Peter we do not have sports culture in St.Lucia.We first have build it.Our education is structured in a way that as soon as you out of secondary school sports end. Is there any serious sports program at the Sir Arthur Lewis College? It's all about academics. Also the club structure out there to pick up athletes after secondary school is a joke. Our athletes believe they can be stars overnight and not put the required work. There are no shortcuts to success and those who feel they can reach the top in a few years are kidding themselves. The reality is that it takes 10 to 15 yrs to get to the elite level. Just take a look at Lavern Spencer's career and u wll get the picture. Most of those who fail before her have not remain committed to their sport for that length of time. I have witnessed so many arhletes who give up as soonas they go to college or university with feeble excuses as though sports have van adverse effect on their sturdies. This backward and self defeating perception and other factors is what i believe is the reason for our failures

I have been involved in sports all my adult life and one of the big problems i have is that you always get sponsors to go to these games, but never can get for preparation of teams. Once you fail to prepare you are preparing to fail. Our approach is flawed. The successful athletes on the international scene never got there by thinking of money. They got there by being focus on doing the work required to get to the top with the knowledge that the money will come when they get there. The athletes here wants quick money without doing the work and usually their goals are limited. It is important that coaches know the goals of their athletes because the goal of the athlete can be different to his and thus create a problem. There is a need to dig into the minds of these athletes so we do not waste time with those who's mind set is not to get to the top when it comes to representing the country. I have always said that raw talent is trash to me without the right application and mental approach

While every one has been involve in sports one way or another, Peter Josie was involve in the STABEX FUNDS between 1979 to 1982. this is what you must tell the nation. Peter Josie St. Lucians are afraid of you, because you betrayed them.

How did he betrayed St Lucians? Leaving the sh.t hole called the SLP isn't betrayal. Josie has done more to educate St Lucians than Kenny has or did in the 10 years he was PM.

This idiot had to bring his partisanship in there. For his information the SlP survived after the leadership struggle because of Jose's loyalty to it. Remember he voted against Louisy's budget, but remain with the SLp. Had Josie gone with the Plp there woud not be a Slp to talk about. What pisses me off is that Julian Humte Before 1979 refused to run for labour because of family ties to compton, but he became leader. Then because he challenges Hunte for the leadership Hunte attacks both Lawson and Josie.Blind hack Josie betrayed no party, but was forced out by Hunte while hacks like you sat around and did jackshit. Now moron you should grow up.It is time slp supporters take responsibility for the stupidity of their leaders. Stop following blindly

What I find disturbing is Josie's weekly rantings. Why can he not slither back under the rock he has been under? GO AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very interesting comment made by the editor, exposing what has been the main point of discussion between myself and some other friends who are presently based in North America coaching America's kids and preparing them for a life of success in soccer. We as coaches go about our daily lives investing in qualification courses, of which include modern day coaching strategies and success plans designed to be implemented from as little as three years old. In order to replicate this system, there has to be a certain amount of funding allocated towards that specific goal of making pro soccer athletes. We are fortunate that individual sportsmen some of us who have represented our beloved country in the past have pursued coaching vigorously which at times can be costly. From that standpoint i think we are on the right track towards a remote chance of success. There is also the new age sports management mindset required of those who are in the Ministry of Sports which would empower them with a plan on paper for implementation. It can no longer be "what we used to do when we were playing". That did not work and will never work because those who defeat us (soccer) are still ten steps behind what is required to compete with an optimistic mindset on the world stage, or at least to get past USA and Mexico in the CONCACAF region. Although we are looking at a superpower in that of the USA, all it takes is for us to implement the early years of instruction which they have started. However in the past conferences i have been to, they are still lacking an asset which we still have and that is the freedom our kids have to go play ball wherever there is space to run around. It has been observed that in the islands we have a lot more creativity than the American kid since our parents are not always watching or spying on us. Where we lack obviously, is the occasional CORRECT AND RECOMMENDED INSTRUCTION necessary for our kids to try what they have learnt without restriction. So, to that I say we are still in a position to start something with a more positive outcome. People like myself are willing to repatriate in order to bring joy to our nation specifically in soccer which is the #1 sport in the world, but that will start only if there is a concerted effort on the part of government to allocate funding just as they do for tourism and the rest. It would be a joy to do this for my country as opposed to doing it for our competitors. Otherwise we will never get out of the bottom ranks of soccer in our region.
