St.Lucia soaps...
Nothing of importance to write about and publish. That is life...looshan style..
Yuo all can argue about the pros and cons of this issue but the bigger matter is simply the point of the competence of Alva Baptiste as a Minister or an Acting PM.
I saw and heard him during the last Budget Debate.
Arrogant, full of himself and looking like a sleek well nurtured distator. This after only months as a Minister of Government.
His self centered importance while pontificating on airlift capacity made you think he was the CEO of American Airlines. Since then our airlift capacity has fallen and unemployment increased. Words and no action is the hallmark of this 'progressive' government.
All these liberal Caribbean politicians are good at is talking, taking and travelling.
Alva's only 'attribute' is that he comes on stage speaking like George Odlum. He had a bit of the facade but none of the substance and this is what St. Lucia is saddled with as the ACTING PRIME MINISTER.
Anyway the other PM has also himself proved to be utterly useless and inept so this one I guess is '6 of of one and half dozen of the other' !

Remember the Brathwaite issue? Labour party had his wife come on stage to discredit Brathwaite. I believe Alva Baptiste should resign over this current issue as he has made stlucia and himself the laughing stock of the caribbean and wider world. I know the labour party is trying to spin this and guys like Earl Bousquet will try to justify a guy not maintaining his family and child but i expect that from earl. Must be a one China Policy. Non-payment of child support is a serious matter for the ordinary citizen but it's even more so for a sitting Minsiter, who is expected to set the example in such matters. The fact that this matter has reached the Courts says that Baptiste is either unwilling or unable to resolve it. The UWP is right on this one. It was simply not the right time for Baptiste to be leading the nation while defending himself in the Courts on such a serious charge.
The UWP is right on this one. I understand the amount in areas is thousand dollars of non-payment of child maintenance. This is a huge amount that tells a sad story of disregard for the vulnerable from a man who is more than a show-off. He is callous and deserves to be imprisoned. He is a dead-beat dad with no moral standing. He has no reason to lead our country where 80% of children are born out of wedlock.Those who defend him are no better!

Or maybe since the child does not warrant financial support maybe he didnt feel the need to support the child emotionally of physically either. a man is just a man, it's his choice! so what! its not like children matter... or are our future!

Every case of nonpayment of child maintenance is a legal matter that should be viewed with a certain degree of seriousness by all.
A "legal matter" before the courts. How convenient. The real issue is the sum of $10,000 in nonpayment of child maintenance. However let us read law:(1) Maintenance of children in a marriage situation and (2) Affiliation Ordinance for those born out of wedlock.
its a given, women can be very vindictive when they make up their minds, but under any circumstance to let the record show that you owe in child support cannot be pardoned. there's sooo much that ALva could have done to prevent such an instance... deposit in her acc. every month (even though she refuses or doesnt use it), buy groceries every week/month and drop it off.. in person. Did you even try? show us some receipts, bank statements you dead beat dad!

Hope he is not one of those men who refuse to maintain because they are no longer getting the women. But what has happened to Flavia Cherry, the so-called passionate advocat for the rights and welfare of women and children? Advocate of convenience...?
If the woman promised to bring him down it is probably because there was an issue between them and Alva fell in the trap by refusing to pay child maintenance. A deadly combination of share arrogance and lots of stupidity!
Why don't you go around Augier and ask the people around about the woman background , and you will be able to write a whole book about her.
