Part of the reason the grades have slipped so drastically over the last two years at some of the schools may be because the students introduced into the system as a result of USE were only able to write CSEC the last couple of years since USE was introduced in 2006. These students would not have qualified to attend a secondary school if not for USE, they are not given adequate remediation yet they are expected in many cases to write CSEC subjects. A lot of these students have access to a secondary school, but unfortunately not to a secondary education. The grades will continue to slip unless these students receive the help they need. So far, I don't think the Ministry of Education has released a strategy to deal with this year's low grades.

Many decisions that are made in education are not guided by proper information. The factors that influence students performance are multiple and diverse and the basis for everyone having an opinion on the cause or reason for the poor performance. This therefore dictates that the cause of the low peformance be investigated in a systemactic and scientific manner and then design a plan of action that is based on sound information.

This title led me to believe this article was about teachers who are coming to school late.
