Thanks Peter for this piece. I wholeheartedly support your idea of placing the monument to Sir John in Micoud. Perhaps in that same vein we might erect fitting monuments to outstanding Saint Lucians in their home communities or in communities where their impact has been greatest. In addition we might emulate Jamaica's example and build a Heroes Park (George V Park might be so renamed). And we consider renaming December 13 or January 19, as National Heroes Day.
We've been neglected over and over in the south so we don't really care. Even our own Neville Cenac betrayed us by switching sides so therefore we don't trust politicians. Perhaps we should get independent too and charge the north for airport use.
Anyways, I think we should build a statue or shrine for St.Lucy on a hill close to Hewanorra International Airport.
St Lucia should focus on Education, Public Safety and Healthcare for its people. What are the benifits of a lifeless Statue, Heroes Park, and all that BS about emulating Jamaica. Read some of the articles the newspaper writers produce and the comments that follow and it shows the evidence of our much needed spike in educating our people.
When I was a youth growing up in St lucia I man use to support man like Josie, Odlum and Pilgrim. I man can still visualize Josie with his mean demeanor figuratively slamming John Compton to the ground and stomping on him right there on the Market Steps behind the Labour Party podium and microphone and here he is in these crucial times wanting a statue erected for his longtime nemesis. Young people of St Lucia this is an example to make you grasp the meaning of what Bob Marley meant when he said, "Do not put your trust in Politicians."
Saint Lucia has no North, South East or West it is so tiny it appears as a dot on the world map and the text next to that dot is way larger than the dot itself. Mr. Josie where will you draw the line between North and South on this dot. We in this little place already have class, politics and religion, dividing us and here you are with a new concept of geography to divide us even more. See what you've started; you have Anonymous saying "Prehaps we should get independent and charge the North for airport use." Josie the entire dot needs intellectual stimulation and judging by your writings which evidently reflect your thoughts you and your brain sure need a double dose of intellectual stimulation.
Remember Josie won the elections representing the Marchand area where he was born. He then deserted Marchand and moved to Rodney Bay. He paid the price for that by losing the next elections. He had no choice but to ran in Vieux Fort, where he had some roots... again he was rejected. I fell that Josie still have contempt for Compton, but instead of coming out openly and say that we don't need a statue costing US$425, he wants in it to be placed in the south!

BS- It is that kind of mentality that divides our country. Start preaching unity.....it is not a Micoud our Castries thing, it is a St. Lucia thing!!
