Wanted: An Efficient Civil Service

Go figure, I'm still waiting for my 'new birth certificate' after more than a year. I cannot renew my passport since they won't accept the old type certificate and I'm a permanent residence overseas, so therefore, I cannot even visit the country of my birth. Is it my fault that they changed it. Lazy, incompetent people/public servants.

...con't, now I've already had 3 passports in my lifetime and 2 were renewed, don't you people have my records and know who I am? You should all be fired, I say.

I wholeheartedly agree with this article and all comments, I have yet to meet anyone who hasn't had to go to a lawyer following their request for a birth cert whether its their 1st or 10th time of asking for one. I am appalled at this lack of efficiency or corruption, that is hand in glove with the lawyers who charge exhorbitant fees to put right the mistakes of to inefficient not up to the mark civil servants. The fee should be deducted from their pay and given back to the person. Corrupt and inefficient civil service run on partisan lines is a disgrace and in need of a major overhall, hopefully you can get people to be removed from this gravy train.

Civil Servants, backed by their powerful labour-union, have no need to be efficient; after all, they have jobs for life or until they retire; which ever comes first.

When I read or hear Josie running his mouth with his nonsense I get very angry and mad, that gives me a rage in my heart. You know why, we the poor people of St Lucia sacrifice our precious sleep and freedom for 5 long yrs, prior 1979 to support Josie and his party to get into office to make all these changes he is now talking about. We organize, We mobilize people, We bebated, We strike from our work, We attended politcal meetings mostly every night, We marched taking tergas and risk getting arested etc, etc. Under all these adverse conditions we voted Josie and his party into office with a 2\3 majority. What did they do? Instead of implementing all the changes he is now talking about, they fought to distroy their government and bring the same evil government (UWP) back into office. Josie is still supporting that same UWP which he told us was evil and was the worse thing that ever happened to St Lucia and he is now on the sidelines advocating for other people to make the changes we had voted him to make more than three decades ago. Josie should keep quiet because all the changes he is now avocating should have been done by him a long time ago when we gave him the chance. We gave him his chance, he spoiled it so what is he talking about now?

The person who said civil servants have a job for life must understand that it is a right for everybody to work in their country. #2 you cannot blame civil servants to be ineficient because civil servants do not work on their own, they work by the policies of the government. If the government put proper policies in place the workers will have to follow because all the departments have many different levels of supervisors. The government must demand accountability from these supervisors who in turn demand accountability from their subordinates. The problem we have in St Lucia, is from the top, if the head is weak, how do we expect the bottom to function properly? We vote in weak politicians who do not know their head from their elbow and we expect the country to run smoothly. When we have people like King, Guy Joseph, Assin James, Estaphane, Rufus, Spida, Easkiel(spelling) Mondersir, Frederick, Guy Mayers, Doddy, Chastanet running a ministry what do you from the civil servants? People let us think of it SERIOUSLY.

Each of the above, if needs be, can run the country. Who in the Labour Party camp, other than Kenny, can run the country? No one.

You have no shame, after these incompetence have the country in such a mess, you saying they could run the country if needed. You mean you will put the country in Guy Joseph, Assin James, Astaphane, Easikiel, Mondersir etc to run? King and these fellows cannot even present a bill properly in the house, they must have Kenny to help them each time. Have you not smell the coffee yet? St Lucians will never make that mistake by voting these fellows again, so they will never be needed to be called upon again.

Check the SLP slate properly and you will see many candidates who are well qualified to lead St Lucia. When I look at UWP there is none. King is the worse person that ever lead St Lucia. If King is all what we can offer as PM then St Lucia is doomed.

One of the most undiscussed issues of a socialist leaning country is the rank inefficiency of the civil service. it is abundantly clear that the civil service in St. Lucia is inefficient and a drain on tax payer's money.

Whereas King is a thick-skinned individual and a natural leader, Kenny is a thin-skinned whimp and a chronic complainer.

It's the education that is fooling St.Lucians.
Don't forget, George Odlum was educated too, but his Labour Party Administration was a disaster.

King, with a few changes, is much better for St.Lucia than the cry-baby dictator Kenny.

I am sure Jose know incompetence when he sees it.

What is wrong with some of us St Lucians? Which child in St Lucia who do not know King is the worse PM we ever had? Talking about thick skin nonesense..........We do not need any thick skin, mediun skin or thin skin PM, what we need is an educated, intelligent, hard worker who could control his cabinet, can bring progress to us, and take St Lucia forward. Do you see any of these qualities in your King? All King is there for is to try to hold on to politics in St Lucia because that is the only place he could get a good job. Talking about education we are in the 21st century and anybody who has to make a suceessful contribution as a leader MUST be educated, so King will never be suceessful because he is not educated. Prove me wrong by naming what King apart from his personal wealth has he achieved for St Lucia in the past five yrs as PM?

We must remember Kenny is the leader of the opposition and we are paying him $10000 a month to be our cry baby. That is his job to be cry baby.

The UWP on the other hand is paid to govern and to make our lives better. They are the ones being the cry baby, complaining about the world economy, Rochamel, cost over run, Kenny, Kenny, Kenny, now they come with something new Grynberg hoping they can fool St Lucians for their non performance.

To pot with who thinks Kenny is a crybaby, or King has a thick skin, or who should go/stay ....

THE CIVIL SERVICE OF ST LUCIA STINKS!! If you do not show the little pip-squeaks that you know what you want, or that you will not take their nonsense "come back tomorrow" orders - you are dead meat to them.

Too many times, I have gone to government offices where I see a complete LACK OF CUSTOMER CARE SERVICE. Before they greet you, or ask how they can be of "assistance", they have to finish "liming with their co-workers", or finish the joke, or just simply ignore you (by that time you are wondering if to do a dance on the counter for attention). This is pathetic!!

Instead of politicising those deadbeats attitudes, I am in total agreement with Mr Josie - it would be bold and "with an attitude" if we, Joe Public, PUT OUR FOOT DOWN to be treated with respect and professionally!!

Believe me, I am very gung-ho of posting large notices on ALL government offices saying "WANTED: AN EFFICIENT CIVIL SERVICE" ... talk of belling the fat, lazy cat!

From the above comments, clearly most St. Lucians know sweet u-know-what about civics and government.

For most St. Lucians because 'an efficient Civil service' means the same thing as rum and chicken legs, they will demand that now and in the next elections. The best brains are flying the coup. St. Lucia is now idiot country.
