Thank god we still have teachers in our country we care about the direction in which this country is going.

I am so thrilled to read this!

I really must agree with the suspended students that there is a double standard being demonstrated here, and as a result (though I believe they erred in their judgment)the students along with the teachers who witnessed the dance and did not stop it, should also be reprimanded. After all, they are they ones in charge of our children and their behavour whilst they are in school, and the principal has to take this into account. However, I do believe that the principle has taken the right steps. We have to curd the youth before they get totally out of hand. The principle may well know that he should also take action against the teachers, but with the teacher's union always siding with them, his hands may be tied. Remember some years ago the male teacher who interfered with the female student. All they did was transfer him to another school, and the matter was ended.

What will the suspensions achieve? Isn't the purpose of school to educate?

Anonymous said...

Suspension will not achieve anything in this case. It will be just giving them more time to be at home and look up those dancehall videos to learn some more of these vulgar moves to do at the next party they go to.

That principal not making any sense. Move with the times kids won't dance the way you use to dance when you were young. Sending them at their home to do more bacchnal?

Anonymous said...

I do believe that this type of dancing is vulgar and of no value to any one. Our youth delight in this sort of sexualised dancing/behaviour and forget that people who behave as such are not representing the culture of this island. When did someone say this actually looked good?

The decay continues. Amazingly some of your comments have answered the questions as to how society has reached this point. When individuals can make comments such as what will the suspensions achieve and the principal must move with the time it gives a clear understanding of where the youths are taking their lead. Sad to say that although we possess the neccessary technology to move forward yet still our culture and ideology is at a stand still

^ Agreed. But the parents never wanted these children. We need to start controlling the population, reduce it to a size that is manageable by the state until we can achieve the economic growth to match a decent standard of living and stop having these children grow up loveless.

To the "anonymous" comments ... a little enlightenment on "student suspensions". Students who are suspended and sent home, are usually given "home work" to accomplish (to keep up with the class), as well as "time to reflect" in the form of composition (essay).

Your assumptions, about the students being on suspension at home doing nothing, are wrong.

And siding with these students just shows your level of integrity. They acted as typical "mindless" teenagers - never thinking of the present, or the after effects for their actions.

Yes, their excuse was valid, but ... "what were they thinking?"

Anonymous said...

If students can keep up with the class by being sent home with homework, then why have schools?

Anonymous said...

IBM, they weren't thinking nothing. That's how young people dance now. It's the norm nothing wrong with it.

Zeigy said...

Listen, stop this foolishness. That is NOT the norm. It is VULGARITY at it's highest. And to encourage it is to strip away the dignity that we as humans developed over the course of evolution to distinguish us from the animals.

Let me show you what happens to a human being who has lost all dignity and a sense of value in our society, watch this video which shows the source of influence on these impressionable young children: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=co4Ui7VWEnA#t=0m26s

Come on, Ziegy. I think every one knows what goes on at passa passa. The kids most likely were just having a wine/ wukk up and grinding too hard. Don't bring what happens at passa passa into the argument. What goes on at passa passa is nastiness at the highest level.

You know I grew up in the 60's and the stuff we did was considered vulgar. Now we are in another century and still we have people telling us how to live our lives. Why can't we learn how to let people live their own lives without having a police state telling us what to do.Is this not a free society or will it be live that movie 1984?

Fooling around, wining, grinding and drinking is a privilege of adults not little teenagers who need to spend most of their formative years getting an education to ensure the future development of the country.

They get caught up in their little puppy love and before you know it their grades are suffering and they have to drop out of school.

Anyway, like I said, this is just a manifestation of inattentive parents, and since the parents don't know any better then you break this cycle by population control.

The most important point here is the fact that the students were in a school setting and better judgement must prevail in their decison making. This is not accepted in a school setting so there is no excuse for their behavior. On the other hand outside in passa passa where this behavior is acceptable then they are free to dance that way. Is that what we must accept in this "modern society"? Poor decion making.

Anonymous said...

Better decision making????? How were they supposed to know that the principal would come down on them? There were even teachers there!

My opinion is that if this was not posted on youtube, nothing would have happened.

The same people who see the dance as Valgarity and obscene, are the same people who see nothing wrong with the valgarity that takes place on the streets at carnival time, sponsored by the government with tax payers money. THE HYPOCRITES.

Preach On Mr.Boldface.

hypocrites i tell you

Zeigy said...

DAMN it. Why must you bring carnival into this? Carnival is for adults.

BOLDFACE said...

Zeigy, Are u saying that VALGARITY AND OBSCENITIES are OK for adults?

Anonymous said...

Way to go Mr Principal!!! We need more principals like you throughout the entire world. Hats off to you on a job well done. All the best and great success for your school. God bless.

BOLDFACE said...

No!!, We dont't need onesided Principals like that who would discipline the students but not the teachers who watched the entire act and never stopped it.

Anonymous said...

Mr.Zeigy aka Professional blogger. Last I checked, Carnival is for both adults and children. If that wasnt the case, there will not be Kiddies Carnival. And even recently, the manner we see the kids girate their waist and all, its clear to see an early sign of things to come.

Zeigy said...

BOLDFACE it's called Adult Entertainment for a reason. Because adults are less impressionable and more likely to react in a more responsible manner when exposed to such scenes unlike these students who think it's okay to hump and girate on school property.

Incredible! said...

Incredible!!!

A videographer filming a murder and encouraging the crime, not intervening, or even soliciting intervention is culpable for that murder. Therefore, the teachers, videographer and fellow students are also culpable in this act.

Children are quick to defer blame to other people-they will not accept fault for their actions and I rather suspect that most of us adults are the ones leading by this example. We want to see what will be done with the teachers before we deal with the students.

However, the blame for this even lies mainly on the backs of the students dancing. There is a time and place for everything and that was not the time and especially not the place for this. The students, make no bones about it, knew that. We knew we ought not to steal. We do not need someone to remind us of that. The students knew that it was not commonplace for this.

Now what would be the alternative measures the principal should have taken? Any ideas?
We want to cry out for everyone to believe that we are good people. If you hire someone, hold a staff party and have to watch that person dance at the party as if he is in his bedroom with his g.f, will you look at that person the same way? We do not want to chastise people for irresponsible behaviour until we ourselves have to deal with their irresponsibility.

I wouldn't put a crime like murder in the same category as dancing.

Many are condemning the students for doing something wrong, but "wrong" in this case is just an opinion.

I think they are calling it wrong because it makes them feel uncomfortable.

Why don't they brand as wrong the example that these teenagers are copying?

Just another case of "Do as I say and not as I do."

BOLDFACE said...

Zeigy,You said Carnival is adult entertainment and whining, grinding and drinking is for adults not teenagers. Well check out the adult carnival bands and tell me if you don't see the teenagers and secondary school children in them. Only the infant and primary school children are in the Kiddies Carnival.

Zeigy said...

Well then, we have a serious problem here because bacchanal is for people old enough to drink.

Bands need to be fined when under-aged revellers are caught in their bands.

These night clubs probably go out of business because they don't make themselves exclusive enough, by the time teenagers make it to 21 you hear them say things like, "Every nightclub I go to is the same thing, nothing new." Huh!? You've been to nightclubs so much and you're only 21?

Our citizens need to be trained in the art of being law abiding. Stop treating rules like a suggestion, take some pride in your country and recognise that the rules are there for your benefit.

We should learn a thing or two from Hilary Herman:
