Thank you Mr. George. What is really required is for a person with the necessary expertise to distill & summarize this very long document into something that can be the subject of informed & meaningful discussion. Maybe we should start with a simple financial summary of the actual sums donated to each constituency (EC$5 million each I understand from Taiwan) and how much of this can now be accounted for as having been actually spent in accordance with the laws of the land.

This would appear to be an excellent task for an investigative journalist who is actually prepared to put aside the time to inform & educate his/her readership of the facts in a way that they can understand & make their own judgements.

Your article is a start but you or your colleagues need to put in much more work if you are genuinely to follow your professional calling.

The Taiwanese Funds Scandal – A Teachable Moment

It is not often that as a nation an issue so critical confronts us that offer, irrespective of political persuasion, a collective opportunity to rally around our government. I am persuaded to believe that Dr. Kenny Anthony and the SLP government are making a serious attempt at restoring integrity and probity to our public life.

This issue should invoke a national outrage that's so unprecedented that it reverberates in every nook and cranny of our country. This shameful episode in our nation’s history offers the Prime Minister a golden opportunity to cement for himself and his young government a legacy of transformative leadership with lasting impact on our body politic.

To those who are contenders to the leadership of the UWP must in the least concede that their party has been dealt a major body blow that will undermine the party’s credibility and any claim to form the government for a long time. King and Chastanet, to the extent that they are untarnished by this national embarrassment, must go on record to repudiate in the strongest possible terms such abhorrent behaviour. I suggest also that they offer a mea culpa to the people and make a public vow or pledge that going forward they will become crusaders for morality in public office.

It would be hard to see how this does not implicate the former Prime Minister. If he says he was not aware that such blatant rape of the country’s finances were taking place under his watch is redounds to flagrant abdication of his duty to the Saint Lucian people and an irreparable blow to his moral authority or competence to lead even a boy scout troop.
As for Chastanet, if he was a co-conspirator to these shenanigans he too should rethink his bid for the leadership of the party and usher in new contenders in the persons of Dr. Rigobert and others of similar ilk within the party.

UWP supporters should spurn any attempt on the part of the villains and their co-conspirators to justify, or spin, or swat at these charges as being a political vendetta.
They need to take ownership of this sordid saga and fully embrace their role as part of the solution.

The SLP supporters should not see this as an opportunity to gloat and be gleeful but they should see it as a teachable moment for the rank and file of the party and it’s leadership. They should entreat their leader to impress upon all members of their party and the government who are in positions of public trust that they will find no comfort in the bosom of the party should they act with such impunity with monies or other state resources that are placed in their charge.

Such a situation threatens our ability to attract grant funds from donor countries that provide then at great cost and personal sacrifice to the taxpayers of the donor countries.

To paraphrase Harper Lee in the seminal novel, To Kill a Mocking Bird – “there are people in any society who are born to do what no one else has the courage to do.” It is my hope that Kenny Anthony is one such person. I pledge my support to him to carry out this mandate to rid our body politic of this pervasive cancer and to continue to restore the good name and faith of our country. His party and all well meaning Saint Lucians should pledge theirs as well. Are you in? Not for party but for country.

does anybody knows what kenny anthony did with the monies he recieved from china, greenberg and others, who is gonna do that audit report?

Nicely said LuciaBoy, let us hope that the UWP goons listen. By the way, there is no evidence that China, Greenberg or others gave money to the SLP administration. There is evidence that Taiwan gave around EC$85 million to the UWP of which only EC$13 million can be proved at this time to have been spent properly.

Where is the missing EC$72 million?

Where is the missing EC$72 million?

Why not ask that other goon who became a multimillionaire after just one term in government?

One term only on a ministerial salary makes you a millionaire in Saint Lucia.

The report is nothing new. Happens with both parties just more $ is involved.
I would say a lot of payments were made directly to contractors which is a known fact.
Nothing will come of this report other than a lot of talk.
This is just a little smoke screen to hide behind with escalating prices and all fall down in SLU.

I agree this is why its more difficult to get governments to give money to St.Lucia. First jobs end up costing 5 times the original price and or the money gets taken.

If today, all of a sudden, Taiwan and Mainland China were to settle their age-old differences, Saint Lucia would get even less than before. We have become a "banana republic". We are very happy to elect tiefing politicians and ex-convicts and then boast that they are doing such a wonderful job. Saint Lucia they say, is idiot country.

Yes indeed, above, idiot country it is. I CURSED THE DAY I LEFT MY ADOPTED HOME TO MOVE BACK TO WHAT I HITHERTO BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN A DECENT PLACE TO LIVE!! ALAS!!!

This place stinks (literally) to high heavens. These so called politicians here would not, could not see the light of governance anywhere else, where is a bit of decency and civility.

...I cannot fathom why any St Lucians would vote and elect anyone who is perceived to be a drug baron, a seller of his patient's medical records, a few completely category 5 morons - butchering the queen's language at every opportunity, a previous PM who is as dunce as it comes about; firstly.

...Then we continue to elect more blockheads. Presently, a PM who has no idea of fiscal responsibilities...spending like a drunken sailor, and surrounded himself with a bunch of "yes-men"...the rest of his cabinet fared no better, but Mr Education Minister and Emma Hippolyte.

UWP + SLP = six of one, half dozen of the other.

Most of these people have a country-bookie mentality. Naïve, abysmally unsophisticated, egregiously stupid, lacking a world view, with no business, management or economic learning, formal or informal.

In addition, the current leaders are backed by absolute shate-shooting morons as radio and TV talk-show hosts, and non-reading anti-intellectual regular callers, some being well-known high-ranking, laid-back party members.

Those forming the latter group especially, show no signs of any comprehension of the turmoil they are creating for those coming up.

As in the boiled-frog story, the water is gradually heating up from warm to boiling point, enough to even cook these idiots, all the while they stubbornly cheer to maintain the status quo, or move to elect another group of morons to follow in the footsteps of their current clueless leaders.

My, my, above. What an analysis, what a most truthful and logical analysis?

I share all the views expressed. My hat's off to you!
