Legalizing or not legalizing is not so much my concern. I am somewhat more obsessed with the issue of homosexuality because it is even more difficult to deal with due to its complexity. We really do not know or pretend not to know what the intricacies are, for instance are all homosexuals born with the trait(that is biological) or are some of them simply adopting this lifestyle.
I tend to think that no man who is 100% will adopt such a lifestyle unless it is for some pecuniary gain.
What can we learn from the Bible in this regard? What happened at Sodom and Gomorrah? Did the 100% healthy men suddenly turned homosexual? If they did their fate can be justified.
What about those who are not lucky to be born 100% men--they speak and walk like women, they are effeminate, they are caught inbetween. If these people don't feel comfortable with women who are we to blame? Did God create them? i don't think any God in his right mind would create such people. Were they born in the image of God?
The issue of God itself needs to be put in perspective. Why is God allowing all these things to happen? even allowing terrorsits to commit hedious acts (to digress a little). Does God know and see all things and conveniently allow them to happen like 9/11 disaster or is it he lacks the power to stop these atrocities? I leave this to the religious elite to debate philosophically.
Seems that this topic(s) has been blown all out of proportion, or the writer has not "got it" as yet.
To decriminalise prostitution: prostitutes will be treated as the human being that they are; they will be be confined to designated areas (e.g. Bois de Boulogne in Paris which is one of the designated areas for prostitutes), - and there they will stay. If they stray, they will be arrested, fined, etc. At the same time, if a prostitute is beaten and/or robbed, he/she should be entitled to police courtesy. If prostitution ever gets to be decriminalised in St Lucia, they will have rights, and also will have to abide by rigid rules and regulations - and certification - to ply their trade. Of course, failure to comply will result in jail time.
The same goes for marijuana - I am sure that this would mean, that marijuana can only be given to, and/or used by people with certain illnesses; e.g. asthma, which is widely touted as one of the illness where marijuana can relieve its symptoms. This can only be done within certain rules and regulations - and of course, certification. It will still be an offense to use it indiscriminately.
To address these two issues without looking at "the other side", to me is a form of ignorance. An unhealthy one at that. So, before pointing fingers to say a blatant "NO", and have a following behind you, just as blind sided is - to me - unjustifiable.
But ... yes, for St Lucians, there will be a problem - very RIGID laws will be needed for these two "decriminalisation" issues. We all know just how laws fall apart in St Lucia, (sigh) which is unfortunate (deeper sigh).
