Nothing changes in this place..its like a recuring decimal. Daily I see interaction between Visitors and undiserable locals. Guys who frequent our Wellness center etc etc etc. Why is this being allowed to happen. Many many incidents happen daily and go unreported. I like your article.
lets start with one primal area of visitor attractions.. soufriere.. have u ever witnessed cause i have ..homeless ppl harrassing tourist as soon as they get off their catamarans..i mean it doesn t take a genius to realise that visitors to castries instinctively walk to only a handful of streets in town.. they have seen the filth called jeremie street..and the ran down apts called teh CDC with guys smoking and looking menacing at that.. is that what we boast of in our brochures and tv ads..
st lucia is a joke in my opinion when it comes to the nuts and bolts of tourism.. they always REACT never proact..anyway dats the cycle and recycled politicians we have every 5 yrs ..what to do
If they should speak, would almost damn those ears, Which, hearing them, would call their brothers fools. I'll tell thee more of this another time: But fish not, with this melancholy bait, For this fool gudgeon, this opinion.
This is a telling response to what must and should be considered an atrocious crime, but what strikes me as aberrant behavior is the outrage expressed for the murder of this Caucasian-tourist being completely absent when an honorable young Saint Lucian was shot and killed on the streets of Castries this past Carnival day.
Where was Mr. Law & Order Bishop, and the bleeding hearts to pipe the call for the death penalty for the criminals who terrorize the citizens of Lucia?
Of course I get it! The “White Saviour” who was so good to bring you the crumbs of Lazarus(tourist money) was killed but that Black youth, sixteen-year old Constantine of Maynard Hill had nothing of value to offer the empty coffers of this dysfunctional-selective law and order hypocrites.
Need I mention the mass killings by the police when a “truck load” of dead bodies was produced because they “intended” to rob a Rum Shop?
When a Black Mother sought help to save he two young children during the Hurricane Sandy in Staten Island, and the doors were closed in he face allowing the children to die, no one condemned the United States of America; in fact most of us don't have a clue who were the individuals who behaved with such cruelty – Why should the whole Island be stigmatized for the killing of this Caucasian Tourist??
Florida man cites ‘stand your ground’ after killing of black teen amid loud music dispute By Stephen C. Webster Wednesday, November 28, 2012 10:35 EST Print Share on facebookShare on redditShare on diggShare on twitterShare on farkShare on stumbleupon124

A Florida man who allegedly shot and killed an African-American teen on Black Friday during a parking lot argument over loud music is citing the state’s so-called “stand your ground” law as his defense.
Michael David Dunn, 45, claims he was threatened with a shotgun and feared for his life during a Friday night confrontation with 17-year-old Jordan Davis over his car stereo’s volume. Jacksonville police, however, said they did not find any weapons at the scene.
Police say Dunn fired at Davis’s car eight or nine times, according to The Orlando Sentinel, striking Davis twice. Several other teens were also in the car at the time. Dunn reportedly fled the scene and returned home, only to be arrested the following day thanks to tips from witnesses.
“He didn’t think he had harmed anybody and he just thought he had scared them off and he wanted to report it, but he didn’t want to go in a sense, throw himself to the wolves, in a strange city without representation,” Dunn attorney Robert Lemonitis told reporters in a prepared statement.
Davis’s mother, Georgia resident Lucia McBath, told First Coast News that she just couldn’t understand why someone would kill her son over loud music. “That’s no reason to kill anybody,” she said. “Something snapped in that man.”
“Stand your ground” laws, on the books in 32 states thanks to lobbying by conservative groups and gun advocates, say that it is legal to use deadly force without the obligation to retreat first if a person feels their life is in danger. The laws were at the epicenter of a national controversy earlier this year after another unarmed Florida teen, Trayvon Martin, was gunned down.
Martin’s alleged killer, George Zimmerman, has since dropped his “stand your ground” defense but still faces a charge of second-degree murder.

Son of man what you say about desparity between a murder of a black and white man has some merit..however we know about the w guy on the beach I cant say I know the details of the Carnival incident. We are talking about St.Lucia lets not compare what happened here to anything in the US that really serves No purpose. The writer of this good article simply is saying is enough is not being done to secure Visitors and Locals alike. I agree.
The reason you know little or nothing of the killing of the innocent spectator of the Carnival, Mr. Levay Wilson is exactly the point I have raised here. Although The Voice reported the tragedy, there were no Pipe Pipers like Law & Order Bishop calling the Killers to the gallows - so what's the big deal? Just another Black “Native” killed; Black life is cheap. But now a Caucasian is killed by an out-patient of La Toc?? Put all Lucians in Hell – the Country has lost its way and it's no good.
This is the manifestation of that slave-mentality that the so-called Negro has embraced with his inferiority complex brought about by praying to a Caucasian-man-god – who tells them that they are evil-minded, and ugly; bleach your skin and hate yourself. So you have a self hating Negro-slave-priest at 6:49 ready to kill someone for raising the question of the value of Black-Lucian's life.
I just returned from St. Lucia and I was disappointed on many fronts. What's up with all those persons harassing people as they walk through Castries? On at least four occasions we saw vagrants abusing people as they innocently conducted their business. A member of our party was also subject to that behavior. Whoever thought it was a great idea to encourage vagrants to remain in the park by offering meals. The idea should have been to place them in a setting where care is given. There is sufficient grounds to place them there...health and welfare of the public. By the way, have you smelled Castries at 7:30 in the morning (St. Louis/High Streets)areas? It smells of raw feces. I was informed that vagrants use the place as a bathroom. Not too good.
During our trip to Soufriere we saw quite a few panhandlers (beggars), which by the way is a standard for Soufriere. I love home but I think it approaching a new low socially. To call the criminals idiots is big misnomer.Does that mean that in St. Lucia every week is commemorated National Idiots Week? Someone had better put on his thinking cap real fast to protect the island's main income earner. If you think things are bad now, just keep whistling down this merry road.
Finally, protection forces should have been increased years ago (for tourists and citizens), considering the criminal activity occurring. I will tell you one of the everlasting mysteries to me. Why isn't illegal gun ownership backed by a 25+ year sentence. What am I thinking? The crime problem is not severe enough.
@Betta Dazs...How true, how awfully true your observations.
If I may add to your opinions; as soon as the tourists boats berthed in Castries Harbour; what do they see on their way out to dirty, stinking, hazardous Castries: first they are bombarded with the Fisheries Complex with its smelly and garbage filled surroundings (sometimes with dead animals floating right there, not to mention stray dogs. Then the venture into a time bomb called downtown Castries...whereupon they are met with hazardous built sidewalks, opened gutters filled with what look like sewer with the stench strong enough to make one vomit their stomach out, harassment - par excellence, by drug addicts, ad infinitum, faeces scattered in Constitution Park...the stench!!
Indeed, it is more than Simply pitiful. I would go further to say it is completely and thoroughly DISGUSTING.

This Son-of-man idiot is really turning out to be a real sonofabitch.
Why does he not pen his own damn articles and submit it to al-Jazeera or some other Arab newspapers?
Does he really think that his blogging can pay his bills?
He really needs to get a job and quit sitting on his ignorant bigot a**.
