Hot Couture Was Hot For Sure!

Nice work, Stan. Truly grateful for your attempt to inform the Saint Lucian public when others would have preferred otherwise. Your objectivity is commendable.

Unfortunately, Mc Doom has become a martyr for those who cannot speak out against unfairness, exclusion (by way of seeming nepotism) and entrenched exploitation. Those who identify realized this was much bigger than a fashion show. His crusade is ours.

Some valid points stated there Stan - good article.
Sometimes it takes a lot of heat for things to change shape - I am glad that Vincent is speaking out - his way of speaking out is 'hot' and unfortunately, I think a lot of people are losing sight of the very valid questions because all they see is the ro-ro instead.
Let me say, that the design community is not happy with the way they are and have been treated by SLTB especially, but also other agencies - even so far, the new Creative Industries portfolio - and we will be making statements and asking for better dialogue and practices.
Transparency of spending in Jazz should be made mandatory - like you say, the PM has to fess up, why not SLTB?
And the SLTB needs to embrace supporting St. Lucia - the lack of committment to promoting "Lucia" across the spectrum is amazing and imho is just plain wrong for the country!

Only country-bookie drawn ministers want to do as in the days of plantation slavery. Crap they do because for such BOOSHAYS, crap is what they grew up on, and crap is all they know. Bastards!

The unalloyed stupidity of political life on this rock is taking a turn for the worse. Even the newer politicians are as thickheaded like their leaders. Virulent political contagion stalks this land.

We must demand as St. Lucians how much money was paid to MAE WAYNE for the services for that Project. It is our Tax-Payers monies and we have a right to know as a democratic country. We are not living in Cuba, Libya or Syria.

The Tourist Board MUST tell us. We have a right to know. And we must know how it came that MAE WAYNE was given that contract. What was the bidding process. Louis Lewis was never fit to hold that position. And he is really revealing himself as such. We as St. Lucians must now call for the resignations of both Louis Lewis and Lorne Theophilus, the Minister for Tourism.

SHAME ON THE FOLKS AT THE TOURIST BOARD. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME of the highest order.

And you, above, did not grew up on CRAP. Yeah, you grew up as a WASP (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant) would.

Well said Finola. Vincent saw, and took, this event as an opportunity for St Lucians in the fashion industry to shine (fashion designers, fashion accessory designers and fashion models).

For an entity to say that Vincent was "attracting attention to himself" ... where? and how was that being done? He brought attention to the plights of the models, the designers, the performing arts, the film industry, the dancers, etc, etc, and so forth, brought on by people who have no idea on how this industry should operate.

Too long, the cultural mentality of "fashion" in St Lucia has been from a hobby attitude, instead of from a "business" point of view. So far, MY attitude has also changed towards my "clients" - some of whom I do not humour, since they find my prices are too "high" equating my materials, talent and skill to the cheap items sold in the Syrian and Asian outlets.

Personally, I see Vincent as a crusader for the fashion industry, especially in the fashion model INDUSTRY in St Lucia who have long been manipulated and exploited. Even the contracts signed by these individuals between their them and their "contractors" are heavily flawed with clauses they do not understand. Since when does a "fashion agency" host fashion shows ... a model agency is for development of, and renting out, their models.

This event "HOT Couture" has been a wake up call for ALL those involved in St Lucia's creative arts (fashion, film, performance, etc - which should be the backbone of the economy). Especially for artists to be wary of contracts to be signed.

There are small groups of artists around the island are already forming their bandwagons for change: seeking their rights, changing their way of thinking, becoming professionals in their own right.

I sincerely HOPE that the Ministry of Creative Industries is taking notes, and RETHINKING their own modus operandi of how to give us artists the respect we deserve. Speaking of which, my new mantra is "With education comes standards, with standards come respect" - to ALL artists I advise you to take this up as your new mantra.

To the NGO's - take heed!!

For a society which generally is viscerally opposed to anything presented and suspected of having its origin from the pages of a book, I think that elbeem2000 will find few takers.

I prefer the mantra of continuous improvement though. It enforces an outlook for creative and innovative change -- not just to equal your competition, but to excel.

But with the place reeking of embedded mediocrity from leadership to follower in almost all walks of life, and largely clueless about the direction to take going forward, Saint Lucia is stuck in a poverty trap and a developmental rut. We have to hope for the best, but surely preparing for the worst. This is especially so since the face communism has removed its deceitful mask, has bared its face, and is in power.

Ridiculous - period....we need to know how much lack luster pieces of shit like 'genuine' got paid - that's our right.

Louis Louis needs to ride off into the sunset, he is incompetent.

I agree with you blogger right above. Incompetence galore. A complete waste of taxpayers dollars. The clerk at Glace Motors would have done a much better job.

Immaturity and incompetence was on display here. There were no redeeming features in that intervention.

Instead of creating a stamp of authority on the sector and its operations, the response went on to fan the flames of a dispute without addressing the concerns of the public.

Saint Lucia is so full of jackass politics. The response further reinforces the findings of the report that Saint Lucia is idiot country.

With a name like LOL, that basically says it all. Moreover LOL is an exceedingly boorish and arrogant human being, then again he must be covering up his incompetence...lol - no pun intended.
