gang Grenada. It is NOT the devil worshiping Iran. It is NOT primitive Afghanistan. It is NOT goon Gaddaffi's Lybia that Bruce Tucker is affiliated to.

Keep on salivating on what you will do next time around when more idiots like you vote UWP. But for now, we en there yet. Ok!

Idiots run amuck in government as so-called MPs, and throughout the country. Even UWP supporter Rick is running scared that private sector business will not make money. The writing is on the wall.

What an about turn! Therefore, we know that St. Lucia is very much idiot country.

The will of our people can never be idiotic.

It may be to you but not to people.

Take your negative lashes on the people of ST Lucia another place. May I remind you that It is not only UWP that have failed. The SlP government of 1979 was no different.

But guess what? I still won't be a jackass like you and call the people of St Lucia and the country idiotic?

This is why in every country the people remove one governemnt and place another. St Lucia is no exception.

Perhaps you are one of the Taiwanese-created millionaires. Your job is to keep on fooling the people. You may be cunning but not smart.

Idiotic St. Lucians voted in the UWP foxes to guard the hen houses. That can never ever be a dumb mistake. It is just a plain jackass smart thing to do.

Anonymous said...

And when they will vote back Kenny Anthony who created Rochamel, cost over run and so on...

They will be smart?

Right?

Stay in your section!

Don't worry of the dander put out by 12 above.

The Daher Building is a cost overblown!

The bright but not shining UWP investors has ulterior motives other than sound financial investment.

They did not even pretend to use for anything else. The UWP's smart money managers simply allowed it to run to more ruin. These geniuses threw good money after bad.

They wouldn't last one day on Wall street. But then again we don't even have a capital market as such.

The payback? FOLLOW THE MONEY!

Both Kenny and King have been following the money for a while. No difference, just different election!

Hideous Idius ... it is amazing how YOU are the biggest jackass and idiot of this discussion.

You always refer to ST LUCIANS - like yourself - as idiots and jackasses, which means ... you are one as well!

I desperately hope you are a ST LUCIAN, and an idiot and jackass as well.

Only idiots respond to idiots or who they consider idiots. Therefore, get the courage and fortitude to ignore the idiot #15. You will then prove yourself to be smart. Or for that matter, smarter. I see why they say that St. Lucia is idiot country.

Great point Monika.
This person has an inflated ego problem. The only thing is that, he just doesn't know it.With all the warts of our people, I will always respects their right to chose. I don't care if it is SLP, UWP or LPM. It's the right and in my eyes they will never be considered idiots.

You up there must be one of those broadcasting to your idiot followers in 3D. Of course you have the right to broadcast daily doses of dander. The only thing is that you don't believe that others have the equal right to point that out to you too! Toofey!!

Anonymous said...

Anyone who believes that Saint Lucians are a bunch of idiots should stay out of the fray of politics.

Move on with your life. You don't belong.

Snotty-nosed, over-cuddled, cry-baby wimps should wrap their heads into their mothers' skirts and dresses, and stop complaining about what they are called. If you can't stand the heat stay out of the kitchen! Idiots, Grow up!

"wisdom" that is PURCHASED IN BOOK FORM DOES NOT MEAN SH??T.

It is not common sense and it can't teach anyone nothing.

I pitty you ...but I praise the good people of my country.

Blogger #2 spot on. The author of this article does not understand political systems and democracy. He does not understand sociology nor our St. Lucian society.

Anonymous said...

People with such infantile idea seldom want to identify themselves.

Thanks to all those who have taken the time to read and respond to this article. There is quite a bit of sociological, psychological and other analysis that can be made of the contributions on this blog. There is a lot of people in the world, in Saint Lucia and on this very page who are nay sayers. They are those who tell you it cannot be done. There are those who can be objective and those who cannot. There are those who will misconstrue information to try to substantiate their hard line positions; those who will be resistant to change at all cost. There are those who will make constructive criticism and those who will look to defame without a shred of evidence or supporting argument. There are those who will miss the meat of the matter and savour on the slimy grease instead. There are those who cannot engage in civil debates and respect the view of others and keep amicable discussions. There are those who are always able to point out the problem but incapable of advancing solutions. I understand democracy enough to realise that our present system falls short when it comes to transparency, accountability, facilitating participation, consensus building and operating in an atmosphere of restraint. Our systems is too prime ministerial in nature. I understand our society enough to know that political demagogy is not what we need and possess the mental will to go against the pervasive political dogma operating within it.

If Peter himself, can not for one reason or the other, convert his pie in the sky thoughts into action, then his is merely an exercise of asking St. Lucians to carry water from the river in the equivalents of his basket loads of writing.

I understand in life that there are detracters. There are those who wait for nothing else but to see you fail. I appreciate people like my blogger above. Resistance is an inevitability in the process of change.

Peter, whichever way you want to look at it, the ball still remains squarely in your court. You can run from, but not hide from this fact.
