SECURITY BEEF UP

The more we see the effect of the presence of the Taiwanese in St. Lucia and the positive results of establishing diplomatic relations with them, the more we become exposed to the utter selfishness and anti-St. Lucian posturing of Kenny Anthony in his positioning on the Taiwan/China issue.

Dr. Anthony exposed himself as a self centered useless leader incapable of even being an effective Opposition Leader.

Concerned with only his personal standing with the Chinese who were understandably so dissapointed with him for embarassing them with his handling of affairs in St. Lucia , Dr. Anthony pursued a disloyal alter-foreign policy and insulted St. Lucia's Government with his further rudeness to the Taiwanese people and Government.

Contrast the fiscal irresponsibility of Dr. Anthony with the effective utilization of funds by the Government of St. Lucia in conjunction with the Taiwanese.
Contrast the petulant, ineffectiveness of Dr. Anthony with the solid steady demeanor of Ambassador Chou.

Dr. Anthony even wants money sent straight into the Consolidated Fund just as he did before and where the main inefficiencies took place with billions of St. Lucia taxpayers money.

The telling point is this.

Dr. Antnony and his hacks and goons in the upper echelon of the SLP wasted over $150-$200 million a year between 1997 and 2006. In this way they racked up over $1,000,000,000 in debt on the backs of St. Lucians.

Along come the Taiwanese and with good intentions, efficient management, a clear concern to make utilized funds go a long way to achieving ends , spend substantially less but have such tremendeous results to show the people of St. Lucia. The reconfigured mental institution, computers, water systems, a amazing orchid greenhouse set up, banana facilities( that actually work !), an abattoir, walkways and now vehicles for the police. $1.00 spent by the Taiwanes has the same effect as $100 spent by Kenny.

The Taiwanese identify areas of concern and of bottlenecks and improve the quality of life of St. Lucians without the rancour and divisiveness of Dr. Anthony and his supporters.

In 2011 St. Lucians will have a choice. Go back to Dr. Anthony with his destructiveness or stay with the UWP and their friends who make a difference.

And the more "we become exposed" to seeing the sidepiece(s), jump-off(s), jarbals, concubines, of those government ministers - ad nauseum, writing those vehicles off in the middle of the night, or broad day light for that matter.

A most needed and grateful gesture on the part of the Taiwanese...

Only time will tell. St Lucia must overcome King and his men.

Anonymous said...

The King and all his men will be there for a long, long time, after-all he is the King.

Labour has some good candidates including one who I believe can lead our country and that is Pip. I feel he is still trying to play nice guy role and be a good teammate by playing second fiddle to Kenny. Kenny more and more is showing his true colours of being a spoiled baby and a bully and the Labour party will not fully convince St.Lucia that they are ready to lead once again until the members have the balls to throw Kenny off this thrown.

By all indications the SLP is heading to defeat!

I agree with you.

It ain't more police cars we need, it's more prayer. A national day of prayer asking God to intervene.

The quality of the comments in this thread reflects the ineffectiveness of our political leaders on both sides of the political fence to lead our people in the correct direction.

Haven't you all figured it out by now that the problems we are having in the country is poor leadership? How difficult could it possibly be to put effective policies in place and inspire the public to cooperate to win back the country from these criminals?

Kenny Anthony only wants us to argue argue and completely forget about solving real problems.

King only wants to ask Taiwanese for more flash and bling bling. What good are five new vehicles to a police force if the public does not come forward to assist the police with their investigation? What good is a quicker response time if the ensuing investigation just gets shoved under the MASSIVE unsolved pile of crimes in the DPP's office?

We are living in a society where the need for efficiency must be ingrained in our psyche. We must follow wthe rules. They are there for the greater good of society and by extension ourselves.

What happened to the increased visibility of the police force under Broughton? I was really starting to feel the police presence here back then. What has Ausbert Regis learned from the time these Englishmen were here? Why hasn't their work been continued? After all, they are who we inherited our present form of Government from.

St. Lucia problem is inefficiency. And it's time to tie the salaries of top civil servants to the private sector so that we attract the top talent to run the civil service and attract more foreign investment.

Zeigy seems to have been hired by the LPM.

Lucia Girl said...

What's wrong with dat if Zeigy was hired by the LPM? His suggestion make a lot of sense. Are we going to reject good suggestions on crime on the basis that a person is LPM, SLP or UWP?

Comon Saint Lucians grow up!

Zeigy and Lucian Girl are both correct.

What does it matter which party he supports, his short analysis and suggestions are logical, unfortunately his much needed inputs (by the present and subsequent government) will not be adhered, sadly.

Hit them where it hurts, Zeigy, with the correct analysis of today's situation in St Lucia, and remmendations to correct the deficiencies. I am with you 1000%...and you too, Lucian Girl...

We need people like Zeigy, et al

All of you are SLP hacks in disguise.

Time to stop this rubbish about calling out others hacks. The people of St.Lucia will soon have to goto the polls and made their voices heard, and from some of the comments I do so that people are now opening up and realizing that both parties are not capable nor convincing to lead this country and are giving their views straight down the middle. I wish others could open their eyes and start anaylsing and engaging in intellectual debates about the direction the country is going in and the potential candidates that are presenting themselves to right this ship. Instead we have those form both sides of party allegiance that continue to drink the yellow or red kool aide and to formulate irrational opinions to defend their party. So stop accusing people of being hacks and open your eyes and your ears.

To the poster above i have one question. WHAT??

Anonymous said...

The stlucian football team with all their foreign base got 17-0. with labour having all those recession striken foreign base candidates i wonder what the outcome with be.

Anonymous said...

Foreign base local base they are all St Lucians at the end of the day. Why don't the UWP broaden its own horizon. Foreign base local base they can do better than Guy Joseph and Estaphan.

I don't see why people are so obsessed with political parties...... Didn't y'all read?? a couple was abused and robbed for a WEEKEND IN THEIR HOUSE. I don't think crime will be reduced by petty squabbles we really need to start working together and respect the ideas of others.

Anonymous said...

UWP can't handle the crime wave in St.Lucia , therefore they are incapable and incompetent in running this country. If they are not removed by next election i am afraid St.Lucia will belong to the thugs. There are ministers in the party that have links to the crime going on in the country.St.Lucians residing away can't come back home to the once peaceful St.Lucia anymore. We need people who care about the country and less about their self and party.God bless St.Lucia we are in trouble!!! Save us from the wolves in Sheep clothing.

Zeigy said...

You see, that's the problem right there. St. Lucians living away are the ones who should be coming back to deal with the problem. Not that the situation can't be handled by those who chose to stay but when you have a lot of the talent leaving the country it slows the pace of development.

What concession do this government or the previous government have in place to convince us to come back?We need good paying jobs to pay back our student loans, custom concessions for our personal items we will be importing back home.Or better yet cheaper land prices, cause the price of land in St.Lucia now is about the same as in the U.S.and i can go on and on.

Zeigy said...

And St. Lucia has a magic money tree that they get money from to give you concessions.

Your student loan? You can get a better education at a Caribbean University for half the price of a North American University. That's 5 years off paying back a student loan right there.

Customs concessions? So you can import more things into the country? Great, St. Lucia can do with more imports that don't contribute squat to the country's GDP, except to bring it down.

We'd love to give you cheaper land. But since we have to find a way to give you those concessions and find the money to pay for those jobs we figured that selling the land to bring in the money to raise GDP is pretty much the only option left.

At least until those magic money trees start growing.

That is why we choose to say away,i said personal items as in my car, furniture ect, i am not asking for us to import stuff to resell.Besides the customer sevice in St.Lucia sucks and is to slow to get things done down there. Thanks for the advice but no thanks to coming back just yet.Peace!!!

Zeigy said...

Well then, you really have no right to complain or comment on the affairs of our country, a situation you are contributing to and pretending like you have done nothing wrong.

Stay away for all I care but just remember the country you now reside in was born on the backs of many people who sacrificed their lives in civil war to unite their country, strengthen it and you are in effect a free loader there now reaping the benefits you had no part in.

Our own countrymen and woman don't make us feel welcome when we come back anyway. From the time you get to customs you are treated like some foreigner in your own country. St.Lucia Customs need to emulate that of the BVI they make you feel like you belong there. Customs in St.Lucia interrogate you like you some illegal alien and the tourist pass with little or no harassment. Then when you get home people in the community feel like you come down to cut style on them. I don’t get it, but yet still you want us to come to this kind of behaviour. I am a proud St.Lucian, I help to promote this country whenever I can and every time I meet people who have never heard of the country. All am saying is there is a lot that the government have to do to get us to come back home. I guess I am asking too much from the country, when they can grant concessions to investors that only bring low paying jobs and taking the money out of the country.

I have yet to meet an expat who has taken the time to reacquaint with their fellow countrymen, and relearn what makes us uniquely St. Lucian.

Their first order of business is to come here and say, "Oh Lucians are ignorant," "Oh I'M FROM EEEN-GLUUUND!" and, "Een Engluuund we would never have this problem!"

If what you say is true about your cold reception at customs then your fellow expats need to change this uppity air about them. Those skills and experiences you gained overseas are not for you to bring here and show off, you need to figure out how to transfer these lessons to the St. Lucian populace.

I personally feel we need to lose the laid back lifestyle we have here because it's hurting our growth and we are losing our high level of personal security to the criminals. We will be overwhelmed in this globalized environment unless we change our attitudes and stop taking rules and regulations as guidelines but as strict codes to be followed. You ingrain that in the St. Lucian psyche then crime will go because St. Lucians will be policing themselves and we wouldn't need so many police on the roads.

Zeigy said...

By the way the British Virgin Islands are heavily dependent on foreign labour so naturally customs would be thrilled to see you there.

Anonymous said...

Thank you for your advice bro it's all good, but don't cast us off so quickly.I am sure there are alot of Lucians away that would love to come back home to help. And i have not forgotten my culture because we celebrate Lucian holidays up here, Creole Day, Independence ect.Not all of us are uptight and try to yank as soon as we go away.
